I didn't say any of this, I said if a 25 former minor league player of the year, top prospect's future is a low role player, quit wasting time with him, let some other team deal with the 40 man roster spot and sign him for cheap when he is a free agent.
-
I am talking about his career as a whole, Since 19 he hasn't played more than 81 games so sure he been a decent major league player in SSS. I am not saying he isn't worth a 40 man spot, what I am saying is you don't roster a guy like him and stick him in the minors, he is either on the MLB roster, or cut. Because guys like him are a dime a doze, same with Garlick types.
-
Not sure I grasp this logic, you want him to be the starting CF next year but don't want him out there this year because 3B is somehow easier to get comfortable hitting? IMO if they are thinking he could play CF (I don't think they do because I believe they think he is too fragile) why not get him out there a couple of times a week now?
-
If Miranda's future is Solano, there really is no reason to keep him on the 40 or have him part of this teams future, because Solano's are a dime a dozen, he career OPS less than Kepler's.
-
What is your thoughts of moving the #1 Twins prospect to CF, maybe moving Buxton to RF if and when he can play in the field. It isn't like there is a minor league player that projects to be a starting CF (Unless of course E Rod figures it out, but he is still in A+ ball, so he is probably 2 years away.
-
They basically extended a good pitcher for the price of the pitchers that pitch as well as him have been getting and maybe less. The signing isn't the problem, see my post above for what is. You do realize Lopez is younger than Ober (only two years older than Varland) with a track record way better than either of those two. No he isn't Valdez or Cole, but very few are.
-
I get it people don't like the trade and love Arraez. But people are dumping on Lopez like he is Archer, Bundy, Shoemaker, and Happ, he isn't, he is a pitcher the Twins haven't had since Berrios, Gibson, and Erv Santana where going out consistently pitching into the 7th or 8th. He hasn't pitched like a ace that is for sure. But he is averaging 6 innings per start and just more than half of the time he is going 6 with 3 runs or less, he is and has been healthy, Would I like to see less 4+ runs per start games, yes I would. But with him, Ryan and 5 inning Gray they give any team a chance in a 3 game series. It takes giving up something to get something so IMO to get a pitcher like Lopez it was going to take Arreaz, Lewis or Lee (and with the later two probably another top prospect) This post isn't meant to defend the FO, I mean it is the lack of actually building a pipeline and terrible other trades that forced their hand yet again into trading for another starting pitcher (Ryan, Gray, Paddock, Mahle). If look at what they gave up to Gray, Mahle and Lopez ts is a gosh darn kings ransom. Looking at each trade independently I was and still am for each because of the situation, taken as a whole this FO should really, really being worrying about their job if they can't turn this season around.

So can we talk about putting the Twins #1 prospect center field? Thus opening up 3B for Lee or Miranda?

Prospect Retrospective: Jordan Balazovic
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
The pipeline continues to give the Twins relativity effective relief pitchers. Hopefully, Balazovic ends up being something between Jax and Duran. -

The Twins Have a Type When it Comes to Trades
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am all for picking apart this FO they deserve it, but Badoo was taken in the rule 5 draft, besides a fairly decent rookie year, has done NOTHING that us fans should be upset about losing him. Rooker, was traded then cut by two teams and had really good April and since has been brutal, again no fan should be upset he isn't a Twin. Raley is three years removed from being a Twins and up until this has been a minor league player, again no fan should be upset he is gone. I could give you Wade maybe, but going into this year he had been injured and in his best year he was only 2.1. Having this 4 guys taking up 40 man spots for the last years wouldn't have helped much of any the last two years, and in reality probably not much this year with the exception of Wade.- 31 replies

Well the good thing is Rocco said before the game that Buxton is no closer to playing in the field then he was at the beginning of spring training. 22K attendance the last two nights, wondering if that will continue?

Please fire the entire coaching staff, except Pete Maki!!
TwinsDr2021 replied to thrillema25's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Last year the Phillies fired Girardi on June 3 (22 - 29), Angles fired Maddon June 7th in the midst of a 12 game losing streak after starting the season 21 - 11. Blue Jays fired Montoyo July 13th (46 - 42). The Rangers fired Woodward in August (51-63) this year first place 2nd best record in the American league. So it does happen, doesn't mean the teams players better but it does happen. -
That extra day of rest worked well for Varland and Lopez. Not pointed at you, but I love the thought of skipping your best starter to save for the playoffs when you have been the 3rd worst team in American League for the last month and a half.

