    Wasn't arguing against the premise, just pointing out they basically just faced the best of the best and it was close game, and in a close games anything can happen (kind of the play in the 7th). Not disagreeing that the bats have to be better and probably the game plan as well. But I will take Ryan, Gray, Ober/Lopez and in a 3 or 5 game series and see what happens.

    First I would say Ryan isn't and can't be Shane Bieber. Ryan is almost exactly 1 year younger than Bieber. Bieber has pitched 803 innings in his career and Ryan 267. His development is 3 years behind, not sure how he catches that. As for a pipeline, I am going to say no they haven't developed a pipeline, to me a pipeline is a stream of starters coming out of the minors (traded for or drafted) and replacing the starters that have gotten hurt or been traded because they are getting near free agency. With that said they have developed Ober, Varland (in the minors) and should get credit for bringing in Ryan. Gray and Lopez were good gets but it took the prospects to bring them in, probably hurting their pipeline in the process. For the pen they seem to be able to take minor league starters and turn them into viable bullpen pieces. (Duran, Jax, Winder) But I am not sure that is much different than what every team does. They have a decent job finding diamonds in the rough as well. IMO a pipeline would be something like (brought up and started) Ober 21, Ryan 22, Varland 23, Festa 24 , SWR 24, Raya 25, Trading Gray in 23, trading Ober 24, trading Ryan 25 and replenishing the farm along the way and taking he failed starters and putting them in the pen. .

    IMO Gray and Maeda aren't going to return the type of players you are hoping to get in a trade. Maybe a real young prospect that turns into something years down the line (like Duran). I can't imagine the Reds would trade back Petty for a half season of Gray. But with that said I am open to trading Gallo, Kepler, Gray and Maeda while still shopping for a relief pitcher or two that can be trusted. Gray would have to be return they just can't say no to, and the other three I say yes to the trade offer without caring at all who the other team is offering.

    The way Miranda and Larnach played prior to being demoted is one of the reasons this offense was so bad. Not sure swapping out Gallo and Kepler for those two is a positive. Wallner hasn't been given much of a chance but there seems to be something this FO doesn't like about his game, because if you aren't going to give him a chance at age 25 with as bad as Kepler has played when are you ever going to give him a chance?

    How is it possible the Braves seemingly have an endless supply of guys that reach the majors so young, while most of the Twins prospects the same age are considered years away?

    Wasn't a fan of the signing. but failure might be a bit harsh. He helped the Twins get to an early center division league and was pretty good fill in at 1B until AK was healthy. That alone is worth a better than failure grade. He looks worse because of the failures of Buxton, Correa Gordon, Miranda, larnach and Kepler. If they all are playing average, Gallo becomes a very valuable bench/spot starter. With his OBP and power, but that didn't happen, they didn't cut Kepler and give Wallner a real chance, so everything looks bad offensively.

    I only see two Camargo and Severino, most the rest of those guys are really too old for their current level to worry about, that could change over the next couple of months,

    He is signed for another 1 1/2 at around 39 million. So IMO it would take somebody like Larnach/Miranda and probably a pretty decent prospect, unless the Cards start picking up Money, then it will cost more. I personally don't see the Twins doing that, I am kind of done with Larnach so if it was him and Martin. I would say do it. He is the type of player that completely changes a line up for the better and if you can get him for assets you don't believe will help in the future you do it. I don't see a Twins team that has Wallner and Larnach as starters, so IMO one can and should go to upgrade some place else.

    I would see what the Cards are looking for a return for Jordan Hicks. he is UFA next year. I have always been a fan of going after Bedard, but I don't see the Twins having or willing to trade what it would take to get him. Unless the Pirates would settle for Larnach/Wallner and Salas. That I would do,

    What type of Criteria? Some of the better starters might not even get to the counting numbers of some of the relief pitchers in the HOF. Who is the best starters from this ERA, it seems like it is still the older group. Verlander, Max, Clayton, then Cole. then a whole bunch of pitchers in their late 20's early 30's with very little counting stats. I mean right now Berrios is kind of the counting stat leader in the age group.

