  1. It's too bad we don't play more doubleheaders, because Cruz always hits a HR in both games! I hope Alcala is OK; and I'm kinda done with Poppen. I wouldn't mind if he is DFA'd and they claim a waiver wire arm to potentially fix. Though I guess it is getting late in the season to be tinkering with guys like that. Maybe Duran/Colina/Chalmers in the pen then.
  2. I'd like to get May back on a reasonable deal, maybe 3/18? Something in that range perhaps. I'd let Odorizzi hit free agency, and only bring him back if his market is non-existent. We already have Berrios-Maeda-Pineda-Dobnak for 2021, and I would prefer to aim higher than Odo (give a big one year deal to Bauer, trade for a starter). I wouldn't underestimate Adrianza's contibutions as a defender. He plays SS really well, and I don't think we have anyone else who can play it even close to Ehire's level. I believe Gordon is considered to be a below average fielder, not sure if he has a future in the MLB. Blankenhorn is more of a 2B/3B guy. I wouldn't pony up a bunch of money for Adrianza since his bat is mediocre at best, but I would be scouring the market for a premium SS/utility guy.
  3. I gotta say I'm getting really tired of Eddie's crap. His consistent boneheaded decisions are costing this team runs and it's getting infuriating. He can't do stuff like this in the playoffs when the stakes are going to be much higher.
  4. I saw Cleveland walked off Josh Hader in the 9th and got what I think were the first two hits he’s given up all season. Impressive!
  5. I remember him being adequate, if a bit below average the past couple years. I'll go check and see what Fangraphs has to say about him. From 2018-19, there were 88 catchers who caught at least 250 innings. Astudillo tied for 49th with 0 DRS (defensive runs saved). Fangraphs' pitching framing metric ranked him 44th at -0.1. Doesn't seem like he's a major liability.
  6. I'm hoping we can get to that point too. We're still at the point where the Terry Ryan-drafted prospects are still making their debuts (guys like Balazovic and Blankenhorn are TR prospects!). In an ideal world we'd have a couple of Kohl Stewart, Tyler Jay, Fernando Romero, Stephen Gonsalves, and Lewis Thorpe in the rotation - but due to that group's failure to contribute, it's left the pipeline dry. Hopefully we can get some of Duran, Cole Sands, Josh Winder, Bailey Ober, Blayne Enlow, Luis Rijo, Matt Canterino, and Dakota Chalmers to come up and contribute. But thanks to the minor leagues being cancelled, it's going to take longer to make that reality come to pass. We'll likely see another offseason with a couple starters signed, possibly on one year deals, but I am hoping they go for an ace in a trade. We just aren't at the point yet where the Falvey/Levine pitching prospects are ready, but the time will come.
  7. It's good to see some life in this team, though this game felt like a freebie since Lopez was starting. We're just 1.5 games back now, and will likely have the tiebreaker over the White Sox since we're 4-2 against them. Not bad, as the Yankees, who have also scuttled lately (lost 7 straight), are 4.5 back on the Rays. I wonder if Kepler and Arraez will hit the IL after they both pulled something while running the bases. Perhaps Blankenhorn and Rooker will be given a shot?
  8. Gordon is still on the COVID list, as I believe he's had it since the start of the second spring training. I believe he's in the midst of recovering from it. I don't think he will play for the Twins this year.
  9. Wade was demoted to get Buxton on the roster.
  10. Well... in 162 game season terms, a 6 game losing streak is the equivalent of a 16 game losing streak. We're now in a position to fight for the 7th or 8th seed... yikes. It's always better to get hot late in the season rather than early!
  11. I had a similar thought over the past week... it seems like the Twins have have been hitting a lot more lazy fly balls than usual. Only Cruz and Sano have been consistently getting the barrel on it.
  12. Can we acquire him in a trade before the deadline? Possibly for a CTBNL (coach to be named later)?
  13. Trading Thorpe? Well, you might get some cash for him after he's DFA'd. I think the most tradeable asset is one of Kiriloff or Larnach.
  14. I am worried about this team, but I'll try not to overreact too much... but this offense needs a kick in the pants. Get Buxton back, Donaldson back, DFA Vargas, and maybe trade for a RH bench bat with a bit of pop. Either that or give one of the OF prospects a shot just to see if they can get this lineup going again. As for the pitching, Thorpe needs to be DFA'd and replaced with a starter who can fill in these bullpen games. Whether that's Duran or a guy on another team, I'm not sure. By the way, what happened to the opener? Why not have Clippard/Wisler start a game, get through the 1-5 hitters, and then have a starter try to go 5/6 innings? I like that idea more than these bullpen games. And if this team really wants to compete for the World Series, they need an ace starter... but it doesn't seem like getting one through a trade this year is possible. And our prospects who could become that aren't getting a full season in... ugh.
  15. Finally, there's confirmation that Gordon wasn't actually on the 60 man pool. I hope he's OK after a long bout with the virus.
  16. I'm still surprised they haven't at least added a veteran starter to the 60 man list, like a Chacin type. The only guys in the pool who have started recently are Duran, Colina, Chalmers, and Thorpe (but he's clearly just a long reliever at this point). I do think Duran will get a chance at some point this year, but they could use an arm who could start instead of doing bullpen games every 5 days.
  17. Not sure I'd want Lewis in the lineup after he hit .649 OPS in AA last year. He likely wouldn't do much better than Adrianza's .180 / 480 OPS or whatever it is. Lewis needs more development time.
  18. The Phillies have acquired Workman in a trade:
  19. Detroit is hitting well? Gardy's crew has dropped 9 straight games and their 2nd best hitter OPS-wise, C. J. Cron, is done for the year. Cleveland and Chicago are real threats, though. No questions there.
  20. ...and Buxton hit the IL again! Quite good timing with this article.
  21. I think one of the problems is the 40 man roster - who do you DFA to get Kirlioff / another pitcher? 28 of the guys are on the team, 3 are hurt, and most of the rest are prospects - you'll need to DFA someone like Poppen, Wade, or Astudillo; or someone on the team like Thorpe, Thielbar, or Vargas.
  22. You are right about Wisler, but Thielbar actually does have an option left... not sure if they can use it (some veteran contracts don't allow the player to be optioned).
  23. That double was almost a HR and it had an expected batting average of .100? That wasn't bad luck, that was Garcia crushing a ball for an extra base hit... and then Rogers immediately lost the next guy and walked him. Only bad luck came on the double-play ball. I'm not giving up on Rogers, but you also didn't mention the game he lost to the Brewers last week when he gave up the 2 run HR to Gyorko. His stuff doesn't look as lethal as it was the first week this year / most of last year. I think it's a really foolish idea to throw him out there the next time we have a 1 run lead in the 9th, have Rogers get some work in the earlier innings to see if he can get his sharpness back.
