  1. I think we may end up regretting Santanas early error.
  2. Veritable murderers row coming for the top of the ninth.
  3. Honorable mention to Cesar Tovar and Carew.
  4. My top five Harmon Tony Kirby Johan Santana Hrbek
  5. This is what I was wondering as well. Traditional thinking is second would be more difficult and important. However with shifts the third baseman assumes a short stop like position for most lefties. Lee appears to be the better fielder with softer hands and a stronger arm than Royce. He also seems to have the instincts good fielders have. Im not worried about Royce turning the double play - the takeout slide isn’t a thing anymore.
  6. SWR has had several games like this where there is traffic on the bases but he makes pitches to get out of it. His line ends up being 5 or 6 innings pitched with 2 or 3 runs allowed. Maybe he’s lucky or maybe he’s a gamer. At this point Lee appears to be a better fielder than Royce. Nice glove and a strong arm - seems to have the instincts that good fielders have. In todays world of analytics and shifting I don’t know if second or third is the more important defensive position but whatever it is that’s where he should play.
  7. Yea he’s guessing fastball so no chance on any other offering.
  8. SWR deserved better. He really competes out there.
  9. Eddy - start breaking in that first base mitt.
  10. I think it is unfair that one human was given that much athletic ability 😀
  11. Father and son hit for the cycle. That is quite a bit of trivia.
  12. So Ryan gives the hang loose sign after leaving with 4+ runs in six innings. Not a fan of that.
  13. Wasn’t that a balk? He appeared to make a move to first before he went to second on the pickoff. I’m not an expert on all the different balk rules.
  14. Yea our assessments of the defense of those players is widely different so I’m out.
  15. Miranda Julien Kiriloff Larnach Martin in the bigs. Keaschall Doncon Sabato and others in the minors. I think modern baseball places less emphasis on fielding than what I do.
  16. Thanks for the info. The Twins seem to collect good bats with no position.
  17. This is an important point. I believe the number is 6-8% of players that enter pro baseball make the majors. Obviously Jenkins has a better chance than most but for most prospects the likely outcome is they never make it. I confess to snarkiness when posting about prospects. Posters list off 8 guys in AA and wonder what are going to do with all this talent? We have a logjam! Reality is one of those 8 will make it maybe two if we are lucky. I do think age is overrated when it comes to prospects. I believe it was Larry Hisle that didn’t make the bigs until he was 28 and led the AL in RBIs or maybe it was Gary Ward. If they are improving keep running them out there until they aren’t regardless of age. Meanwhile I will keep patiently waiting for the next logjam 😀