    if your hope for a player is to be a difference maker better than average manager league player, then you want the guys at 22 to be in AA yes, because they can be just a call away from the majors around age 22/23. If you want a player like players that go one level a year and end of in the majors late 24 early 25 then bounce between the majors and the minors for a year or two and end up a role player/utility guy then by all means cheer for the older guys that are in A ball because in all be the rare cases that is best case scenario. Schobel ( who I lumped into the 21 year old group) is on the same path as Larnach and should end the year in AA Putting him possibly in the majors at 23 if brought up next year, or early 24 if brought up early 25. I can also see why the current Twins FO might like the idea of holding guys back a bit, because if they come up to early they become FA in the prime of their career and get the big money, but if you can hold back to age 24/25 they don't become FA agents until they are 30 greatly reducing their salary potential. In the last few years they haven't brought up any real young players. Graterol was 20 in 19, Arraez was 22, and Celestino was 22 in 21. Other than that everybody has been at least 23. Now that might say more about their drafting philosophy than anything but it sure is nice having a 19/20 year old prospect waiting in the wings and pushing their way towards the majors.

    I read an article ( I will see if I can find it )talking about the end of HOF pitchers, the pitchers that will be up for the HOF after Verlander, Kershaw and Scherzer numbers are going to look so bad compared to the HOF's, If you look at the active win leaders there are 4 over 200 (Verlander - 246, Greinke, Scherzer and Kershaw) if any beside Verlander gets to 250 that would be a surprise. Gerrit Cole has 138 at age 32 (he has to average 14 wins the next 8 years to get to 250), then the leader under the age of 30 is..........................Jose Berrios with 79. Nola does have 84 at age 30. Next after Berrios is Marquez (28) with 65 wins, Bieber (28) has 59. One of the greatest pitchers I have seen has 84 at age 35 (deGrom) Wrong thread for this but Joe Ryan is 27 and has 23 wins,

    See my last response, they have assets for relief rental pitchers, they have plenty of those assets. They aren't going after Soto, Ohtani or either of the Cards older guys. They aren't and I think most would agree that would be a bad idea. Maybe somebody would take Gordon, to me he has fulfilled his needs here, he has no options and a guy in his position needs to have some, because he just isn't good enough to be a major league full time starter. I am guessing a terrible team would take a chance on Celestino for a expiring contract, which would probably be an over pay on the Twins part.

    Miranda is like Arraez (no where near as good of hitter) but if he is playing really well, you find a spot 3B, 2B, 1B, DH, RF I really don't know but he has options left and is only going to turn 25 next week. I am not ready to give up on him quite yet. Julien is very similar and long term both him and Miranda don't work on this teams with their fielding issues, but the dude can hit and 1B, DH, 2B occasionally works. Also Julien reminds me of Kubel pre-broken body and that could be special and I was also calling for him to start the season with the Twins, so I might be biased. I have said it before I am kind of done with Larnach, he has been given the most chances and in 2 plus season over 600 at bats at the age of 26 probably will never be more than he is right now. As for 2B, Lee hasn't played 1 inning there since signing with the Twins, so I am not quite ready to hand him the position, I am one of the few that would like him to be the Twins starting left fielder right now (another position he hasn't played) Plus I don't see this team being big time buyers, they are set in the rotation, they are set currently in the infield. The could always upgrade in the outfield but I don't see them going after a star player that would require massive trade assets. It is bulpen help, then more bullpen, on top of more bullpen help.

    I don't want them to be sellers because that probably means the ownership as given them some sort of job security and if they don't make the playoffs and win a game this year, I want this FO GONE! With the players they have, the amount of money and prospect capital spent and we would have to deal with 21, 22, 23 in the worse division in baseball is unacceptable. With that said they could be both buyers and sellers at the deadline as long as they are trying to improve this years team and future teams. Meaning I would be pissed if they traded a controllable asset like Julie/Miranda for a relief pitcher that is a FA at the end of the year and they still miss the playoffs. They have a bunch of older unproven guys at all levels and those are the types I would like to see traded.

