  1. Not only someone, but more likely more than just one and high value. There is no veteran player on the Twins, other than Gray, who is tradable and could return us, let’s say, a controllable starting calibre RH CFer. So to get that, we’d be moving multiple very valuable prospects. The ChiSox retooled today with two really good prospects we will face for many years. The Angels could make that trade because as a cash rich big market team they can replace valuable prospects with FAs. We are not that. Let’s not mortgage our future by trying to upgrade this roster with one very expensive (in prospect capital) swing for the fences.
  2. 👍🏻. Another way to look at it is a pretty much low leverage guy with an extra year for a pretty much medium leverage guy with no control next year. So an extra year of control for slightly more use in higher leverage situations.
  3. This is the type of deal that cash rich, big market teams feel they can get away with - they can trade their top prospects knowing that these prospects can be replaced by FAs. The ChiSox just acquired two excellent long-term players with whom we will have to contend for years. Since we cannot truly compete for a Pennant without first taking care of business in the Central, this trade is exactly a reminder of why we need to keep building our roster for the longer-term rather than depleting our prospect ranks by going all in this year with a fundamentally flawed team.
  4. You’re right - it’s water under the bridge. Props though to the FO’s of the Twins and Marlins for moving Lopez closer to his son.
  5. Actually, add Lee and Jeffers and that means six of our eight position players are legitimate major leaguers comprising our new young “cornerstones” - all making essentially league minimum and controllable for years. Of course, Correa is the seventh position player and Buxton, although we’d hope he’d be our CF, is the DH (for better or worse). We could use a FA RH CFer before Rodriguez appears in ‘25 and Jenkins hopefully in ‘26 or ‘27. With Vasquez, Farmer, and two of Polanco, Larnach, Castro and Gordon, I’d take those 13 position players right now in ‘24.
  6. Please, just keeping turning us away or move Hader to another team first. This team is not a reliever away from truly competing.
  7. Cry. That Mahle trade cost us a lot: two great prospects now pretty much established starting major leaguers and the trade’s failure made us move Arraez for Lopez. I look at this trade as moving a pretty much low leverage guy (Lopez) for hopefully a medium leverage guy.
  8. Yeah, last season’s trade deadline was an absolute disaster. Just a complete joke. Good luck Jorge.
  9. Huge fan of Julien (and have been all season long). He’s the one player now for whom I will make an extra effort to ensure I see his at bats. Having said that, at the moment he is still practically a platoon player - starting only against RHers and being replaced defensively in nearly every game we are winning heading into the late innings. To be the “next Arraez” he will need to continue his trajectory to become an every day player. Rocco needs to give him that opportunity and let him build his confidence against lefties as well.
  10. Let’s keep in mind if the FO moves Wallner and Larnach, then we will be down FOUR outfielders at the end of the season when Kepler and Gallo move on. Maybe FIVE if Taylor does not return. We are then left with two super utility players, Gordon and Castro (if they are even back) and our everyday 1B, Kiriloff, as our only OFers with major league experience. The fact is we are already short in the OF with no Buxton and a bunch of players who are, or should be, departing. Please, please do not sell our young, controllable talent. Even if the FO and Rocco’s jobs are on the line without a playoff win, we cannot mortgage the future and wind up next offseason signing a bunch of one and dones like this year. Invest instead!
  11. Buxton won’t be in CF, but maybe Rodriguez is for a few years. Either way, Rodriguez and Jenkins should be in the OF for years.
  12. I guess that inside off the plate pitch is going to be a strike all night - at least with the Twins at the plate.
  13. Boy, if the absolutely dismal underperformance of this team in the years since our aberration homer year is the definition of an “open window” our franchise is in deep doo doo. But for sure, Kepler, Gallo, Solano, Castro and Taylor are not going to the basis for any sort of “open window” in the future. Not even a crack.
  14. So you think our window is closing? You don’t like our up and comers? You think an additional FA to our starting staff isnt sufficient? You want any or all of the one year rental vets back?
  15. Sorry, but the window is just opening, particularly if we invest in our young players to turn them into actual major leaguers. The ‘23 Twins are a transition team in the field. Gallo, Solano, Castro, Taylor are all one and done. Kepler is gone too. We might include Polanco too. Here is our ‘24/‘25 lineup possibilities: Infield: CC, Lewis, Lee, Julien, Polanco (maybe ‘24), Farmer (‘24) Miller/Schobel (‘25). Outfield: Larnach, Wallner, Kiriloff (or 1B), Rodriguez (‘25), Gordon and/or Martin plus ideally one FA (CF would be ideal). Catcher: Jeffers and Vasquez DH: Buxton Starters: Ober, Ryan, Lopez, Varland, Paddock, Raya and Festa (both ‘25) plus one FA next year. All set for 3 years and that excludes Prielipp and Widener. Bullpen: Duran, Jax, Stewart, and we will figure out the rest. That team is young, cheap, and improving. Plenty of cash to fill in holes with FAs - one starter, one OFer, and relievers as needed. This team beats the ‘23 Twind hands down, particularly if we get a manager/coaching staff that can develop young talent. And the team is way more fun to watch,
  16. Wallner and Larnach could only be so lucky to be traded. Seriously, let’s face it: neither player (rightly or wrongly - and I’m a wrongly guy) is currently being viewed as a “corner outfielder of the future” with the Twins. They look at Steer, CES and others and can only dream of being given a real opportunity to prove they are legitimate major leaguers. A opportunity, btw, which they both deserve and have earned. Both players need commitment, patience and an organization that is better adept at transitioning minor leaguers into the bigs to do that. The Twins don’t offer any of that. Play them or trade them. And if it is “trade them”, no one really cares what we get back - just let them have their true chance to achieve the life for which they have been striving virtually their entire lives. We can all write posts in the coming years about how smart or dumb the FO was.
  17. It was so wonderful to see Buxton and his teammates so happy tonight. Everyone is so all in to getting BB back to his old self.
  18. I have to admit, watching Julien throw to first reminds me how I use to feel when Delmon Young was tracking a fly ball…. But Julien made a nifty play today - a real Web Gem. Fun to watch, nice to see.
  19. Agree, we took care of the A’s like we should have and a split on the road against a good pitching Mariners club is certainly acceptable. Mission accomplished on this west coast swing.
  20. The only two people in the entire Twins related community who might think about sending Julien down when Polanco returns are Falvey and Rocco. Four solid young player core for ‘24 and beyond has emerged: Lewis, Jeffers, Kiriloff and Julien. It would be nice to get at least two more of the following players solidly into that group before year end: Lee, Larnach, Wallner, Miranda and, yes, even Gordon, Martin and Celestino. BTW, if Ober is our theoretical #5 starter, we are in great shape. The man shakes off the long lay off rust and is a bulldog the rest of the way.
  21. This is great stuff Jamie. Love the analysis and effort. Thank you.
