  1. If the price is right (which IMO is some older relief pitcher in the low minors), I would do it. He seems like the type of player that may give the offense a spark.
  2. I don't really think it is a hurry to trade Wallner, I think it is more the reality of the situation, the Twins couldn't find a way to get him on the roster this year until there were multiple injuries and when everybody is healthy he is likely to go back down. (That wouldn't be my choice, but it seems like the most likely thing to happen) Very few teams go into a season that they are expecting to complete for a division title and more with a 26 year old unproven starting player (that is what young highly rated prospects are for), so it is likely he will again start next year in the minors. They are likely to go into next year with three players in a similar situation as Miranda was this year (Julien, AK and Lewis), 4 or 5 if you think Larnach or Miranda should be a starter. I don't think this or any FO would feel comfortable with that situation plus Wallner, and maybe Lee soon behind that is more like what a rebuilding team would do. With no changes next years starters C - Jeffers/Vazquez, 1B - AK, 2B - Polanco, SS- Correa, 3B - Lewis, LF - Larnach, CF - Buxton, RF - Kepler, DH- Julien, that leaves Wallner and Miranda on the outside or bench. So it seems best to trade Larnach or Wallner. As far a your trading order, IMO Gallo returns nothing Gordon next to nothing Kepler very little Larnach something decent Wallner more than something decent.
  3. I would add if they stand pat and end up not winning the division, their job could/should be in jeopardy.
  4. Anybody in Wichita not named Schobel, Lee, Raya, Festa for starters. Also anybody in St. Paul not named Camargo, And probably many more in Cedar Rapids.
  5. I get the comparison, but it seems like a stretch, first Prado will already be a year older than Dozier (assuming he isn't called up this year), the Twins were not in compete mode at all. 2011(63-99), 2012(66-96) Dozier's first year, 2013 (66-96), 2014 (70-92), Dozier was terrible in 2012 in 84 games, no chance a team trying to compete is going to give a 26 year old rookie that kind of leash. So IMO he just won't have the opportunity that Dozier had unless he is traded to a team trying to rebuild and can give him the chance to succeed like those terrible early 2010's Twins.
  6. The question asked was - "Has Willi Castro Forced Himself into the Twins' Long-Term Plans?" and the answer to that question is a resounding No. You never put a utility player in your long term plan, ever, especially with one option and only two years of control. With that said he deserves to be on this years team with the way the team currently stands, there could be trades made that make it really hard to carry him, but I doubt that happens. I also has believe he has earned a real shot at being the utility player for next year.
  7. Late Bloomers are very rare, Whit Merrified and Cronenworth are better examples, Dozier was in the majors at 25, Meneses played for a team that was 55 - 107 last year and was a 1 WAR player and barely replacement level this year on a team with a .396 winning percentage, he isn't an example of a late bloomer, he is an example of player that would be in the minors for any team actually trying to win. Pretty much the same scenario that Merrifield and Cronenworth were given chances. There is little to no chance those 3 players go into the 24 season as anything more than emergency replacements, like Contreras and Stevenson were this year. If they are this FO should be fired immediately they have younger more talented players that should be promoted before them. I love a good story as much as the next but you just don't see winning teams relying on players like this, they call up their stud prospects that they believe will be difference makers.
  8. Helman will be 28, Williams 27, Keirsey 27 next year and Carmargo is a catcher, lets be honest if any of those players play on the Twins next year or really ever (Not including Carmargo in that statement) things have gone horribly wrong.
  9. This depends on how he finishes the year, if he last ten or so starts go similar to the last 10, I bet that drops a few teams at least out of the Gray is worth 20 million.
  10. 💯agree to this, but it really was more like his first 6 starts, and then every 4th or 5th game. @Ted Schwerzler - "he has been great this season often pitching deeper into games" He has started 19 games and finished 6 innings 8 times, 7 twice and successfully got at least one out in the 6th 10 times that is not my definition of often.
