  1. AK, wasn't their pick, Larnach (Jury still out), Correa cost 30+ million a year, Lee is still in AA (I have high hopes for him) and Lewis finally looks like the real deal but sits at 53 big league at bats. So call me not so impressed that with 8+ plus first round picks and 300 million dollars got this much developed. They have done great with Varland and Ober, (Duran via Escobar), OK with Moran and Jax (Both like AK were already in organization) Win a playoff series or at least a game and all will be forgiven.
  2. He is in the minors correct? Can we worry about his numbers when he gets to the majors? I could care less about his minor league numbers (Other than they are good and he might be good in the majors)
  3. There are not medical doctors for starting major league pitchers like quite of few are on this board are. That is a joke people!🤪
  4. First this isn't meant as a complaint about the length of stats, they have been way, way better this year, and for the most part haven't really questioned too many of when the starters have been pulled. But by count a starter has pitched into the 6th in 33/56 starts, the 7th in 12/56 starts and 8th in 1/56 starts. (not counting innings where they didn't get an out, I know there have been a few of them) So the pen has regularly been required to pitch 3+ innings, so lets not get carried about saying 8th and 9th inning, that is very rare.
  5. Maybe they can pitch tonight but they are basically done until Sunday and that seems like a bad plan.
  6. If Lopex or Stewart pitch today that would be 4 of the last 6 days, that seems excessive. De Leon would be 3 of 5 having pitched 43 pitches. IMO none should be used tonight and them being needed is probably a really, really bad thing. Since Jax, Moran, Pagan and Duran should be available for at least an inning a piece. I just don't agree with using Stewart and Lopez in a 8 - 0, or 8 -2 with guys on.
  7. So why bring him out for the 7th? It was already 7 - 0, why did he need to pitch more?Just because? or the plan was to get a big lead and Lopez come in a low stressful situation? The main reason I want starters to go longer is because that is less innings for a not so great bullpen and in this case they ended up using arguably two of their top 3 relief pitchers in a 8 - 0 game. I really am fine they pulled him, but wouldn't it make more sense to use Pagan or De Leon and back them ? since most would consider them in the bottom three relief pitchers and had only pitched once in the previous 4 days. Because it looks like today they have Pagan, Moran, and Jax available (with Duran at the end) Maybe the thought is Lopez goes deep today and it doesn't matter, but his last 4 starts have been 5.2, 6, 4.2, 6.1. Which tells me the odds are probably really good they are going to need three innings tonight, and maybe that is Moran and Jax with Duran finishing up, but if either of them two get in trouble, Pagan is probably next man up, and I never want to be in that situation.
  8. The problem with that logic it could have been 3 pitches and he is still at 90. But I do get the logic that if they bring him out for the 8th and he sitting at 100 or just under 100 after you almost have to let him try to get the shut out.
  9. Interesting, I believe last year he pitched 26 for the Twins, 21.1 for the Saints and 105 for Wichita. Not sure about that math, but it doesn't add up to 126. Edit - He is at 56 right now, so basically a third, so if he keeps this pace he would be at 168, seems like the natural progression. 21 - 103 22 - 152.1 23 - 168 Edit #2 - Of his 7 starts this was his second lowest pitch count. (I am not upset they took him out, just would have liked to see him pitch another inning)
  10. I would argue this was the perfect game for Pagen to come in for two innings and close the game out and not waste Lopez and Stewart in a 8 - 0 game, but what do I know.
  11. He was averaging 12 pitchers per inning, if he goes one more he is still under 100 pitches. Is that the absolute limit? if so that is sad, the other starter threw 102. My observation of the game was, the offense finally came though when needed. Maybe give Buxton and Correa another day off. As for pitching two complete opposite approaches one pitcher ran his pitch count up, lasted 4.2 innings recorded 13 outs of which 8 were K's. The other pitcher was way more efficient lasted 7 innings but only had 5 K's. Give me the more efficient pitcher every time, Maybe Gray could learn a thing or two about not trying to strike out every batter.
  12. This FO has had 8 drafts and not one star? Maybe Lewis but 7 years later, possibly Lee but he is still in AA? Getting stars in other way? who might that be, besides a massive contract(s) for Correa? Maybe Duran but as of now he has all of89 innings. I will add isn't it the FO job to hire coaches? Now, they could turn this season around and win a playoff game or two or possibly a series and I would say they deserve another chance, but if not clean house, starting at the top. Remember they were handed future stars all over the diamond (Berrios, Pressly, Rogers, Dozier, Escobar, Sano, Polanco, Arreaz, Buxton, Kepler, Rosario, Miranda, AK, Garver, Gordon, and few mid tier pitchers) and turned it into 21, 22, and a 23 season going downhill. I am not saying everything they have done is bad, they have made some good to great signings and trades, but as whole besides 2019 and a flukely 2020 season call me disappointed so far in their tenure.
