What is the value of Nick Gordon? Hitting about .100 so gets one hit every 10 at bats. Hard to understand that the Twins don't have some young players that could do better since they could not do any worse. With a limited bench the Twins just can not afford a bench player that can not hit.

What a wasted pitching effort from the starting pitcher. Having Nick Gordon pitch hit is a joke. He is a wasted at bat. Three swings and he is done. Not having Lopez pitch the 8th inning ( 0 runs allowed in 2023) and then the closer pitch the 9th inning probably cost the Twins a win, but what can we expect from a manager that has no clue on how to handle pitchers. Twins continue to hit into double plays (Twins hit into 3 and Washington 0) and make mistakes in the field. Hopefully one day Rocco will go away and the Twins can hire a real manager and not a trainee manager who seems to be a slow learner.

Michael A Taylor for MVP?
John Belinski replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Taylor is the Twins MVP then the Twins are really in trouble. Talk about Gordon getting more playing time really shows how bad the Twins are since he isn't even hitting .100. Buxton and Correa have really been a disappointment this year. Time after time we see players getting big contracts and then not producing so hope they start earning their big paychecks or the Twins are not going to be in the playoffs again this year. -
Putting Gordon at DH would be a bad joke. The last time I looked he wasn't even batting .100, but with Rocco as manager anything is possible.

I keep reading about some of the pitchers that could help the Twins and then see how Pagan is pitching today so wonder why he is still on the team. In his first inning today he gave up 6 runs. For some reason Rocco thinks that Pagan belongs on the team. Pagan has been one of the worst pitchers on the team for the past 2 years, but that goes to show that Rocco has no clue about handling pitchers. After reading about the 2023 Twins starting pitchers being much better this year I expected better starting pitching, but it appears that 2 of the projected starters may not help much due to their bad outings so far.

Gordon just looks lost at the plate. He can play several places, but he has to start getting some hits.

The 2 hitters with the biggest contracts are just not getting many hits. I am concerned about Correa ever being an above average hitter. Last year he started slow and then started hitting so can hope he will start hitting.

Losing this game has to go to Rocco. Closer had 19 pitches and he took him out and Twins lose game they should have won. The Twins have talent to be a winning team, but until they get a real manager they will never win in post season or get there. Rocco just doesn't have a clue on how to handle pitchers.

Preview: Minnesota Twins v. Boston Red Sox
John Belinski replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It is sad to watch the Twins lose a game they should have won. I keep wondering how good the Twins would be with a real manager and not their trainee manager. Good managers have winning records on extra inning games and Rocco has always had a losing record in those games. Last night his closer threw only 19 pitches in the 9th inning, but instead of having him come back in the 10th and win the game Rocco decides to go with another pitcher who loses the game. In past years Rocco has shown he has no clue on how to handle pitchers and he still doesn't. With Rocco as manager the Twins will be just good enough so he will not be replaced, but will never be as good as they could be with a real manager.- 16 replies

The Twins Found a Diamond in the Rough
John Belinski replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gordon has been a big disappointment so far this year as it appears he just cannot hit. I was really surprised when Rocco had him pitch hit this week. That just did not seem to make sense since Gordon was batting about .100 so he had 1 chance in 10 to get a hit.- 18 replies

I think Kepler either has to start hitting or he has to be replaced. He had a poor year last year and is off to a slow start this year before the injury. All teams need good hitting from their outfielders and over the years the Twins have had a lot of good hitting outfielders. For the Twins to have a winning record they need outfielders who can hit. Things really seemed to have changed for the Twins who once had too many good hitting outfielders and now have no outfielders who can hit.

The Twins Nailed Lineup Flexibility
John Belinski replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
it is really hard to understand why the Twins have 5 starters out hurt which is over half of the team starters.. Baseball is not a contact sport like football so why so many injuries? It just seems like something is wrong to have this many starting players hurt. I think the only spot they have been injury free is catcher and that seems like the one spot that could have an injury. Other teams do not seem to have this many injured players. It is shocking that after only two weeks over half the starting lineup is out hurt.- 34 replies

I was shocked when Rocco had a player bunt over a runner, maybe he does know what a bunt is. Since it worked so well maybe he will try it again. Rocco had a player bunt over a runner and the Twins win a 1 run game so maybe there is hope for Rocco.

