  1. Great article as usual Nick! My position has been yes you need to see how the pipeline pitchers can do. However not all at once. Gray was a great move but we need one or two more like that to be realistic contenders. At this point it is baffling to have spent $35 mil on a great shortstop but not back it up with solid, reliable starting pitching. What's the point? It's the same philosophy of signing reclamation projects and hoping something works. We saw how it worked last year. Twins were very near the bottom in all of MLB in most meaningful pitching stats. I hope this works out but it is likely not. In that case we will be out of contention by early May like last year.
  2. Exciting to see the season starting Thursday or maybe Friday depending on the weather. Offense and defense look great. Gray is a solid starting pitcher addition. Other than that the rest of the starting staff is made up of reclamation projects again. Plus two young promising pitchers but very limited experience. I think if we had added one more reliable starter we could have perhaps won up to 90 games this year. But like last year this pitching staff will lose a lot of games for the Twins.
  3. Great article. Well written and thought out! I think this is the right move. Jeffers has more athleticism and much more potential. Time will tell. We certainly need more than a .199 average from him. I'm thinking .250-.275 would be great.
  4. Opening day is a big day and that is why most teams send out their top pitcher. The sellout crowd and festivities make it fun. Having said that I am happy for Ryan. I hope he does well. Our pitching staff is going to cost the team a lot of wins this year. I love Ryan's new haircut! Go Twins.
  5. None of those named with the possible exception of Garlick does much for me. Cave? Come on get serious. He doesn't belong on the 40 man at all. I agree with the guy that said Kirilloff should be the first baseman and Sano the DH. In any case this team will not contend with this pitching staff. The offense and defense will make for an interesting season but strong pitching is essential and we have way too many holes there.
  6. I'm sorry but comparing Buxton to Trout is ridiculous. It's so sad because he's hurt a lot. He needs to play a full season. To me at least 140 games and 500 plate appearances to see what he can do. Labeling him as one of the great center fielders is a slap on the face to players like Trout who are able to stay on the field (except last year) and produce year after year. These articles claiming Buxton to be a superstar are nearly moronic. A few good offensive months in a SEVEN year career does not make you great. Defensively yes absolutely. He is maybe the best. We will never know how great he may have been without all the injuries. Here's hoping he can have a great season in 2022 and beyond.
  7. Great article. I think that's the consensus of many Twins fans. I hope they do well but really doubt it as this FO keeps sending out reclamation projects to the pitching mound. They do this year after year and the results reflect their approach. Too many "ifs " but a new season is here. Go Twins!
  8. For all the cudos the front office received for signing Correa, they should get more slap downs for their continued missteps on the pitching staff, especially starters. The current staff is a joke and will in all likely hood be the downfall of the team thus making the Correa move not that great. It's been a very busy off season but not necessarily a good one. Only time and 90 losses will tell.
  9. Wow. Now we are attacking youth sports lol! The Twins could very well be out of contention by end of April, first part of May like last year. It's a shame to have so many good hitters and fielder's not backed up by major league pitchers. 35 million for a great one year shortstop? We could have signed a top pitcher or two during the pre- lockout time. I'm still trying to figure out what the teams roster philosophy is this year. We always go dumpster diving for old worn out and failed pitchers while waiting to the end. Strange philosophy.
  10. Great article as usual Nick. I agree that at some point he will probably be traded but I'm actually thinking it may be some sort of a come back year for him. Maybe 15-20 home runs and 60-75 RBI while playing solid right field. Too bad he can't pitch.
  11. I agree with the gentleman's rating of a c+. Perfect reasoning. Going into the season our pitching needed upgrading. The addition of Grey was good, the rest meh. Nothing moves the needle for me there. I love the Correa signing but Twins could have signed 2 or 3 free agent pitchers before the lockout began. To me, not being able to spend money for a good pitcher or two was poor planning. If you had monies to spend 35.million on one player they could have filled in at short for a year ( again) and got pitching. This pitching staff, as currently constructed does not make twins a contender. Reclamation projects (again) and inexperienced players. I was very excited after Correa signing that it signalled the twins making more moves to improve the starting staff. Signing Archer is rolling the dice (again). He's only pitched 19 innings last year and none in 2020. He has a history of arm and other troubles. I truly hope it all works out but FO only gets a c+ from me. I'm afraid that all of us that were excited to sign Correas ( including me) will be complaining when we realize he just used us for a year to get a better contract for himself.
