  1. Free agency for a good SP was always extremely unlikely this year. Trading for a nice, young, controlled, inexpensive pitcher was likely the plan. I thought and hoped it would be during the off-season. Now it appears it will be at the trade deadline. There are a few positives to that. You only have to pay half a years salary, no 1st half injury risk, and we may not even have a need if Ryan and Ober progress like we all hope. Barring several impactful injuries, there will likely be no significant talent added before mid summer. We have a very good team.
  2. B- I'm pretty fine with the off-season, and am very optimistic about the season. Would have been an easy A+ if we had traded for a cost controlled front end starting pitcher though.
  3. I can see him washing out with a sub .700 OPS fairly quickly. I can also see him finishing the year with an OPS north of .900. I have absolutely no idea which is more likely. Best of luck Miguel.
  4. No, we can attach a bunch of prospects to dump their salary. Sucks, but sometimes you just have to rip the bandaid off.
  5. Santana might not be his 27 year old self, but he's not a black hole. He'll hit enough to go with his defense to justify a fairly regular spot in the lineup. And if not, there are great backup options in AK, Miranda, even EJ or Brooks Lee. I'm not worried too much about this team. It has a really high floor and room to grow. Trade deadline will possibly be very interesting. O/U for wins 90.5.
  6. Because he is the best defensive 1B on the team by a fair margin. Between Santana off days, DH spot, and some LF possibly, there will be plenty of ABs for AK.
  7. Starter at 1st. I've been reading Kirrillof will get lots of ABs at DH to start. He could also be in the LF mix. Santana has the best 1B glove of the three.
  8. Don't let the door hit your a** on the way out.
  9. Oh come on now. There is NO WAY I would support signing Boras to our team. I mean what position would he even play? On a (slightly) more serious note, I agree with above posters. Only Bellenger if we trade Kep.
  10. If Boras is bad for baseball then baseball is broken. Can't complain when someone is good at their job if they are playing within the legal, moral, and ethical confines of that job. Players deserve to be paid whatever they can bargain for.
  11. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Then as he feels more and more healthy/comfortable we gain more and more lineup flexibility.
  12. I remember Kielty fondly as a pretty decent player on some bad teams. That said the two things that stick in my mind are the time he tripped rounding third during a game I attended, and that I thought his then girlfriend was gorgeous. And of course some nice HRs. Is Kirrilof completely out of the LF picture? Or would he still be considered an option on the level of Larnach? I believe they want to give Santana starts at 1st if he is hitting well, but Santana also has the smaller platoon side. Thoughts?
  13. Is there another BS unwritten rule I don't know about that indicates a player should not avail themselves of the collectively bargained right to salary arbitration? There is zero chance Gordon was traded out of spite or to send a message.
  14. IMHO, he's a regression candidate because he no longer pitches for us. I believe in what our MLB pitching coaches can do for arms. I'm excited for us to bring in or up more arms to develop. Would love us to deal for a cost controlled young guy we can take to the next level.
  15. I don't agree with this take. Development doesn't just magically stop at the MLB level, that is just the point where players can START to get MLB hitters out consistently. They have developed Joe Ryan considerably over his career. They developed Lopez plenty last year. A true pitching pipeline has a strong development process in place at the major league level.
  16. I would not add Bauer. I.want positivisity and good vibes in our clubhouse. Don't F with that. There are plenty, PLENTY of quality pitchers to trade for. It doesn't have to be my fan crush Luzardo. Find someone good and trade some of our prospect equity. There is actually a good case to be made for thinning out our farm system. It's not like we can keep them all.
  17. No, he won't. Jesus Luzardo will. All jokes and wish fulfillment aside, what PL does looks awfully sustainable. There's a good chance he remains at or near the top for years.
  18. Props to the Royaĺs for being very relevant for a while several years ago. That said, full rebuilds are buIIshit, and I will be jealous of the Royals when they are worthy of.carrying our jockstraps again.
  19. If they make the trade for a nice SP I'm hoping for that moves to 95.
  20. So in this case "reevaluatimg" means "another chance to complain." Got it. Bitingly insightful.
  21. Tough call. I would prefer something like Lee, Raya, Farmer and Kep? Sub in Festa somewhere? Might not be enough, but Lee has a ton of value. Hate to move Jenkins or Varland. Lewis non-starter.
  22. FREE LUZARDO! FREE LUZARDO!
  23. I think the RH bat is done. Having another 1B puts Kirrilof in the mix for some outfield innings. Unless Kep goes in a trade I don't believe we will add another OF. I do think we trade for a nice pitcher though.
  24. Everyone is bemoaning a lack of free agents to spend on. But that was never going to happen because free agency is often overpriced and this FO loves value. (I happen to agree). It was always going to be cashing in some of our farm equity to bring in players. What this revenue clarity gives us is the chance to add payroll through that trade. Think Luzardo, etc. Now i bet they feel much more comfortable trading prospects and adding salary. Trade for a nice pitcher, and a RH OF bat. Off-season complete.
