  1. I highly, highly doubt this happens, but for the sake of this scenario: MLB Berrios Odorizzi Dobnak Thorpe Smeltzer AAA Graterol Poppen Jax Charlie Barnes Alcala (he really should be in bullpen) I fully expect the Twins to add another MLB starter, and we'll likely see a few minor league signings to fill the AAA pitching staff as well.
  2. I wonder if Thorpe might take a step forward in 2020. I'm unsure whether Smeltzer and Dobnak have the stuff to make it in the big leagues, and Thorpe has the best stuff out of the three of them. At this point, I'm holding out hope he can become a solid #4 starter. I certainly wouldn't lock him into that role at the beginning of the year, but I'd like to see if he sticks by the end of the year.
  3. Nice move, though I would like another lefty added to the bullpen. Still a lot of work left to do, but getting Pineda and Romo back is good news to me.
  4. The offense also did very little in the playoff series, and the infield defense was pretty bad. Donaldson would improve both of those, and there's still room to add another starter. It might just have to be through a trade, since the FO doesn't appear to want to overpay a FA right now.
  5. I’ll bet Red Sox fans are accusing management of dumpster diving for Perez and Peraza! I’d rather sign nobody over below replacement level guys.
  6. Tortuga's a fine 3rd catcher, and I actually think he's decent behind the plate. He's got options, so he's the perfect type of guy to rotate to AAA when need be. I think Astudillo will rebound from his mediocre 2019 season. I don't think he'll hit over .300 again, but I think he won't be swinging so recklessly this time around.
  7. The Twins did not lose any prospects in the MLB portion of the rule 5 draft today. They did lose 3B Brian Schales to the Tigers in the AAA portion, however.
  8. From MLB Trade Rumors: Lynn was ranked as the 9th best free agent overall and their 4th best starter, behind Darvish, Arrieta, and Tanaka. MLBT isn't the word of god, obviously, and MLB teams clearly soured on him during the FA period, but no matter how poorly he pitched in hindsight, he was still a high-end FA that offseason.
  9. I’m confident he was considered one of the best FA starters in 2018.
  10. For those interested in Darren Wolfson's updates: He was also on Skor North today, and to summarize what he said , 1) it seems like Bumgarner has no interest in playing in Minnesota and the Twins are unlikely to pay him over $20M a year (he speculated the Twins would need to offer at least a 6 year deal to get him), and 2) he believes Ryu is open to playing for a non-coastal team and the Twins have a lot of interest in him. Personally, I'm hoping they come out with one of Bumgarner, Ryu, or Kuechel, and if not, they need to get one of the top-tier trade targets.
  11. It had seemed like for years, rookie pitchers would come up and just look like garbage, having no idea what they're doing out there. Going from bottom-barrel to above average is a big step in the right direction. Some highlights include Smeltzer's first start against the Brewers, Thorpe standing up to the Yankees for 3 innings in the midseason matchup, and Littell going 30.2 innings in the bullpen giving up just 3 earned runs from June to September.
  12. Solid move. Getting Odorizzi and Pineda back solidify the rotation, but it's still apparent they need a top-end guy. Bumgarner is probably their best shot at that, as I don't see any realistic trade candidates for a guy who's going to slot ahead of Berrios.
  13. I’ll argue it’s mostly a failure to develop pitching prospects into MLB starters. Blowing draft picks on Jay and Stewart and failing to develop guys like Gonsalves and Romero are the key reasons why our rotation is barren. You obviously can’t expect them to all pan out, but the success rate is pretty low for the past few years.
  14. I read Darren Woodson was reporting that the Twins offered Wheeler a 5 year deal, but according to Ken Rosenthal, doesn’t sound like the Twins are a finalist. I would up my offer to Bumgarner at this point. Sounds like Wheeler is going to get more than expected.
  15. I don't think it's out of the question that Arraez could improve his defense at 2B with more experience. He's not going to have great range, but I think his fielding will improve.
  16. I would certainly like to give Gausman a shot. Perhaps Wes could get him to replicate those numbers he pitched with the Reds.
  17. I am really hoping that Duran can develop into a #2 or #3 starter. Pitching prospects are naturally volatile, and the Twins' pitching prospects so rarely develop... getting Duran to turn into something legit would be phenomenal. It'd be a sign that this front office knows what they're doing when it comes to developing prospects. Chalmers as a reliever sounds about right, perhaps he could end up in the big leagues quicker if they focus on that for him. Raley's ceiling is probably as a platoon / 4th OF. Not sure on Blankenhorn and Celestino... Gilberto is too far off for me to say anything at this point, and I think Travis has a chance to break out as a MLB starter, but that's certainly not a given.
  18. Well, yeah, I guess he’s basically Sano in AAA... I’m penciling him in at 1B in AAA, not for the MLB squad. I don’t see room for him in the outfield now or in the future, so he might as well learn to play 1B,
  19. If he’s fully healthy, I want him back. If that thumb injury is still lingering, I’ll pass. He was a key to the offense in the 1st half of the year and would have been a guaranteed tender if he didn’t get hurt. I would start working Rooker at 1B too. His bat is MLB ready, so they should work on getting his defense ready too.
  20. What?! Darvish had a good year last season, look at his WHIP and K numbers! He’s still overly expensive but definitely has trade value at this point.
  21. I wouldn't assume everyone in the bullpen will pitch as well as they did last year... but I do think we have enough right handers, though I'd be fine with a Romo reunion. They should look to add another lefty so that Rogers isn't the only primary lefty in the pen.
  22. Especially with Rooker at AAA and then Larnach and Kiriloff at AA, it seems like something will have to give at some point. That's not even to mention the other 4th OF candidates like Cave and Wade.
  23. Jax is the only surprise name left out, in my opinion. He doesn't have the upside a lot of the other guys on this list have, so I suppose he might make it out unscathed on draft night. Celestino is the only one I'm surprised was added. He's probably not going to be ready until 2022 at earliest and 2022 will be his final option year. He was bad at Cedar Rapids for a good 3-4 months last year. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets DFA'd before making it to the majors. They should be able to sneak Rijo and Javier through the draft and wait until next year to roster them.
  24. I wouldn't be opposed to this plan, though I would like to have more than just the one trade target if we're going to take the cheaper route. Ryu is a legit pitcher when healthy. I don't agree that Littell should head back to the rotation after pitching so well as a reliever, and I don't think Graterol is going to start very many games for the Twins in 2020. Ryu-Berrios-Odorizzi-Boyd would be a pretty darn good starting corps, though. Marwin at 3B full-time is an interesting idea, but I doubt it happens. He did rate well there by the fielding metrics, but it would lead to Adrianza playing a lot more in the field (as the primary utility guy). This would also open up a chance for Nick Gordon to be the second utility guy (like Astudillo/Arraez were last year).
  25. Uh... well, it's a clever concept, but no thanks! This team didn't have the upside to be a world series contender due to the lack of starting pitching, and it looks like this team is going to have the same fate, unless some big mid-season trades happen. Having a rotation of Berrios/Odorizzi/Gibson (cross your fingers he's healthy)/and two minor leaguers is just asking for trouble. The rotation would fall apart if Berrios or Odorizzi got hurt.
