    Costs go WAY up at the deadline though. Wouldn't it make more sense to a anticipate TV revenue and make the move now? It's not like they will get zero for their very desirable broadcast rights.

    Good trade. I think the plan now is to add the following: 1 mid/top rotation starter via trade. 1 nice RH bat, probably an OFer, via trade or FA. Very possibly some margin pieces as well, but if we make those remaining two moves, then I would.be very happy. - Rotation set - Bullpen set - OF set - IF set - Depth set

    One one hand, I don't think we need him, and I'm not sold he would be super effective anyway. On the other hand, just imagine he still has it, plays an awesome center field and rakes. Then he goes 6-12 with 3HR in the ALCS against the Yankees...while they pay his salary for us. There's a thought to warm the heart ❤️

    I honestly thought you were crazy about Edmonds until I looked it up. Edmonds had about 500 less hits but 10 more career WAR (60 to 50). I feel like Torii is awfully close to HOF worthy, much closer than most would evaluate him. But ultimately no, not until the Veterans Committee.

    I proposed the following for Luzardo (Mia) Kep Polo Lee Rodriguez And the overwhelming consensus was huge overpay. Would it be in this case? Feel free to sub in Raya or Festa for either Kep or Polo.

    As I cast my minds eye back through the years he was exactly the one who came to mind as well. I suspect it wasn't really all that bad, just all those blown saves that made his memory hurt 😭😋

    This would be on the far low end of the spectrum that I would like to see, but he checks a lot of boxes for me. - Cost controlled for 3 more years. - talented, but seems like more to unlock. - left handed. I'd guess either Kep or Polo with either Raya or Festa would be about my limit. Might be had for less than that. Not sure about injury concerns, why did he only make a handful of starts last year? I'd likely be in favor.

    All the more reason to cash in on Max and Polo. They are starting to sound like, not just reasonable salaries, but downright bargains. With rookies to replace, their trade equity must be cashed in.

    I mean, are the Dodgers literally printing their own money? Are they just throwing stacks of it into the air and allowing the players to grab whatever they can? If this is actually a reasonable contract, then what does that say about MK and his 10M pricetag? Awfully tempting in trade.

    No question in my mind they were both fantastic. Wasn't trying to knock Julien at all. Just really really high on Luzardo.

    Development doesn't stop in the minors though, right? Isn't teaching Lopez a new pitch developing him? Or don't we get credit for that? When pitchers come here and are better than they were previously I consider that development too.

    Ok, I previously said my only untouchable is WJ, but i'll add Lewis to the list too. I also think Varland has 2nd tier rotation potential.

    You may be right. I may be crazy. But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for. I really don't want to ship Julien in a deal. I am super high in him. I just happen to be WAY high in Luzardo. I want to deal from the farm and/or Polo and/or Kep. This may not be possible, but that's my goal. Push comes to shove though, I guess id ship Julien and Kep. Boy would it hurt, but I am just fixated on JL. 😜

    Man, Arraez out up 5 WAR last year, even with his "defensive limitations". I kinda feel like you're selling him short and using that to make your argument that Luzardo should be had for much less. Julien is an absolute stud and I'm so excited he is part of our team for a long time. But top end starters on team friendly contracts really are worth a lot, and Julien straight up just isn't enough.

    That warms my cold cold heart. And gives me hope that 2024 will be another year lacking postseason success for the big spenders. I'm looking at you Dodgers. 👍😀👍

    That certainly seems to be the consensus, and I appreciate all the reasonable arguments/discussion. I think this actually makes me more excited that we could bring him in at a more reasonable cost.

    I'm willing to accept that I'm wrong if someone gets him for less. But I would also sincerely hope that the front office is able to get the trade done at whatever lesser cost it takes.

    Agreed. I have very little interest in Clevenger as our big add. Luzardo immediately slots in as 1-A. That should be our goal, and I believe it is the goal of the front office. They know how important that dynamic is.

    So does Luzardo? Great pitchers are way harder to find than great hitters.

    Otahni and 700M for him straight up? Seriously though, I get the hype. I believe Lee is going to be a very good MLBer, maybe an all-star. But the only current Twins prospect I consider untouchable right now is Walker Jenkins.

    Yeah, I see the merit of this type of package. I purposefully chose not to add any pitching prospects in order to keep our pitching pipeline moving, but you could definitely go in the other direction. But I don't think your proposals are enough, especially if you are only including 1 or Polo and Kep. You could possibly sub in Festa AND Raya for Rodriguez. Or sub in Raya OR Festa for Polo OR Kep. There's certainly plenty of play in both directions, but I really feel like everyone here is WAY undervaluing Luzardo.
