    So you took that he won't win an MVP because he doesn't hit homers as he isn't that good? I was responding to somebody else saying if he wins MVP, not if he ends up in the top 5 which you seem to be saying. On ESPN and baseball reference (maybe the same, not sure) he is behind Marte in WAR (3.6,3.5), In case you didn't know Marte also plays second, not saying Marte is better but there could be an argument made. In no way was I saying he isn't good, because obviously he is, I was just pointing out facts, only Ichiro won an MVP with less than 10 homers and that was in 2001 before that was Rose in 1973. I could also point out how few second basemen win the award. If you re-read my response to somebody I didn't even comment on if the trade was good or bad, so Would I have made the trade, yup, Would I have made the trade knowing how the two players would play in a 1/2 season I still would. The Twins got a 27 year old pitcher with a better than average track record and this FO hasn't proved they can develop that themselves. Do I think the Marlins are laughing, I don't, I think they are happy that they went out and got a offensive player that is really good for a position that seem pretty good at developing, how this trades ends up is still yet to be determined but as of now I think the Marlins are really, really happy, and the Twins are satisfied they were able to slot in a starter that averages 6 innings a start and as of yet hasn't gotten hurt. Does it hurt not having Arraez, yes, where we hoping for more from Lopez, yes, but having Arraez and say SWR in the rotation make this a better team, I don't know that it does. Want to know who might be laughing right now? Toronto and Houston, they got Berrios and Pressly and the Twins have gotten, wait for it basically nothing to this point.

    With the way the 40 man roster is constructed, it is hard to add more mid to late 20 year olds to it. The 40 man is loaded with unproven older guys. (Larnach, Miranda, AK, Wallner, Julien, Winder, Sands, Headrick, Canterino, Alcala, Lewis) That is 25% of the 40 man, sure Lewis looks like a keeper, maybe Julien, the rest as of now are just players, Looking at the 40 man on the non-pitching side, there are two obvious to get rid of (Kepler and Gallo) but then who? Nobody they are going to cut so it would have to be a trade, and who of the above mentioned players are going to return anything? Plus at some point Gordon is coming back and another decision will need to be made. Plus who at the end of the year goes away? Taylor and Solano and more unproven players will need to be added. On the they are screwed because none of the following at taken a job AK, Larnach, Celestion, Wallner, Miranda.

    I guess you missed where I said cut Kepler and send Gallo to the bench. I am not mad at Buxton, he is just terrible, and if the Twins want to DL they can, simply by saying he needs to be back in CF and if he can't he needs to go on the DL. IMO bringing Larnach and Miranda don't do what I want to accomplish and that is shake things up, get players worried about their job and by passing those two for guys in AA does that IMO.

    How the Pressly and Berrios trades don't make the list is beyond my comprehension. Both still could end up well, but as of now, they basically got 4 minor league players. Don't care how good Martin, Celestino, SWR and Alcala could be (I mean I do and hope they are) but as of now they haven't been good.

    I will go out on a limb and say Arraez doesn't ever win a MVP, he is basically hitting .400 and kind of is an after thought in the MVP race (he just doesn't have the power), I mean is he even the best 2B in the National league right now? #1 will be bad no matter what the other players do and #5 is way too early to decide on.

    I could care less if he is as healthy as he is going to get, having him up is hurting the team and if the manager and FO can't see that well they are worse than I think they are (and that is pretty bad) June - 5/42 - .119/.178/.357 that is f'n terrible AK has played like crap all of June, with Correa that is the middle of the lineup hitting just slightly better than if us fans were in the lineup. Larnach and Miranda have done nothing worthy of being called up. Wallner has and with Buxton on the DL he can DH. Getting somebody up that can play center field means we can start being done with Taylor and his .215/.235/.477 They aren't cutting Gallo, but they shouldn't be starting him very often either, he can pinch hit and play some defense. But if they want to cut him, I am for that as well - .186/.239/.395 I will say this if nothing is done prior to tomorrow I may have to actually start cheering on the losses.

    He is playing well, and if you see my other post he should be up for tomorrows game (in the game recap) but he is much older than the other guys in some cases 5,6,7 years older. It also seems like a hitters league (no idea) but some of those guys are putting up some crazy stats and are not in the top 100 prospects. Good Day.

    Rocco in the press conference sounded like what quite a few on here have been saying for a two plus years. The question on the two strike approach after the Rays series. That was 19 games ago and they have gone 9 - 10 and nothing changed. The question I have is who isn't going to Baltimore, you can't have a presser like that and not a make some sort of change. Buxton to the IR, Kepler gone, AK to the minors (June - 16/74 - .216/.284/.324) Here is what I would do I would send AK down and call up Williams, I would cut Kepler and bring up Wallner, IR Buxton and do something splashy like call up Keirsey, or Soularie. (I would personally would call up Rosario, but I know that is going to happen and only me wants that)

    On a positive note the bullpen pitched 9 1/3 innings out of 24 and only gave up 2 runs. Sadly in those 3 games the offensive only scored 3 runs.

    I think they extended him because they feel pretty confident that they can pencil him in the rotation for the next 3 plus years and he would be better than the prospects they have coming up in that timeframe, and if they are wrong about the prospects and they are better than expected they should be able to flip a pretty decent contract. And to save some face that they traded Arreaz.

