  1. Bakeries are becoming a thing of the past. My analogy came from me skipping third hour regularly my senior year of high school to go the bakery and wolf down three raised glazed.
  2. So when I open up my donut shop I’ll put you down as having a standing order of a dozen raised glazed every morning even if my donuts suck?
  3. Durán has three good pitches so it would be foolish to not use them all. Especially because he gives up more hard hit balls with his fastball. He has to guard against getting predictable which may have come into play with the curve that was hit out. His fastball doesn’t have a ton of movement so he does have to locate it well even with high velocities. I wonder if he could take a couple mph off the splinker so it acted more like a change. Lastly the reduction in velocity could easily be that his mechanics are a little rough from his delayed start.
  4. Obviously we are in the middle of a tough stretch where all the weaknesses in the club and questionable decisions by the FO have reared their ugly head. These things are foremost in most fans mind. However it’s easy (kind of) to see a way out of this. The Twins are 24-23 after some bad injuries and having played their worst ball too often. Their starting pitching has been pretty good most of the time. Most importantly the top three starters are healthy which is really important. The bullpen has struggled but Durán is back which is huge and Stewart will be back in a couple weeks. That will make a big difference as some of the guys who have struggled will be dropped in the pecking order or be coaching Legion ball. I hate to pin so much on one guy but Royce Lewis is going to be a difference maker. He will help the lineup and improve our defense. Again there could be a positive ripple effect as Miranda could get some reps at first or DH wherever we are weakest. DH reps means Jeffers can catch a little more and Vasquez can sit more. This also allows Castro to be used in his best role moving around the diamond giving guys a break. One thing not discussed here is Castro playing a little second base. Julien needs a breather big time and Willi could handle it I think. Lastly Brooks Lee is starting his rehab assignment. While he still needs to prove plenty there is at least a long shot chance that he could help out. And if you really want to be optimistic Buck is kind of healthy and Max looks like second half Max. If this scenario plays out we can still be a 88-90 win club. Of course I could write a post justifying the exact opposite scenario but we will save that one for another day.
  5. Complete agreement. Good fielding ability is not prioritized even in their drafting philosophy. So you get what you get.
  6. I understand your frustration but if Falvine are in charge the next guy will do the exact same thing.
  7. Of the list the only one I really have sympathy for is Castro. He has been asked to play extensively at the two most difficult spots on the field. The other guys really aren’t doing well playing in spot usually on the corners. I also think Martin was mishandled in the minors. He played a million innings at SS when everyone knew he wasn’t going to play there. Now he is trying to be an outfielder.
  8. I respectfully disagree. If the article is accurate then it’s just describing the reality of the situation. In this case I believe it is accurate. I share your skepticism about defensive metrics but even the old eye test tells you that this is not a good defensive club.
  9. This. The FO generates a ton of analytics that says this is the best lineup what the opposing pitcher will do etc. They want Rocco to put that info in play.
  10. And to make matters worse we got to listen to Denard Span babble during this crap. I watched the first 6 innings and the guy went on and on and didn’t say one thing that added to the telecast. Three guys in the booth is always a disaster.
  11. Yea that was a head scratcher for me too. I understand the strategy when facing a lefty that is tough on lefty hitters but this was an opportunity missed in my book.
  12. God I hate the broadcast BS. Ooh Denard called that blah blah blah. You are down 7-3 after this momentous event.
  13. Yep. He has talked substantially and has yet to say anything meaningful. Honestly I wish they would let Provus do the games alone.
  14. Possibly. Their success in this regard was pretty much 2019 if I recall correctly. Regardless their success rate in drafting this type of player hasn’t been good.
  15. I think this is true and also there is much less uncertainty scouting college players. They are older and playing against better players. They also have analytics available for college players while high schoolers are going to have to be scouted the old fashioned way.
  16. I missed this as well. This has the potential to be a problem.
  17. No I’m saying I don’t agree with drafting one dimensional players as often as the Twins do.
  18. There are plenty of mistakes made by the front office but this isn’t one of them. Due to options roster spots etc you sometimes have to decide on guys before you would like to. Combine that with the fact that some guys just don’t become effective players until they are older and this situation will come up. We may well be in the same boat with Larnach and Kiriloff soon. My biggest criticism of this situation is the drafting philosophy behind selecting Rooker. He like Wallner Sabato etc are one trick ponies that offer no defensive value or speed and athleticism. It shows in the big club today: below average defense and no speed or ability to create runs other than the long ball.
  19. I don’t want to pile on Julien as he is only one of many guys that are struggling but he lacks feel and instincts in the field. Playing middle infield needs to be second nature as there are so many little things happening. Everything in the field looks forced with him.
  20. Sure he’s a lottery ticket. My reference is the Twins said they weren’t trading him for prospects. In terms of benefitting this years team they turned him into nothing.
  21. People are missing the point. Payroll cuts dictated that Polo was going to be traded. Fine - get a pitcher but they couldn’t and instead of dealing Julien or some other combination they had to take whatever they could get for Polo which essentially was G Gonzalez after they said he wasn’t going to be dealt for prospects. So the point isn’t that Polo isn’t hitting right now the point is payroll cuts forced them to take a deal that didn’t help them in 2024. That’s the point of the article.
  22. His glove will be a huge help. I think the Twins hitting philosophy is horrible for Buck. He’s always had a longish swing that doesn’t make him quick to the hitting zone and then they are telling him essentially to guess and swing out of your shoes. Hence the pull heavy swings that make him vulnerable to many pitch locations. I would have him lower his hands and let the ball travel a little. A double to right center is an ok thing. He’s my favorite player so I hope he figures it out.
  23. Remember when the NFL had announcerless games. It was just the crowd noise and graphics with relevant info. Would love to hear a baseball broadcast do the same thing. So much of the ambiance of a game is the crowd noise.
  24. I didn’t see the game but it’s too bad SWR had a good game go to waste.