    Celestino, Williams in AAA could be guys to trade for a relief pitcher. I personally would want more than a relief pitcher for Miranda, Julien and Larnach. I actually wouldn't trade Julien or Miranda unless I was offered I couldn't resist. Keirsey seems like the perfect guy to trade to a terrible team with a good relief pitcher. Keirsey just turned 26 bats left handed and seems to be way down the pecking order of Twins prospects and is playing great (Haven't looked in great detail but maybe somebody like Brent Suter from COL?)

    Hate to ask, but who are the guys in AAA? Are you talking about the Wallner, Miranda and Larnach? Two of those haven't been good this year and the other one is 25 and never really has been given a chance. I am kind of done with the Larnach experiment but I agree with getting Wallner up, Miranda is a little different, I really don't want him taking at bats from Lewis or AK so I don't really see a fit this year. (Since Buxton isn't going to play the field) Nobody else in St. Paul to I really care to see up, Williams has been great but he is 26 1/2 and plays 1B and DH and not on the 40 man.

    What the those pitchers did was absolutely amazing. it is pretty obvious no pitcher will likely ever do that again, and probably won't even get close to completing that many games. So the question becomes will a Twins pitcher get to 60 wins? Gibson got to 67 as a Twins and Berrios got to 55 as Twins. Joe Ryan is sitting at 23 right now. With that said half of the runs didn't come via a solo homer, which is a good sign. The hits doubled the K's another good sign, Gallo didn't play another good sign. Don't understand pinch hitting for your #3 batter but that can be forgiven today. Ryan was amazing and efficient and when talking about the best starters in the American league he should be right there with McClanahan after the 3 studs (Cole, Valdez, and Eovaldi) I also think it was hugely important he didn't walk a batter, because if he did he likely wouldn't have been give a chance to complete the game. By my math he was sitting at 98 pitches after the 8th, add another 4 plus pitches and there is really no chance he coming back out in the 9th. Now lets see this offense continue to hit and score and the starters go a bit further so we don't have to see this ratty arse bullpen pitch too much.

    Yes he just turned 22 about 20 days ago, so he would be, so he would be included in the 21 and under, but if there is hope he will be a above average player, he should be moving quickly. For example do great this year, moved to 22 next year and hopefully up and down the following years.

    Why not, it isn't like he is going to block and prospects, since there really very little prospects in AA(Festa) or AAA (SWR) and both haven't been good.

    He is 23 in A+, so 24 in AA, 25 in AAA, if that is the case he is more of just a minor league roster filler, he was a 11th round pick so that the most likely outcome no matter where he is playing. But IMO when you draft these older players they need to move along quickly so they can be trade bait, aren't blocking younger higher end talents (I am saying he is) or be moved on from. Why is 26 year old Keirsey in AA, I assume it is because Contreras (28), Larnach(26), Wallner (25), Stevenson(29) would be blocking his playing time? Why are Larnach and Wallner in AAA, because they are blocked by Kepler and Gallo. It is a domino effect and then trade assets turn into less of an asset, and you still end up trading the younger guys off anyway and when the mid 20's fail to produce to (which they do more likely than not) you get into the position the Twins are in. My two cents on why people want to see some quick movement from some of the younger guys and maybe the fact way too many people talk about the need to percolate in the minors for seemingly years while other teams are getting their young high end talent to the majors at 20,21,22 years old to the majors and playing well.

    The only guys I care about in A+ are guys that are 21 or younger, if you are older than should you should be playing really well. (I give the two catchers a bit of a break because they do tend to take longer) Unless of course the thought on a older guy is he is a year or so away from the majors. I want difference makers, not just role players in the majors.

    So having Ober waste 18 innings in the minors at the beginning of the year will cost the Twins 3 starts this year while trying to win a major league division, hmm, imagine if people would have said even if Ober isn't in the starting rotation for the Twins why would you waste any of his limited innings in the minors. Wait, there were a bunch of people that pointed that out and yet the Twins FO did it and then will tell us like we are fools he is on a innings limit this year and pretend they didn't piss 18 innings away. This was in no way pointed at you, just happen to reply to your message was on point and well written.