With Rocco as manager the Twins will be lucky to be a .500 team. Seems like a nice person, but a poor manager. Good managers have winning records in 1 run and extra inning games, but Rocco has losing record in both. He refuses to bunt the winning run over and then Twins hit into double plays. I am concerned he will be the Twin's manager for a long time so Twin's fans will just have to be happy with a .500 team. It is a weak division so maybe the Twins have a chance to do better even with Rocco as manager. Some say the Twins have one of the best 5 starting pitchers in baseball, but they still have to score some runs and Rocco's record in close games is one of the worst in baseball.

Saints Bullpen Shapes Up to Help Twins

Twins Fantasy Fix (4/9): Polanco on the Horizon
John Belinski replied to Mike Rose's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Correa didn't hit well the first half of last year when big hits were needed and now is off to a really bad start. It just appears he doesn't hit well under pressure. I am really concerned about his long term value with the Twins. The Twins had several young SS in the minors, but now have Correa for 6 years. I think in future years the Twins will suffer due to Correa's long term contract. I do not know if it was Rocco or management that wanted to sign Correa to long term contract, but think it was a bad move. As a Twins fan I sure hope Correa works out since the Twins need his bat to be a winning team.- 5 replies

Maybe that is why Rocco wanted Correa back this year, but so far Correa has been a complete bust. Numbers will never make Rocco a good manager and it appears Twins fans will have to wait until he is replaced before the Twins become a winning team. Rocco had one of the worst records in baseball in 1 run games and in extra inning games. Good managers always have winning records in these games.

I am more concerned about Kepler's lack of hitting since he is 0-9 and looks lost. In Sunday's game the pitcher threw him 7 pitches out of the strike zone in his last at bat and Kepler swung at 6 of them leading to his strikeout. The Twins cannot afford an outfielder who cannot hit. He had a poor hitting year last year and it doesn't appear he will get better this year. I understand it is very early in the season, but he has looked bad in almost all of his 9 at bats.

Gallo strikes twice, Ryan pitches gem. Twins win series finale 7-4.
John Belinski commented on Devlin Clark's blog entry in Devlin Clark
Kepler looks lost when batting. Twins cannot have a outfielder that cannot hit and he is 0-9. During his last at bat on Sunday the pitcher threw 7 pitches out of the strike zone and he swings at 6 of them. He needs help or he should be replaced. It is early in the season, but the Twins have to be concerned about lack of hitting following his poor performance last year.- 6 comments

VIDEO: Buxton Runs Twins to Victory
John Belinski replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kepler looks like he should not even be on the team. Has not got a hit in 3 games and he is swinging at a lot of pitches out of strike zone. In his last at bat on Sunday the pitcher threw all 7 pitches out of strike zone and he went after 6 of them. A real manager would certainly either not play him or have him take some pitches. It appears Mel has lost this hitting ability. I have been a fan of his, but am giving up on him.- 2 replies

It's Now or Never for Rocco Baldelli
John Belinski commented on SportsGuyDalton's blog entry in SportsGuyDalton's Blog
I agree this should be Rocco's last year if Twins do not have a winning record. He needs to manage pitching staff better, have his batters move runners over to reduce double plays and to score more runs. Game after game last year the Twins would out hit the other team, but score fewer runs. Good managers can be judged by their record in 1 run games and in extra inning games, but Rocco has had losing record in both. If he doesn't improve in this area then he needs to be replaced with a manager with more experience. -
It all depends on how Rocco manages the games. It he doesn't improve how he handles pitchers and if he doesn't have his hitters move runners over and if he doesn't have a winning record in 1 run games then the Twins will not be in the playoffs. If he improves as manager then Twins will be in playoffs and if he doesn't improve then he should be replaced.

Spring Training Winners and Losers
John Belinski commented on SportsGuyDalton's blog entry in SportsGuyDalton's Blog
Rocco has been a loser this Spring. He still does not have his batters move runners over. Several times this Spring the Twins had more hits than the other team, but fewer runs. Spring training would have been a good time to practice moving runners over, but it just did not happen. The Twins are not going to be a good hitting team so they need to move runners over to score runs or they will be a losing team just like last year. Teams like the Twins that hit into so many double plays usually finish with losing records.
