  1. Balazovic hasn't thrown an inning above A+ yet, they're not going to start his clock too early. I would fully expect a name here to get added to the AAA rotation in case they're needed.
  2. Well, no, but the team usually doesn't announce a move until several days after it is made. MLB Trade Rumors has cited these sources: I imagine Donaldson's camp would have refuted these reports if they were not true.
  3. I would be open to giving an extension to a prospect who appears to be of the safer variety; a guy who has dominated every level he's played at. On this list, I'd argue only Larnach has been able to do that. Not sure if our FO would be open to this, but I don't think these types of deals are all that important.
  4. Well, well, it looks like we're going to be quite the offensive team again! It seems my theory about the FO being cautious to spend money on starting pitching but was more open to signing hitters is coming true. As it's already been mentioned, this is the 2nd most guaranteed money for a player who is at least 34 years old and the Twins' largest FA signing ever, so it's a bold move, but for the present time, I think he'll be worth it. Most of the risk for the present time will come with the potential for injury (only 496 PAs in 2017 and 219 in 2018). Good move, this certainly salvages the offseason, though they really needed to bring in somebody to challenge Berrios as a true ace. By my calculations this puts the cap at about $137M... right in the $135-$140M range I predicted earlier this offseason. Groovy!
  5. The advantage is that instead of Sano hitting FA in 2022, you get to keep him for something around $12M, which is quite a bargain IMO. Then you get another year of him in 2023 for $14M or you pay him a $3M. Plus you could trade him in 2021-22 and get something nice for him since he's on a team friendly deal. (yeah, I know there's a discussion about not trading the guy, but you could certainly trade him near the end of the deal.)
  6. Alright, that's more like it, only one player going to arbitration court. I can't imagine this could get drawn out very long over just a $375K difference... right?

    We blew that

Arcia was a bust, and many prospects simply flame out. I don't think the Twins did something wrong. Many have pointed out Romero's move to the bullpen as the cause of his lost season, but I firmly believe he would have pitched about the same as a starter. Heck, pitching as a starter in the majors is incredibly difficult, and Romero simply didn't have it this season. They'll need to see if they can fix him in 2020, as it's his last option year.
  8. Hmmmm... this contract seems quite team-friendly. It's hard to say what Sano would have made hitting free agency in 2022, but I imagine he'd get $20M+ a year on a big deal, so I really like this move for the Twins. The Kepler and Polanco extensions were home runs, so let's see if Sano can make this deal look cheap with another strong season.
  9. Looks like the Twins will be going to the arb judges for most of these players... hopefully nothing gets too messy.
  10. Gonsalves' been injured and simply didn't look like he had MLB stuff. We've seen the FO give up on some Terry Ryan prospects pretty quickly if they don't believe in them, and I think Stephen is a prime example of this. Chargois' DFA was always bizarre, but he's pitching over in the east now, so it's not like he ever developed as a prospect. Unlike Gonsalves, he had the stuff, but just didn't have the ability to throw it where he wanted to.
  11. It’s probably good we didn’t trade Kepler last offseason! Some of us were even discussing having Cave start over him... what a difference a year can make!
  12. Yeah... this has been a very disappointing offseason. I do wonder if they'll sign a 1B/3B because that looks like an obvious need at the moment. There's not much outside of Donaldson for 3B, but at 1B, you could pick up Mitch Moreland (.835 OPS in 2019)... and I couldn't find any other appealing options. *sighs*
  13. He just doesn't have the stuff to get MLB hitters out, his fastball barely touched 90 and his breaking balls don't generate enough swings and misses. Add injuries to that, and he's a non-prospect at this point. His minor numbers were always good, but there have been tons of guys who have crushed the minors but don't have what it takes to challenge MLB players, and I think he's one of them. It's a shame, especially since he was Twins Daily's #1 prospect at one point.
  14. Yuck. The FO has played right into the hands of the doubters. They’ve had chance after chance to make impact moves, yet time and again they’re settled for cheap 1 year deals. I can’t defend this barring some moves within the next two months... but I just can’t see that happening now.
  15. I would definitely start him at AAA. He still needs time to work on his arsenal, and upon calling him up, I think it would be smart to make him a primary pitcher, since he likely won't be able to go very deep into games. It would be a big mistake to rush Graterol just because there aren't any other options.
  16. Whoa, I missed that. But I would still like to dig up the other threads about the 2018-2020 lineups, I know we had a lot of other ones. Get this dude an award! Dude saw Arraez at 2B back in 2016.
  17. I would like to go back to the 2015-2017 articles and see what they thought the 2020 lineups would be, and have a good laugh seeing what panned out and what didn't. Unfortunately, searching past topics in this forum is rather difficult.
  18. Well, speaking of Hill, this just came out: Yeah, I'll pass, he's not even going to be healthy to start the year...
  19. I think an extension for Odorizzi is certainly on the table. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more extensions similarly timed to the Kepler/Polanco ones in February last year. If they're not going to spend their money on FAs, might as well spend it on locking up guys like Berrios & Odorizzi.
  20. Not a lot of options left now... they absolutely need to pull off a trade. Maybe get Archer from the Pirates, or try to pry Jon Gray away from the Rockies. As for free agents... um... you hope Alex Wood rebounds, or perhaps you sign Rich Hill since his numbers have been really good when he's been healthy...
  21. Yeah... over on Purple Pain, there's a lot of people calling for Spielman's head for making such a "terrible" signing. I've actually seen people wishing the Vikings FO was not so aggressive and would make cheap signings instead of spending "everything" on Cousins. We've seen it with the Mauer deal too, Minnesota fans will turn on players who are making the big bucks.
  22. That 5.87 ERA was accumulated mostly as a starter, which I don't think he is going forward. I'm willing to bet if he pitches 1 to 2 inning outings, he'll drastically improve.
  23. Clippard had a .855 WHIP, 4.27 K/BB ratio in Cleveland... sign me up! I thought he was a lefty at first, but no, he's another righty. Having a bullpen of Rogers, Romo, Duffey, Clippard, May, Littell, Stashak and others is a strong group to start the year, especially compared to last year. Now let's see if we can land Ryu or Donaldson... or maybe both?
  24. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Twins are willing to go 4 years for Donaldson while the Braves and Dodgers are not...
  25. If they could get Maybin to do what he did for the Yankees last year, heck, I'd take that. He'd make a great backup to Buxton so that Kepler wouldn't have to shift to CF, and you also wouldn't have to worry about Cave's defensive bloopers.
