  1. The Tigers are winning in the name department so far with Spencer Torkelson and Dillon Dingler.
  2. If you expand it to include the entire ML organization, I'd rank Rocco Baldelli as the coolest. Dude goes to Phish shows after all.
  3. Hoping for bet won with Chacin. It will force me to learn how to spell Jhoulys.
  4. Impact pitching - I wish folks would give Falvey a break on that. The said they would pursue impact pitching. They did. Pursuit of doesn't always equal success.
  5. 2012 for sure - 20+ WAR and counting 2018 is also trending pretty well. We sound like wine snobs
  6. I think auctioning off a World Series ring for charity would really say "I'm sorry."
  7. Which would be the perfect approach with Graterol - he's the age of a college junior starting his career in Elizabethton. Still so much time to stretch that arm out.
  8. Does anybody know what happened to Landon Leach? Did he have Tommy John?
  9. Just keep those grubby Red Sox mitts off of Balazovic!
  10. Probably the first time in sports history a Brusdar was traded for a Kenta. One thing about Maeda that stands out: he doesn't give up a lot of hits. He gave up 6.7/9 innings last season, and his career total is 7.6.
  11. Factor in balance and speed, I'd put the Twins about 12.
  12. Like the baseball card-like summary at the end there. Hope this will be a regular feature of the "getting to know/catching up with" series.
  13. I really like what the Sox have done mixing old and new. Twins-White Sox is a great rivalry when they are both good, which is pretty rare, and I look forward to many years of meaningful games.
  14. Worked for Johan, it can work for Brusdar. Santana spent 4 years, age 21 to 24, working primarily out of the bullpen, while starting more games each year. His innings ramped up from 86 to 158 over that time. Games started from 5 to 18. When he moved over to full time starting at 25, he won the Cy Young. Let him spot start once in a while. May as well be the beneficiary of that arm while he gradually increases his innings.
  15. I like the idea of stripping them of their ill-gotten gains, just like fellow Texan Lance Armstrong lost 7 Tour de France titles. Sure, everybody cheats or tries to game the system, but you got caught!
  16. I can see that expectations have changed here as NOBODY has mentioned or complained about the Twins forfeiting their 3rd rounder in the next draft.
  17. I had a nice spreadsheet of comparative Berrios stats but I deleted it given the doom/gloom of TD. Safe to say he has been an AL top 10 or just about over the last one or two seasons in just about any pitching stat you could want, old school or new school: ERA, K/9, K/BB, WHIP, FIP, he got it. I think he is criminally underrated for a guy just months older than Kohl Stewart, Stephen Gonslaves, Fernando Romero, or Griffin Jax.
  18. The Red Sox estimated luxury tax payment for 2020 is about 10 million. I don't see why they would dump Price for little AND eat salary when thy could just keep him and pay the peanuts that the tax really is.
  19. One thing all free agents have in common is free-will. They sign where they want to, and not always for top dollar. I can't fault Falvine for that. They made offers that weren't accepted.
  20. If they get healthy Bailey, I like the signing. He had TJ in 2015, and surgery to remove bone spurs in the elbow in 2017, and knee inflammation in 2018. BTW, apparently Homer is a nickname after his great-grandfather. His real name is David Bailey.
  21. Reads mod note, discards original message: "What the heck kinda joy juice are you on Ted?" I've always believed that good drafting and development and international signings are the foundation of any winning ball club. Augmented with the key free agent and/or trade, that is the way to keep that window open a long time. It raises the floor. You have to be able to take advantage when NYY and LAA and the big other spenders have down years. Let's just say I share your optimism.
  22. Looking at Porcello's career, he seems to alternate good years with bad years. He's due for a good year in 2020. How about a nice 1 year deal? He will turn 31 this month. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/porceri01.shtml
  23. Darn. Pulling the wool over people's eyes and half-truths are my speciality. (crumples up Twins resume and throws in trash.)
