  1. Rocco gets a ton of credit for this happening, from Correa's account of the negotiation.
  2. Sabermetrics would be more useful in fencing than baseball. But seriously folks, I totally get doing a deep dive under the hood and geeking out on all the data. I used to do it as a kid with Who's Who in Baseball, and later with the Baseball America Prospect Yearbook. As a fan I don't find them interfering in my enjoyment of the game very often if at all. And they seem to provide results for managers and GMs that understand them.
  3. I think the Twins have enough good pitching in the system to roll with it: Balazovic, Canterino, Winder, they are definitely not raw rookies age wise at least: 23,24,25. Dangit give em a chance instead of trading them for a guy who may have had his best years in the rear view mirror. Along with Ryan and Ober, inexperienced pitching staff doesn't mean bad pitching staff.
  4. Correa is, as far as I can tell, only the 4th Carlos ever to play for the Twins. Carlos Gomez of course, Carlos Silva, and if you remember 1994 or 2003-4, Carlos Pulido. The Senators also only had 3, including Camilo Pascual's less successful smaller, older brother Carlos.
  5. Wow, if anything, the Twins have made this fanbase forget about the lockout. Never seen the like in crazy deals. BTW, getting out from under Donaldson's contract is a good move. MIRANDA time!
  6. I've watched Raya and Varland pitch at Cedar Rapids - Petty is in good company. Good article. Nice to have good pitching prospects throughout the system.
  7. I am with you on this. I think about sub-million dollar draft picks, the Bailey Obers and Jose Mirandas of baseball - this isn't the millionaire being depicted in the media vs. the billionaires. Most MiLB, and many MLB players will need to work until senior citizen benefits kick in. Let's be clear who the clueless culprits are.
  8. His athletic build is mentioned: what is it exactly? Size and age would be a good fundamental for these-write ups, along with last season's numbers.
  9. Do we have any evidence, quotes, etc. that indicate Donaldson's (dis)satisfaction with the Twins?
  10. Steve Carlton and Dave Hollins, the latter of whom was dealt for young David Arias, who just made the Hall of Fame. Can't unremember Vance Worley's glasses
  11. The Twins did this last year, a guy who ranks 13th all-time on dWAR per Baseball Reference, and he was criticized heavily for his lack of offensive output. 2.4 dWAR ain't good enough for some at a key defensive position.
  12. Nostalgia is a helluva drug.
  13. I'd call it a tie. Yes, Kirby got the rings, but Rod got the batting titles. They were both best at their position for a long time. But Kirby never had to play for Calvin Griffith. Kirby was the first guy to break the 3 million a year barrier. He was valued by management, and had a better team to play with than Rod. Rod got traded because Griffith wouldn't pay him, and the guy would be an All-Star the next 6 seasons in Anaheim. Pohlads were cheap, but not Calvin Griffith penny-pinching cheap. They went out an got a Blyleven, or a Morris, and put their teams over the hump. Calvin would shed stars once they became too pricey, replace them with our favorite user name, Hosken Bombo Disco, although Disco was really Willie Norwood. Hell, he even dumped Killebrew. Impossible to compare really.
  14. Wasn't Greene also a candidate to do the pitch and hit thing a la Ohtani? Might explain his lofty status.
  15. Wowza the movement on that slider is unreal - that'll be tough to lay off when you're facing upper 90s heat, likewise the changeup.
  16. Looks like an interesting crop. Anderson Nova and Juan Zapata are MLB-ready in the name department.
  17. Perhaps Falvine feel the same way - their inactivity in the free-agent market might be an indicator.
  18. In familial discussions, we also have our own Nick Gordon to consider. Father and brother did well, and doggone Nick has shown signs of promise. That said, I have an entirely different skill set from my Dad and my bothers. Mom's genes enter the conversation at some point.
  19. Brothers of stars always make me think of Ozzie Canseco, or Keith Gretzky. Perhaps Bryan will fare better.
  20. Old, or past prime - Rogers may bounce back, but the other 3 are past their "best by" date. Doesn't mean they might still contribute, but, ahh, you know what I mean. Not pieces to build around.
  21. Classic "Ignore the man behind the curtain" moment. I'm willing to feed the greed once or twice a year, and have the same suspension of disbelief I experience going to the movies. Target Field helps a lot, because it's a really great ballpark.
  22. How would you grade them using the lil kids grading scale of E-Excellent, S-Satisfactory, NI-Needs Improvement?
