Video: 9th Inning Rally Falls Just Short
John Belinski replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This loss is on Rocco. Jax has been pitching poorly the past month and should not have pitched in this game. I would think that Rocco's ipad would have told him to not pitch Jax in close game. It appears Rocco is a slow learner and just has no feel for the flow of a game.- 2 replies

Wallner should have never been sent down. He was on base 8 times in a row and then they returned him to the minors. The Twins would have a better record if he had not been send down.

To me the easy answer for 1st base is Julian. We need his bat in the lineup and he has played games there in the minors. With Lewis at 3rd this will give us an infield lineup that can hit. First base is the easiest spot to play in the infield. Just not sure why Rocco has not played him there. That would give the Twins a very good infield.

The Twins lost a game they should have won and it was 100% because of Rocco. When he put Jax in the game I knew we were in trouble. I do not understand why Rocco put Jax in due to his pitching problems the past several games. Either Jax has changed how he pitches or batters have figured out what pitches to look for. Jax is in a slump, but Rocco still puts him in and we lose the game. All Rocco had to do is look at his computer and see that Jax has been pitching poorly. Every fan knew Jax was pitching poorly, but not Rocco. If Rocco can not handle pitchers then Twins need to replace him or pitching coach.

It appears the Twins have some good young players who will help them in the coming years so the future looks bright for many years to come. I am still not a fan of how Rocco manages players, but think he will be around for a long time based on the Twins history with past managers. I think we can only hope that he becomes a better manager. Twins need to reduce strikeout and hit into fewer double plays.

I think the last 2 games show that the Twins could win a playoff series with good pitching. Those two games were the best 2 games of the season for the Twins since they were against a good team. With Lewis and Alex coming back the Twins will be a better team. I am surprised that Rocco has not tried Julian at first base since we need his bat in the lineup and he has played some games there in the minors. It appears Lewis will come back soon so the only spot we have for Julian is at first base. That would give the Twins a good infield. I think first base is the easiest infield spot to play and would be a good spot for Julian if Alex is not ready to play.

The Joey Gallo Experiment Should Be Over
John Belinski replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am surprised the Twins have not played Julian at first base. I think he has played some games there in the minors. It seems like first base is the easiest infield spot to play. When Lewis comes back we could keep Julian's bat in the lineup if he were playing first base. If a catcher can play first base then another infielder like Julian should be able to play there. We need His bat in the lineup everyday and first base seems like a good spot for him. since we have a good second baseman. When Lewis comes back we would have a good infield with Julian at first base.- 58 replies

I wanted the FO to add a right handed hitter and RP, but think after Cleveland traded away their good players our FO decided we would be in the playoffs. I think if Cleveland doesn't trade those players our FO makes some trades. With good pitching and some players returning the Twins have a chance to win a playoff series. We still have too many lefthanded outfielders so trading one of them would have helped the Twins win. When the IL players return the Twins will have to remove at least 2 players that are currently playing and except for Gallo it will mean removing a player that has helped the Twins win.

The past few games Jax has been throwing some pitches that are being hit hard. Yesterday he got 2 strikes on high pitches and then throws pitch right over the plate that the batter hits when another high pitch may have been strike 3. Have not been a big fan of Pagan, but he has shown he can get batters out with a very good fastball. If we need a strikeout then Pagan seems like a better choice.

Front office surprised me and other Twin's fans when they did not make a trade to help the Twins. The Twins have several players in the minors that they could have traded to get help. If they are not going to call up these players then trade them to get help. How many left handed outfielders do the Twins need? It just does not seem to make sense that the FO did not do anything to help the Twins become a better team. The fans are disappointed and maybe the players are also disappointed that the FO did nothing. I guess the fans have to accept that the Twins will keep Rocco and the FO for many years to come which will mean the Twins will be OK, but never a really good team.

