Giants 4, Twins 3: As Bad As It Gets?
John Belinski replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Any one who expects help from the Twins front office is going to be disappointed since they decided to extend Rocco. Is the front office really that bad at looking at Rocco's record. Rocco has no clue on how to handle pitchers, had losing record in 1 run games last year and had losing record in extra inning games. The Twins will be lucky to have a winning record by the end of May and the front office decides to extend Rocco. No other team is going to hire Rocco away from the Twins unless some high school team needs a coach. -
Did these 10 players struggle the most during their Twins career?
John Belinski commented on jlarson's blog entry in batting 9th and playing right field
One of these worst players hit .266 and one hit .274 so they would be stars on this weak hitting team. -
It appears the Twins may not have a winning record by the end of May. Last year it took 4 months to drop below .500, but it may happen in May this year. Just do not understand why anyone thinks Rocco is a good manager? There must be better choices out there, but we may be stuck with him for many losing years to come. He has no clue on how to handle pitchers, had losing record last year in one run games and losing record in extra inning games. Why is he still the manager of the Twins?

After looking at last years records with bases loaded it appears the trade of Gio has really hurt the Twins production. The Twins gave away a player that could be their starting 3rd baseman with a batting average of .302. One has to wonder how many more games the Twins would have won if that trade had not been made. After the Twins traded away their best hitter for pitching help the trade of Gio should have never been made.

One number that shows the Twins have problems with men on base is hitting into too many double plays. In Sunday's game LA hit into 0 double plays and Twins hit into 3 double plays. We will not be a winning team until we solve that problem.

Another good game by the Twins. We need more complete games by the Twins if they want to be in the playoff.

MLB Storyline Creators Reject 2023 Twins Season As Too Unrealistic
John Belinski commented on RandBalls Stu's article in Just For Fun
It seems surprising that the new pitch clock seems to have helped the pitchers more than the batters since it appears batting averages are down. Making the pitcher work faster would have seemed to help the batter. -
The Twins are 0-7 with bases loaded and not outs. They must be the worst team in baseball with bases loaded. Maybe Rocco should try something different after going 0-7. With bases loaded the next 2 batters had only 1 pitch in the strike zone. Either Rocco or hitting coach have to go since the Twins keep swinging at bad pitches. The other teams manager know this and just has his pitcher throw pitches out of strike zone. Gallo had one at bat where the pitcher threw 8 pitches out of strike zone and he struck out. Maybe the Twins will have a winning season, but only if they stop swinging at bad pitches.

It’s Time to Jump on the Yunior Severino Hype Train
John Belinski replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
He needs to reduce his K's to become a complete player. He is still young so he may improve as a hitter. -
I was shocked when Rocco called that play. I have always assumed that Rocco did not know what a bunt was so was really surprised when he called that play. I guess Rocco saw how many times the Twins had runners on third and did not score so decided to try the bunt. Maybe we will see more bunts to move runners over. What a game! The second surprise was when Jax came in and did not allow a run. One of the best games of the year for the Twins.

I don't expect Rocco to rip his pitcher, but to say he pitched well makes no sense. Was the catcher calling for strikes? Why didn't the catcher call for a fast ball if Lopez was having a hard time throwing other pitches?

There is just no excuse for walking in the winning run and when the batter is in a 0-30 slump it just makes no sense. Either the manager or catcher or pitcher was the reason we lost this game.

It is really disappointing to lose a game like this when Twins have bases loaded and no outs, but do not score a run. Then Rocco makes another great statement when he said J Lopez pitched a good game, but any pitcher that walks in the winning run did not pitch good. There is just NO excuse for walking in the winning run plus the batter hasn't had a hit for 2 or 3 weeks. Just throw a fastball down the middle. Who calls the pitches?

