  1. Santana will probably have other options. I wouldn't be opposed to having Solano as a part time player. Not really interested in the rest of them.
  2. I just saw that. Very sad. Didn't see that coming. He was only 65. One of the great characters of the game and one helluva ballplayer.
  3. Yeah, I thought he would get more. Maybe he's thinking he can showcase himself on a big market playoff team like the Phillies and then get a bigger deal next year.
  4. Speaking of Donovan Solano.....why not sign him to platoon at first? He was ok with the Twins, he put up decent numbers in limited action with the Padres, he's right-handed, he's probably cheap, and he's available.
  5. I don't think it changes their plans, because I don't think he was being shopped before and I don't think he's being shopped now. I don't believe the Twins starting pitching is as deep as some people on this website believe. If they trade Lopez, they could fill some holes, but would be creating another. Matthews, Festa, etc...are still unproven.
  6. I don't really get it. No player is worth that much for that long. Although I guess if you're Steve Cohen and can afford to light money on fire, price doesn't matter.
  7. I heard a rumor that the Twins were willing to do $765 million, but they wanted to defer the payments out through 2124.
  8. I don't know why anyone would buy this stuff on Black Friday. You can probably get all of it on clearance once the team is sold.
  9. I have not seen the documentary and don't intend to. I still remember the Twins -Yankees series and don't need to relive it.
  10. I'm not in favor of trading young pitching for hitting. The Twins will not be paying the insane free agent prices for pitching. Therefore, they need to cling to any young affordable pitching they can. You can never have enough. Some will get hurt or just not make the transition to the big leagues.
  11. It's tongue in cheek, but the point being that there's a lot that goes into operating a major sports franchise. Personally, I'd rather Falvey kept his focus on the baseball side of things.
  12. This seems like a lot for Falvey to take on. Can he oversee the entire baseball side of things and negotiate with beer distributors at the same time?
  13. Plan for six, but assume the reality will be five because of injuries and poor performance. The Twins will be relying heavily on younger pitchers and/or reclamation projects. They need Pablo/Ryan/Ober to take the ball as much as possible. Even with a five man rotation the Twins don't exactly tax their starters. Pablo led the team with 185 innings. Twenty years ago starters often threw over 200 innings (why this has changed over time is another discussion).
  14. Severino surprises me a bit. He had decent numbers at AAA and can play multiple positions. I'm surprised he wasn't claimed.
  15. I would like to see Paddack gone. The problem is they desperately need another starter, and the only type they can afford is a reclamation project like....... Chris Paddack! Can they find someone just as good for cheaper, maybe, but I think it's unlikely.
  16. I've never been a fan of $/WAR calculations. They are usually based on free-agent contracts, which are often inflated based on past performance and result in regret for the signing teams. If Castro were to hit the open market, no one would pay him $20+ million per year. That said, is Castro worth $6.7 million? Hell yes. But what is the opportunity cost to the Twins? Is that money better spent as a down payment on a stop-gap starting pitcher? Is it enough to bring back Carlos Santana? It's a tough call. Maybe the hardest decision Falvey will make this off-season.
  17. Agreed. I think the ghost of Sandy Leon is still fresh on the minds of the front office. Plus Vasquez will be gone after this season.
  18. You're right. The Farmer deal didn't work out. The same things people said about Farmer is what people say about Castro now. Farmer had a 1.7 rWAR in 2023. Castro's was 1.6 this past season, despite having a lot more at bats. I get what you're saying, but money is going to be tight and they have to decide soon. I don't think it makes sense hamstring their off-season because they decide to take Castro through arbitration.
  19. I think Tonkin and Castro are definitely gone, and Krilloff is a maybe. I like Willi Castro, but $6.2 million for a utility man is a luxury the Twins can't afford. Maybe they can trade him, but there are going to be a lot of teams looking to trim payroll. Don't be shocked if he's non-tendered. If they pay Castro the Twins will not have flexibility to do anything this offseason.
  20. I'm sure the Twins would love to have him hold down a rotation spot, but I'm not sure that he can.
  21. Two strikeout prone lefties. I suspect they will keep right field open for Rodriguez and/or Jenkins.
  22. I don't see any way Castro is with this team next year. The Twins already have $90 million on the books even before arbitration guys are added. He is a luxury they simply cannot afford. One name that was not on the list in the article is Larnach. I expect he'll be offered a contract, but I think there's a good chance he's not with the Twins next year. I don't see how having both him and Wallner in the same lineup makes any sense .
