  1. If there are positions it's good to have a surplus at, SS ranks right up there with CF and C. Trading for other needs gets easier with top prospects at premium positions.
  2. I'd be glad to have him back - if we saw a unicorn, i.e. a healthy Buxton, that alone would be worth the price of admission. Add another unicorn, a healthy Kiriloff, and it could get interesting, with Miranda and Arraez. Grey, Ryan, maybe Mahle, maybe Maeda, Ober, Winder, etc. Lotsa ifs would make this reunion worth while. Lotsa ifs and maybes. Perhaps too many for CC to consider coming back. The Mets are stacked.
  3. I agree with your premise, bolded above. However, when your top prospects are constantly on the DL, it's tough: Lewis, Kiriloff, Larnach, Canterino, along with the star, Buxton. And when others under-perform, tougher still: Balazovic, Martin. I think your strategy is shared by the front office, but what to do when nobody can play because of hurts?
  4. Imagine facing them back to back out of the pen. Righty submariner vs lefty. If I were the Giant manager, I'd make a practice of subbing Tyler for Taylor in the middle of at bats, just to mess with people.
  5. SS is a position where the Twins have good prospect depth. One fluke year of Correa shouldn't make folks think the Twins are big time SS free agent spenders. I think Lewis will be a player. Buy pitching if you must spend. Postscript: The front office got creative with the CC deal, and almost pulled off a division win. Injuries paid cash, and it didn't work out. Did we really want to pay 41 year old Correa 20 some million? We had him for a year, and I'll remain a fan. Class act, good teammate, winner, great ballplayer. It was fun while it lasted.
  6. It's all the more bizarre to me that they got Correa last season. Where were those big wallets when the Twins stepped in and snagged elite shortstop?
  7. Julien might not be a ROY candidate, but he is a ballplayer. Watched him in Cedar Rapids a couple times, and he stood out. I expect him to have a good MLB career.
  8. Correa is like an addictive substance - I've had a whole season and damn I want more! It almost seems like a dream that he was a Twin for a whole year.
  9. Nick, in answer to your question, probably yes. Forever is a long time.
  10. The Twins blew a ton of prospect capital last season and ended up finishing below .500 Not sure this is a wise approach.
  11. Joe Ryan did Joe Ryan stuff as a rookie. More innings pitched than hits allowed: his ratio was ridiculous in the minors, such as 2019 as he ascended from low A to AA. 123 IP vs 73 hits allowed is crazy. Well last year with the Twins he put up 147 IP to 115 hits. For a rookie? More strikeouts that innings pitched: he did this routinely in the minors, all about the same ratio, but again 2019, 123 IP vs 183 Ks. His 2022 numbers were 147 IP and 151 K, not bad for a rookie. All that while going through COVID. BBs to Ks: Ryan doesn't have a problem with control. He had a career high full season total of 47 walks last season, with a career high 147 IP, less than a third of his Ks. His entire number of walks over 3 minor leagues seasons was 53, as opposed to 326 ks, in 225 innings. Next year will be key: will he get scouted out and suffer the sophomore slump, or keep doing Joe Ryan stuff? I like the latter.
  12. Most years any one of these three would have been a shoo in for Twins ROY. Pretty cool to have all three at once. Hopefully they will not be flashes in the pan and actually get better.
  13. Hats off Joe Ryan: loved Nelson Cruz's tenure here, and oh boy what a fine replacement.
  14. Ignoramus B. Lazy here. I've heard of Falvey and Cleveland pitching many times. Without too much effort, what would be examples of that success?
  15. Glad to see Willie Joe back in action. He is a fun guy to watch play baseball.
  16. Mercedes, Rodriguez and Acuna look great. Hitting on some of these guys would be a nice boost.
  17. Saw some Will Holland on my trip to Cedar Rapids in May, and he looked a very athletic ballplayer. He was playing a very good CF. Love to see the bat come to life.
  18. Julien has long been a favorite under the radar prospect of mine. Also Will Holland, and Misael Urbina.
  19. !@#$% this. I feel like I am being trolled here. Correa has been a great add to this team. Superstar for the money? Nope. However, without him I think this was a losing season. Stopgap or long-term, still an amazing move by the front office, to give this injury riddled team a chance of relevance. Remember where the Twins finished in 2021.
  20. Just keep winning series. That mentality can win you something.
  21. After years of being a prospect hoarder, I've slowly turned the page, and am fine with the day's proceedings. Seems like the wheat grows up from nothing: neither Arraez nor Miranda were overhyped as prospects via the rankings, and they have become 2 of the best Twins at 25 and 24. Losing Povich and Hajjar kinda hurts. Encarnacion-Strand and Steer too. We might have lost Viola and Gaetti today, or Serafini and Moses. Whatever.
  22. They drafted a good lefty pitcher in this last draft, as well as some good hitting and fielding infielders. If they keep drafting well, they can keep making this kind of deal.
  23. Here's hoping this Bird in hand will be worth 4 in the bush, bush leagues that is. Addressing your #1 need with no immediate cost, lots to like. I did watch Povich pitch in Cedar Rapids, and he does look like a goodie. Wish him and the others well.
  24. Competent bullpen arms for non top-10 prospects: our pen has cost so much in the win column, just the ability to get through an inning would be welcome, especially with the manager and staff's dependence on relief pitching.
