  1. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I just don't agree with the premise that "greed killed the Twins". This team was almost a mathematical lock to make the playoffs as late as mid August. What happened after that will be the subject of continued dissection on this website. The Pohlad's certainly deserve at least some blame. The decision to slash payroll after the good vibes of the previous season was certainly curious. However, I don't see how that extra money would have prevented what happened. I'm not the biggest fan of the Pohlad's. The entire contraction episode still stings. That said, their payroll has generally been league average, even when attendance was not. There are better ownership groups out there, and there are also much worse.
  2. Forgot "synergies" in the business terms that mean nothing.
  3. Maybe having too many coaches is part of the problem. Why do they need assistant hitting coaches? Too many voices can sometimes cause confusion and contradicting advice.
  4. Best Twins pitcher of the night. I wish I was joking.
  5. Good. When the fans stop booing is when we should be worried. It means they no longer care.
  6. I haven't given up on SWR. There's enough there to like.
  7. Why am I watching this? Do I hate myself?
  8. As a point of comparison, the Washington football team used to have a multi-year waiting list for season tickets. It wasn't just a football team, it was a religion. Two decades of the prior ownership group completely alienated the fans. Nothing but greed and overall mediocrity. Now they have to block out the upper deck so they can say they have a sellout. Winning matters.
  9. Too early to say. Although I think everyone is just happy to be rid of the Angelos clan Rubenstein strikes me as a guy who's not afraid to set money on fire just because he can.
  10. People love a winner. I live near Baltimore and before last season Camden Yards was like a tomb. Now it's packed. And similar to the Twins, Baltimore fans are not in love with the owners. As others noted above, this is an organization satisfied with mediocrity. I live and die with the Twins and would visit Target Field a lot more if I could. That said, this current iteration of the team can be completely unwatchable at times. The satisfaction with mediocrity permeates the entire organization. I enjoyed watching the losing teams in the late 90s more than this team. At least they tried to win. The current set of coaches and players seem to show up at the ballpark because it's their job.
  11. There's definitely a lack of players that capture the imagination. Correa or Buxton could be that guy, but they spend so much time on the IR that you can't even tell they're still on the team. Lewis could be that guy, but he'll have to bounce back from a truly brutal second half of the season. Other than that, there's some guys who can occasionally mash the ball when they're not swinging at pitches a foot out of the zone
  12. He botched a grounder early in the game that was generously ruled a hit.
  13. I've been a Twins fan for over several decades. There's been good years and more than a few bad ones. I don't remember a season hurting as much as this one. They finished on a high note last year and things were looking up. Despite the payroll cut, they were decent through the first 2/3 of the season, and I was optimistic they could make a playoff run given the mediocre state of the AL. And then the bottom just completely fell out. Baseball can be a brutal game. I'm concerned it will take the organization years to wipe the stink away.
  14. Even with a healthy Joe Ryan the Twins only have three proven starters. If they move Lopez they'd essentially be raising the white flag before the season even starts (see White Sox). I think this is a very unlikely scenario.
  15. For some of the younger guys it needs to be made clear that they are not guaranteed a spot on the MLB roster when spring training begins.
  16. I will say that when I first saw it come off the bat it had such a strange trajectory that I thought it had bounced off the plate. Then he threw to second. I had no idea what was going on.
  17. The only thing I can think of is maybe he thought it was going to get past Bride and so he wanted be ready to break to 3rd. I don't know......I'm just grasping at straws......it was ugly.
  18. My sympathies to Mr Stohs for drawing the short straw and having to write the postscript for last night's game. While he is a gifted writer, no words can convey just how ugly that loss was.
  19. How does one even go about removing the stink of this season? Firing Rocco won't be enough.
  20. 2 for 17 with runners in scoring position. That has to be approaching some kind of record.
  21. What happened to this team? They were legit playoff contenders for the first three quarters of the season. This isn't even a major league team anymore.
  22. He reminds me a lot of Nick Punto. A solid utility guy and late inning replacement, but not someone who should be in the lineup every day. To be fair, he's only gotten as many at-bats as he had because of injuries and poor performers.