Varland Lifts Saints Past Bats 5-0
John Belinski commented on Brandon Peddycoart's blog entry in Brandon Peddycoart
I wasn't surprised that Varland pitched a good game and think he will help Twins in the future, but I was surprised that Moran pitched 2 innings without giving up a run. -
Dallas Keuchel Is Who He Is
John Belinski replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A pitcher that doesn't walk batters and gets a lot of ground ball outs will win a lot of games no matter how many strikeouts he gets. I think the Twins had lost too many games when a walked batter scores the winning run. Often the walked batter has a very low batting average. When a batter has one chance in 5 of getting a hit why would any good pitcher walk him? Is the catcher calling for a pitch on the edge of the strike zone or is the pitcher just missing the strike zone? With a 3 ball count to a low average batter why doesn't the pitcher throw a pitch in the strike zone even if the pitch has to be right down the middle? Game after game the Twins pitchers walk batters with low batting averages and that has to stop. Is the manager calling the pitches? -
When I saw his picture it did not look like him. I would have never guessed it was a picture of Gene.

Matt Wallner Has Changed the Twins Plans
John Belinski replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
After watching Wallner play in the outfield for the past few weeks he is doing a better job than I expected since there have been several articles saying he wasn't a good outfielder. He made a very good catch a few days ago of a flyball that I didn't think he would get to. -
Some of the young players are helping the Twins win. The team seems to be a better team without Buxton. Hope he will get better and come back a better player, but without him the Twins can have a DH that can help them win. Twins waited way too long to bring up Wallner and would probably have a better record if he hadn't been sent down after being on base 8 times in a row before being sent down. It just didn't make sense to send him down since the Twins needed hitters.

Front Office Flops As They Fail Twins Bullpen
John Belinski replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It doesn't appear Moran should be on the team. When a RP walks 3 batters in 9th inning they do not belong on the team. Bring up another RP that will help Twins. The only game that Moran can pitch in is if the Twins are 10 runs ahead so why waste a spot on him. I could understand walking one batter or maybe even two batters, but not three batters in one inning.- 20 replies

It was one of those games where one swing of the bat would decide who would win the game and the Twins got that one swing. Still concerned how Duran is closing games since all winning teams need a good closer, but he just seems to have a hard time closing games lately. A closer can not walk a batter every game.

There are at least 7 or maybe 8 that need to improve. It is hard to believe the Twins are in first place with so many batters hitting below .250. One night we had 8 batters hitting below .250 and the other team had only 2 batters below .250.

Twins Claim Outfielder Jordan Luplow
John Belinski replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why add a nobody with a .199 batting average. Bring up a rookie and give him a chance. Our front office just seems to have no clue about players. The rookie could not do much worse than .199 batting average. Just a few days ago our front office said we didn't need to add a player and now we add a .199 batter. What a great front office the Twins have. I guess the good news is that Buxton is going on IL. Hope he can come back a better player. -
Confessions of a confused Twins fan
John Belinski commented on Doc Munson's blog entry in Fantasy GM
I am confused too as to why the front office did nothing. One of our better young players goes on IL just before the trade deadline and our front office does nothing. It appears their plan is to "hope" our current players will play better in the second half. I would have expected a better plan than to "hope" players do better. Almost any right handed hitter would be better than Gallo and it would seem there are better RP than several the Twins currently have. I can only "hope" the front office is right and Twins players do better, but so far have not seen any change nor do I expect much of a change. The good news is that the Twins will probably win our division and with good pitching have a chance to win a playoff game or two. With a better front office we would have a better chance. -
The Breakout Isn't Coming for Carlos Correa
John Belinski replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins fans can only hope that Correa will not continue to get worse. Maybe he peaked several years ago and the Twins will have to play him for many more years. After two teams did not sign him the Twins should have been concerned, but they went ahead with a big long term contract that may hurt them for many many years. Now the Twins have two big long term contracts for players who are just not doing as well as expected. It appears the front office just did not do their homework before signing two players to big long term contracts.