  11. 💯agree with this, so IMO if either or both go, it will be cause they have brought in a player from another team to replace them. I don't think this front office is going to admit to the mistake of signing Gallo and cutting him and replacing him with an internal option, when one of them hasn't really been good for 3 years and the other they haven't trusted to be in the majors except as a last resort of the 40 man.
  12. I understand that Gordon and Paddack will have a rehab assignment so that takes De Leon and Alcala spot. So for every player traded for will require a 40 man player sent out or DFA'd at some point. Plus next year more will need to be added, and they can't just add more minor league players to it with promoting current guys on the 40. That is why it would make sense to trade Larnach or Wallner or Miranda and one or more of those relief type pitchers on the current 40 man but in the minors. And only two guys are under age 24 currently (SWR and Henrquez) and only those two and Lewis will be under 25 when next season starts or shortly after the season starts.
  13. I think everything revolves around the 40 man. Right now it is full. So for every player brought in one has to go. They have two guys coming off the 60 day IL at some point (Gordon/Paddack) which means two guys being removed. So it seems like at a minimum they should be trading a couple of players from the following list: Wallner/Larnach/Miranda/Celestino/SWR/Winder/Headrick/Henrquez and probably a guy or two that requires a 40 man spot next year.
  14. and yet they hit 4 homers ans struck out 12 times. Not complaining just pointing that out. They did score 5 runs without the homers and that would have been enough to win. 6 of their 14 hits where for extra bases, not really sure they changed that much of an approach and shows if you have guys hitting well the approach works and people love it, it is just when they aren't it looks horrible. I mean if Correa, Julien, AK and Kepler would have been hitting like this all year, we wouldn't be complaining about the approach we would be talking about a World Series parade because they be 10 plus games up in the division. Again not complaining, great win and fingers crossed they have 2 or 3 players every night hitting like this, because it will be a much more fun summer than what we have seen so far this year.
  15. Hernandez is the only guy of the 3 that is a FA at the end of the year and that is what I would be looking for. He seems like the Shannon Stewart type of spark plug needed, and if not he seems like an easy DFA option. The only real problem with him is who goes off the 40 man.
  16. I would take a chance on Lawrence (not sure why they would trade him with 5 years of control but..) Also Bard but he is kind of expensive for a 38 year old and not sure why they would trade him since he choose to sign back with them. I would also take a flyer on Hand for a nothing prospect with the idea he would have a real short leash. He seems like the kind of guy that hasn't been great but can catch fire for a few months.
  17. #1 is Lewis #2 is Stewart #3 is Thielbar At this point having Polanco and Gordon being hurt probably helps the team more than them coming back. (Of course that is because Buxton has to DH)
  18. Assuming you mean Bryan De La Cruz and yes it would be great if Wallner could be like him.
  19. Don't forget about jack Clark and his 1.055 OPS being injured.
  20. maybe that is true, but the Twins are 3 - 11 in his last 14 starts. Maybe a Festa gets called up if Maeda or Gray gets traded and goes on nice run, or Varland comes back up and pitches well? Right now Gray feels like the Twins 4th best starter and if somebody offers you something real good you take that for a FA to be or you keep him and trade Maeda, if I am this FO I am keeping one and trading one of them if possible. But I understand I am in the minority of thinking Gray is vastly overrated.
  21. Why would you extend Ober when you have him locked though age 32 (4 more years after this year) Ryan is on the same track just about a year younger. Duran is locked up until he is 30, extending him might make some sense but you never know with relief pitchers. Currently Pablo, Ryan, Ober and Duran all become free agents prior to the 28 season. So they have a couple of years before they really need to make any decisions on extending or trading them. That is the magic of bringing your prospects up at a later age, you never really have to give them a big contract, you have control of them until after the age of 30.
  22. Update - Since his amazing April (4 - 0, .77 ERA) 14 starts 70 1/3 innings, 4.35 ERA, 5.41 innings per start, 0 wins. And the twins are 3 - 11 in his starts.
  23. Not really a fascination, but isn't this the second season on the 40 man? I mean you can't continue to keep guys on your 40 that aren't part of the future one way or another?
