  1. I’m sure they do. I’m sure they will offer him the max dollars allowed. I’m sure they will make a nice presentation about how great Minnesota is. But guess what: it’s still a fourth place team that is for sale. Seattle has fishing a very strong Japanese culture is 4 hours closer to home and they can give him the same money. Go ahead and hope - I’m with you. But if he doesn’t come here it isn’t some failure on Falvey s part.
  2. The Oakland Athletics of the 70s hated each other and won 3 World Series. One of my favorite Casey Stengel sayings is “the key to managing is to keep the guys that hate you away from the guys who haven’t made up their minds yet”.
  3. I get the concept - starting pitching is the most valuable currency in baseball. However I disagree with the notion that the Twins have a surplus of pitching. Maybe next year at this time but not now. I would trade EmEod for a right handed version of himself. Said player can’t have wacky platoon splits and must be able to catch the ball.
  4. I’m sure the Twins have already made the offer. A few walleyes aren’t going to do it. The Twins are not that attractive of an option right now.
  5. This. That’s why my #1 move would be to trade for a cost controlled right handed hitting outfielder that doesn’t need to be platooned. Preferably one that can catch a batted ball. Let Miranda play first and we now have cut the platoon monkey business way down.
  6. Agreed. Plus I don’t want to use valuable trade assets to acquire a catcher. In this org they are going to be a half time player so keep Jeffers and sign a defensive backup style guy for cheaper.
  7. I love this deal. He’s only 26 and has some actual stuff. Signed to a milb contract means no risk. Would not be surprised if this deal actually works considerably better than the usual Jay Jackson type pickup.
  8. I really like Ober but I would not extend him. You have him at arb salaries until age 32 which is a perfect time to trade him get a prospect and let someone else pay for his decline years.
  9. The answer might be that the WAR calculation isn’t accurate or to break out the numbers by rotation / bullpen. This is from memory but I believe some of the bullpen arms were not good allowing inherented runners to score.
  10. My definition of a lottery ticket is someone from the low minors. He was no more low odds than any prospect not in the elite category. As far as the time has passed it’s not really relevant. It’s not like the time value of money where the talent is worth more in the short run. You cited Caves 553 plate appearances over two years. That’s the very definition of a bench player. He wasn’t worth much but Falvey rolled the dice and got burned.
  11. Former Twins farmhand Luis Gil was named AL Rookie of the Year. He was traded to the Yankees for Jake Cave. While it was a while ago this trade stings. Even though Gil was a lottery ticket conceptually I would never trade a legit pitching prospect for a bench player. My forever image of the Caveman will be him running in and diving for a ball and ending up 6 feet short of the ball.
  12. Plus I believe there are 6-8 other teams that have the same amount as the Twins to offer. Sounds like a long shot but agree the call should be made.
  13. Thanks for the article. I agree with big dog - neither Rosario or Jones were as good as Hisle. The Twins were amazing in the 70s with the bats. Bostock was a pure joy to watch play.
  14. Getting to the show is really hard. I believe the number is 5-7% of all guys who play pro ball make the bigs. And they get weeded out at every level so good numbers at AAA doesn’t mean that much. I always push back against the idea of a “logjam”. Never happens because the can’t miss guys miss all the time. We are hearing it now with our starting pitching depth. I’m not trading anybody until Festa SWR Mathews et al prove they are major league starters.
  15. In my opinion you can easily project a reasonable path for the Twins to win 86-90 games next year. Problematically you can just as easily and reasonably project a 75-79 win season. Their starting pitching should be good and that is always the most important place to start. There is potential in the lineup for the younger guys to take another step forward……or fizzle out. Health will be a big factor for sure. 2025 is going to make or break a bunch of peoples careers.
  16. This sums up my thoughts nicely. A rebuild isn’t truly possible with Correa and Buxton on the books.
  17. This is correct. Last year we had a surplus at second base really the only surplus in the org. Falvey blew that surplus so now we have none unless we are willing to part with top prospects.
  18. Which means he wasn’t one of the better relievers in baseball. And he is certainly not a mainstay. I certainly want him back. I just want to read articles sans hyperbole.
  19. “One of the better relievers in all of baseball” I’ll be damned - here I was watching one of the better relievers in all of baseball and a “mainstay in the pen” and didn’t even know it.
  20. Which would be great if he was a plus fielder somewhere and could run.
  21. I think you are overestimating Kiriloff importance to their first base plans. I mean there had been a reasonable case for non tendering him. Here is a better way to look at this: the Twins need to change this lineup. There are three places this can realistically happen. 1b LF and 2b. I doubt they do anything at second because they do have some options. That leaves 1b and LF. Go out and make two trades that bring in difference makers. Guys that field but can rake and don’t have to be platooned.
  22. It’s one of the problems when you really can’t play a position. Then you have to be a really good hitter to either play 1b or DH or you end up being José Miranda or Ed Julien.
  23. Respectfully, I don’t see any chance of the Marlins trading Luzardo for Vasquez.