  13. Question for you (because I 100% agree with what your said) As of today has this FO done enough in 7 years to keep their job going forward. (I understand there is a long season to go to change everybody opinions) My two cents without at least a playoff win, I say no.
  14. My prediction was 90+ wins, with this starting pitching and my thought was the offense would be a bit better than average, not this Sh!t show they are running out everyday. As for the youth movement, this is the 7th year of this FO and after the last two anything less than a playoff win is unacceptable to me and it seems they are thinking the same. I thought Ober or Varland should have been in the rotation to start (youth), and that Julien started the season in the majors again slowly implementing the youth, with the hope of AK and Lewis would be coming up.
  15. Can we please stop with the ridiculous comparisons like this . These things should be celebrated; we should be shouting from the roof that their fifth starter is Louie Varland—a 25-year-old who throws 95, has 60 major-league innings under his belt, and still owns a better xFIP than Gerrit Cole. Varland (Who I like and has been great) has pitched all of 34 innings, Cole has pitched 73.2. That is like saying Gray who is second in the majors in ERA but only has 4 quality starts and is 46th in the majors in innings is in the top tier of pitchers in the league, he has been good but every inning he doesn't pitch before the 8th leaves a way less pitcher trying to win the game.
  16. Short Start - Check More than 10 strike outs - Check 6 or less hits - Check 2 or less runs - Check Seems like a pretty standard day at the park for the Twins.
  17. Varland has made 6 starts and only twice went less than 6 innings, which is way better percentage than Gray. Not sure how the Twins justify sending him down. Way different scenario than Wallner. He doesn't need any more minor league innings
  18. Not saying it would affect these type of players. What I was trying to say was if teams could manipulate those young players by having more years of control early and then though the arbitration years, I believe they would. IDK, maybe that is what they are doing with them now, if they don't scream superstar they have them spend more time in the lower minors in hope other teams won't take them?
  19. I don't get this argument, back in the threads about a new labor agreement most everybody was backing the players, this rule would totally not be in the players best interest to change, teams are already manipulating the players and there time. For example Ober, Wallner, Ryan, Varland, Julien all got late starts and thus will probably lose out on getting more than one big contract (if event that), Compared to guys like Buxton and Correa who got an early start. As for this guy he is in low A at age 22, to me that isn't much of a prospect unless he gets to at least AA this year. Otherwise he is just another mid 20's guy taking up a 40 man spot.
  20. By all means lets give this FO another chance to rebuild, I a mean 7 years can't possibly enough time evaluate this FO.
  21. Their performance on the field that is what I am grading them on. I gave you the grade of each pitcher and the starting rotation an grade of B+/A- and you are making that sound as if it is a kick to the face. Disagree with my grade thats awesome, your right to have whatever opinion you want. Do you think Gray's last 4 performances are worthy of an A, that is 40% of his starts, Do you think Pablo Lopez would say at this point his season has gone as good as he hoped for? (I sure hope not), I think Ober would pretty darn happy so far (maybe not being taken out of the last game after 76 pitches, but that aside) and I think Varland would be as well minus a pitch here and there. Mahle and Maeda probably not so much, and I have to include them in my grade (They have started almost 20% of the Twins games)
  22. umm, based on their performance, the only Twins starter that truly one of the best starters in the American league is Ryan (and he has been amazing), Gray has been great for his limited innings pitched. Lopez has been really good and has pitched more innings but has he been great? Varland and Ober have came up and saved the rotation after the Maeda was terrible and Mahle was average to decent. Both Varland and Ober have been very good but not great. So IMO B+/A- minus is more than fair grade, giving them an A would mean this is the best they can do? is that what you believe that they only way forward is being worse then right now?
  23. Oh didn't know I was required to give me grade based on a curve? Ryan gets an A Gray B+/A- Lopez B/B+ Ober B+ Varland B- Mahle - B- Maeda - D That seems like a B+/A- just like my initial post. Bullpen Winder - F Rodriguez - F SWR - F Alcala - F De Leon - D Jax - C- Pagan - C- Moran - B- Headrick - B Lopez - B Thielbar - A when he pitches but only has 10 innings so B- Duran - A Sands - A Stewart - A Castro - A So maybe D was a bit harsh, I will up that to D+/C-.
  24. I will say the starting pitching has been really good, but I disagree Gray is pitching at a CY Young level, 6 of his 10 starts have been only 5 innings and one was 5.1 (he is 26th in the American league in innings), which is causing way too may not good relief pitchers to pitch. In the innings he does pitch he has been great. So I say B+/A- for the starters, and D for the relief pitchers.