Is Alex Kirilloff the Key to Unlocking the Offense?
John Belinski commented on stringer bell's blog entry in stringer bell's Blog
I agree that AK seems to have a positive effect on Twins batters. He is hitting really well and it seems the whole team has been hitting better since he joined the team. Maybe the other players were just due to hit better, but adding AK has seemed to really help the Twins hit better and score more runs. AK will not continue to hit .400, but he has given the Twins some big hits in the few games he has played since he has joined the team.- 15 comments

The Twins Lineup Presents a Silver Lining
John Belinski replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It appears that calling up AK has really helped the whole team hit better. Ak is hitting .400+ and for some reason the whole team seems to be hitting better since he joined the team. The Twins were the worst hitting team in baseball before AK joined the team. Sometimes it just takes one hitter to hit well and others seem to follow. Last week I was concerned about the Twins being a winning team, but now think they are headed in the right direction as a team.- 22 replies

It's Louie's Time to Shine
John Belinski replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He seems to have good control which is really important since walks always seem to score runs. Some of the Twins RP's issue too many walks which really should never happen. Most batters get on base about 2 or 3 times per 10 at bat, but a walk is a 100% base runner. -

Time To Shake Up that Underperforming Lineup?
John Belinski commented on LA Vikes Fan's blog entry in LA Vikes Fan
It certainly appears we should have a lineup change, but with Rocco as manager that will probably not happen. When the manager has his number 3 batter batting under .200 most every other manager would make a change, but not Rocco. It appears he just refuses to make changes so i guess his way is the only way, but we know what happened last year and it may happen again. I really think the Twins have the talent to be a winning team, but they need better leadership. When I hear the manager say we are hitting the ball hard, but only get 4 hits I wonder what game he is talking about. When I hear the manager say his pitcher is throwing well and the pitcher gives up 4 hits in a inning I wonder what game he is watching. -
I think we all know the Twins can't win every game, but when we have a number 3 hitter hitting below .200 we will not be a winning team. I looked at all the number 3 hitters in games last night and the Twins had the worst number 3 hitter plus it wasn't even close. Correa hit into another big double play last night and has hit into several double plays when a hit was needed. What other manager in baseball would have a number 3 hitter batting less than .200. I can answer that question NO other manager. It appears the whole team is in a batting slump, but some players are hitting .250 or better so why are we having a player batting in the important number 3 spot with a average below .200? It appears Rocco will not make changes that will help the Twins win. He seems to be so set with his way even if it is not working and is not willing to make changes. Without changes the Twins will be lucky to have a winning record when the season ends and will finish just like last year. It is really disappointing to watch the Twins play when they have the talent to be a winning team. I know the Twins will not make a change, but really think a management change would help the Twins win more games.

Carlos Correa Doesn’t Deserve Boos at Home
John Belinski replied to Melissa Berman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think everyone can agree that Correa is just not hitting as well as everyone expected. It is hard to cheer for a player that is performing poorly. Cheering for him would seem to mean we approve of his low batting average. I can only hope this will help him play better. Some fans are concerned that this could be a sign of things to come and are booing the signing of Correa to long term contract. -
This was an important win for the Twins. They played a complete game and got some key hits. It appears our pitching is above average and we just need to hit better. It seems the hitters did not swing at as many bad pitches as they have done in past games. I think that is the key for the Twins batters. Hitters have to know a walk is better than a hit. With the low batting average the Twins have they get on base about 2 of 10 at bats, but a walk is 100% on base average. More walks and fewer strikeouts will make the Twins a winning team.

Twins Forced Into Glimpse of Future Rotation

Would the Twins Make a Shakeup at Hitting Coach?
John Belinski replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Twins batters keep swinging at pitches well out of the strike zone they will get fewer good pitches to hit. I am sure every team now knows that the Twins hitters are swinging at pitches well out of strike zone so they will have their pitchers throw fewer strikes. I think we have already seen that happen in the past few games where below average pitchers have not allowed many hits since the Twins batters were swinging at pitches they could not hit. The Twins are in for a long low scoring season if their hitters do not stop swinging at pitches out of the strike zone. Something has to change or the Twins will not be a winning team. Even good starting pitchers need 3 or 4 runs to win their games. I just do not think the Twins will make any changes and we will end up with a losing season just like last year. -
It appears that Helman could help the Twins. We need players that can hit and he is having another good year with a good average and power. I think he can play the outfield. Without better hitters the Twins will have a hard time winning games. Good pitching is important, but hitters still need to score 3 or 4 runs per game for the Twins to be a winning team. Let's bring Helman up and see if he can help the Twins.