" I added data to say you were incorrect he isn't a 4/5 starter and the numbers say he is in the range I said. Now you changed to who won and who lost. If you are only going to compare Lopez to Arraez, it seems the Twins lost. But the whole picture isn't as black and white as who won and who lost. Take Lopez off the Twins and who replaces those 110 innings? It would have to mostly be somebody that hasn't pitched this year for the Twins and more innings for relief pitchers? Then you have to look at who's at bats Arraez would have taken from and do a compare, the Twins still come out on the losing end. But there still is that asset in the minors that could help even that out. I am much more upset how the Berrios trade has worked out than this one. Berrios is back to being one of the best in the American league and as of now the two super prospects have been flops.

    Starting him in AA was fine, when he started taking off I move him ahead of the non-prospects in AAA Stevenson and Contreras. If the FO has no real plans for bringing Wallner up as an outfielder, then I give Keirsey shot there. I mean it doesn't seem all that difficult. But IMO making excuses why a 26 year old can't unseat non prospects in AAA kind of proves my point he isn't much of a prospect. On top of he is the center fielder right above the Twins 20 year old Number 3 prospect. But as I said before, I wish him the best of luck and have said I would love to see him here now.

    In 2018 - In the majors was Berrios, Gibson, had just traded for Odo, Romero, Holdenberger, Rogers, Pressly, Stewart, Moya, Busentiz, May, Duffey, Mejia, Littell. Top prospects were Romero, Gonsalves, Graterol, Enlow, Thorpe, Littell, So I am not positive that you can say there are certainly more quality pitchers, We might think there is because most of those failed, but who is say we won't be saying the same things in the next 5 years. Berrios = Ryen Gibson = Ober Romero = Varland Pressly = Duran Rogers = Jax and then everybody else

    There are 15 teams in the American league. He is 7th in the American league in innings, 3rd in the American league in K's, 16th in the American league in WHIP, 27th in the American league in ERA. To me that puts him in the range of top 15 to top 25 pitchers in the whole league. and that isn't a #4 or #5 starter, he is a 2 or 3 on decent staff and a 3 good staff. I am not saying this to defend the trade (which I liked and still do) but you and others are making it sound like he is Happ, Shoemaker, Bundy or Archer and he isn't, he is the type of pitcher we have been wanting for a while and now that he is here people are pissed he isn't Valdez or Cole.

    Didn't Cruz spend time in the majors at ages 24, 25, 26, and 27 before his career took off and was later suspended for Steroids? and then really took off. You are correct age isn't everything but it combined with production and the level they are at is probably the biggest factor in determining a players career. People might not like it and came back with with multiple names that say otherwise, but they are rare and the outliers. I find it almost laughable in a sport driven by data and analytics that people want to ignore this one. To me that this FO still has him in AA at his age and they way he has been playing speaks loudly to where they think he falls in the pecking order. Would I be for the Twins getting rid of Kepler bringing this kid up to be the 4th/5th outfielder pinch runner and giving him a shot at being something more, and cheer loudly for him, yes absolutely I would, do it today. Do I think he will turn into anymore more than Mark Contreras, sadly I don't.

    Can you tell us what age the average top or middle tier starter debuted? Side note I think Varland will be a fine major league pitcher going forward, but I don't count guys pitching in the minors as part of a current pipeline,

    Got to be honest with this type of definition the last FO was a pitching pipeline dream. Berrios, Gibson, Mejia, Duffey, Pressly, Rogers, Hidenberger, Perkins, May, Duensing, Guerrier, Swarzak, Diamond, Liriano, Hendriks, Blackburn, They had list of studs prospects like Stewart, Jay, Thrope, Chargois, Meyer, Burdi, Romero and Gonzalez. I mean there was a not stop list of studs that didn't turn out or last very long and a few that did well. What is different than this current FO? I mean currently it is two starters (Ryan and Ober) and few bullpen arms (Duran, Jax). I don't count minor league players as part of of a pipleline,

    Seriously talking about a 26 year old repeating AA as prospect? Really? he seems like a great guy and has suffered some bad injuries and I wish him nothing but the best and hopefully some day gets a taste of MLB money. Is some sort of bizarro prospect baseball story? (he is the same age or older than 17 guys on the 40 man) I do like the recap of his baseball career and learning about him and like I said wish him nothing but good health and good luck.

    Don't forget Paddock, since the off season prior to Covid, the Twins have traded for Maeda, Gray, Paddock, Mahle and Lopez. That is five starting pitchers (I don't include Ryan in this group because it was sell off of Cruz, and a great trade, and probably closer to the a pipeline development) Since the 2020 season there has been 464 games. Ober has 43 starts, Varland has 15. That is basically it from the pipeline, now if you want to include Ryan that totals 105 games. Not my idea of a pipeline and with Gray and Maeda mostly likely gone next year, the Twins are going to be struggling with depth again, because no rookie/prospect has stepped up this year. Lopez, Ryan, Ober, and two maybes in Varland and Paddock, and ?????

    But wouldn't that be the same thinking the opponents would have against Ryan, Gray and Ober for example? I mean the Twins have to hit better and have a better offensive plan, but with Stewart, Jax and Duran closing out the game and maybe a couple of others they can add at the deadline, I am not sure how the thinking is they will be getting better the next few years?

    You could make a list like this every year going back X amount of years. I assume the question was which pitcher(s) in the minors are blowing people away and we fans just can't wait for them to get here and are willing to push them here now. and the pitchers in your list aren't the answer to that question. Nothing against Festa or Raya, but my hope for them this year was to be so good that they would push if not pass this list of pitchers SWR/Headrick/Winder/Sands/Balazovic/ Henriquez/Enlow. I don't think that has happened so the list I made is basically the next wave. Lets be honest the pitching prospects list is pretty bare. (Not that a few couldn't step it up and be good Lewis for example)