Haven't commented on this yet, but why are we giving Pete Maki a break? Is the starting staff improving as the season goes, staying the same or getting worse? I would say IMHO it is regressing. Gray ERA up innings down, Ryan the same, Lopez and Varland more of the same, Ober has been pretty consistent. How about the bullpen? -
Should The Twins Make A Swap At Third Base?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
LF - Lewis/Gallo/Larnach CF - MAT/Buxton RF - AK/Wallner/Larnach 3B - Miranda/Farmer/Lewis/Solano 2B - Farmer/Julien/Solano 1B - Julien/AK/Gallo/Solano SS - Correa Still leaves you Gallo, Solano, Wallner (kepler would be gone)Larnach and Castro. When Polanco comes back you move one of Miranda, Wallner or Larnach back to AAA. This plenty of at bats for this roster if Buxton is playing mostly in Center, you have position flexibly with everybody but Correa and Buxton being able to play multiple positions. But sticking Buxton solely at DH, makes the team worse unless of course he was actually hitting like he as in the past. -
I agree with you on, does it really matter what he says. As I have said before I haven't liked him as a manager from just about the start so, nope it doesn't matter what he says to me. But many of TD has said this team doesn't play with heart and the laissez-faire attitude of the manager just re-enforces that, and people don't want to think of their favorite team that way, so they are looking for something that disagrees with what their eyes are seeing. What I would really like him to say and it might change my mind a tiny bit on him, maybe. 🤪 I sick and tired of our high prices veterans walking back to the dugout after watching another 3 three call or swinging a missing a pitch by two feet, it pisses me off watching professional outfielders throwing to the wrong damn base or missing the cut off. I am upset with our players walking/running around the bases like damn zombies. If these guys aren't going to act and play like professionals maybe we need to give others a shot at playing like professionals. (I know him or any other manager wouldn't say this in 2023, but man wouldn't it be nice if they did every once in a while)
-
Maybe say they we are working on (or going to) going to back to some of the basics since striking out, playing terrible defense and making mental mistake is unacceptable We have tweaked (or going to) our training program so professional athletes aren't sore and tired after playing a game of baseball. How about saying the buck stops with me I am the manager I need to do a better job of managing and giving these players are better game plan. But really what you need to say is that we are going to fix things.

Should The Twins Make A Swap At Third Base?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The idea of sending 24, 25 and 26 year old men to the minor leagues to fix things is a concept I just don't understand. Sure it might work for a player here or there to get their head in the right place, but it seems to be the Twins solution to everything, Bring up a guy at 24 give them a little bit of a chance, if the struggle send them down, they get hot in AAA bring them up, rinse and repeat. Maybe other teams do this as well but it seems like a losing strategy. Because you get into a situation like the current one, a bunch of mid 20 guys that haven't taken a job but are taking of 40 man roster spots. (Lewis, AK, Larnach, Wallner, Miranda, Julien, Gordon) -

TwinsDr2021 replied to thrillema25's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
You didn't really just compare Cashman to our FO office did you? And then move the goal posts to championships? Nobody is talking about the Twins FO has to win a championships to keep their jobs, most are talking about winning a fricken playoff game, just 1, and playing watchable baseball. And just in case you didn't know since 2017 the Yanks have been to 3 American League championship series and haven't missed the playoffs, and also don't play in the Central Division. -
First thought, if Buxton really can't play defense they need to put him on the DL, he is actually making the teams worse right now by not being on the DL. Second good to see they were able to get their third best relief pitcher in a 9 - 3 game, too bad it wasn't when the game was tied 3 - 3. Third, when he pulled Lopez and brought in Moran did it not feel like Deja Vu from the other night? My phone blew up with text messages screaming, why pull him and if you had to why go to Moran, can't Jax get you to the 8th? Finally people talk about this team having no heart, I disagree it was looking like they might not get to double digits strikeouts, but this team really rallied the last three innings to strikeout out 5 times and get to double digits. Time for Rocco to go and the FO after the year if a new manager can't inject so life into this team, with the money and prospect capital spent there is no way this should be one of the worst teams in the league over a Month plus time frame.

Louie Varland Has a Home Run Problem
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
100% agree Headrick is the only starting in the minors. I think being stretched out is a bit overrated, because big strong 25 year olds plus should be able to add 20 to 40 pitchers over a couple of weeks. So having a Headrick, Varland, Winder throwing 2 to 3 innings, shouldn't take much time to get them to 4 - 6, so if one pitcher goes on the IR for a period they have the bodies to be fine with that, now if two or more go down, then it doesn't matter because they are probably screwed either way.