  12. The biggest weakness the Twins had coming into spring training was lack of quality starting pitching. It still is the biggest weakness by far on this team!! The Archer signing does very little for me. Could work out but probably won't. We finished near the bottom in all of MLB in pitching last year. This does nothing to change that. The jury is still out on this team contending. This is not a major league pitching staff at the moment. It appears no more changes are coming before the start of the season. We appear to have good offense and defense but not much pitching, again! We spent 35 mil on a superstar shortstop. If this pitching staff is what we are left with, then the Correa signing is confusing and maybe a waste of resources. Unless of course the great Correa can pitch lol.
  13. Hope the move works out. I guess it's worth a try. But if thats all that we are going to add to the starting pitching staff we probably won't be in contention at all by the trading deadline. Archer may turn out ok. But it's just as likely to be another reclamation busy. The other day a national publication had the twins projected at 79-83 this year good for fourth place in central. This was after the Correa signing. I am guessing that is it for adding starting pitching. So the starting staff has 2 reclamation projects, two guys with a total of 25 ml games between them and likely a rookie. But we do have a 35 million dollar shortstop. Good luck! I really hope it works out, but not very likely.
  14. Great article!! Well thought out. I wish Correa could also pitch lol. Without some solid pitching I don't think we can contend. Great signing for the twins albeit likely just a one year deal to mainly enhance Correas bargaining power next year.
  15. I've been listening to the broadcasts on radio. The broadcasts are awesome. Provus and Gladden do a great job. It does give me relief from listening to the obnoxious Dick Bremer on tv. However, I am very upset that for the past several months we have had no access to watch the games on TV. Of course this includes all the local sports that BSN carries. Hello out there does anyone care?
  16. I can't imagine too many people looking at the starting staff consider it major league as is currently constructed. I keep hoping and waiting for one or two more quality starters to be added. Correa is a great addition if it is followed up with some major league pitchers, not all of them major league ready pitchers. To spend $35 million one on player without upgrading pitching seems foolhearty. Unless, of course Correa can pitch.
  17. Great to have a real superstar on the team. As far as it making them a contender I'm not so sure. Yes he makes them better assuming he puts up his normal numbers. I just can't see the Twins as legit contenders unless and until they add a veteran starter or two on the pitching staff. It was a stunning and exciting move by the Twins. Let's hope it all works out. The current team with it's inadequate pitching is probably not more than a 500 team certainly not a contender. If, however, we add quality to the pitching that could vault us into the playoffs.
  18. I hate the rule. It's a gimmick and a joke. Most of the people I talk to don't like it either. If the have to do something stupid like this at least start it like in the 11th or 12th inning.
  19. If this article doesn't show the sad state of affairs regarding the starting staff nothing does. Dobnak injury affecting starting staff? Get serious. With all the additions to other parts of the roster, we must assume FO will get a starter SOON. As currently constructed the starting staff is not major league proven with maybe one or two exceptions. If we somehow add a starter or two we will be solid contenders.
  20. Very well written article. I agree with all of your analysis on Sano. He definitely has been an up and down player. I can't see any way the Twins pick up his option after this year. But then again I can't see why any pitchers ever throw him a strike with the fastball. Breaking ball outside corner gets him nearly everytime.
  21. How about a what have you done for me lately comment? Where's the major league starting pitching staff? We need another starting pitcher or two to be competitive. I am confident they will add a quality starter soon. If not then what's the point of signing Correa? It's nice to see all the moves in an attempt to be a contender!! Let's keep it going!
  22. I realize Twins don't want to sell the farm, however with one of the best minor leagues in baseball it makes sense to trade from strength. We need quality starting pitching!! You can't get it without losing any assets unless you sign a FA. And those are pretty much done. It's going to cost some young " prospects " to acquire some. Use them. I am sure they have something coming. I must admit I was very skeptical but it appears I may have been a little hasty in my judgement of the FO. Let's wait and see how this all shakes out. I'm sure they didn't sign Correa with the intent of being a last place format. I love the prospect of being a contender.
  23. I can't believe that they won't make a trade for a decent starting pitcher. Spending that much money even if only for one year makes no sense unless you have major league pitching. They have made trades in the past to acquire prospects. It may be a good time to trade some prospects for reliable pitching. It appears I, like many others, was selling this FO short. It looks like there is a plan. Thank you. Must get another veteran starter. I am sure they will.
  24. Great signing Twins. Totally unexpected! Well done. We could have signed 2-3 starting pitchers for what they are paying him for one year. I'm hoping we still have something left to sign/ or trade/ to get more pitching. The twins overall pitching is suspect and except for a couple, is not a major league starting staff. Have to assume if they are paying Correa $35 million for likely one season they must be looking to improve the pitching staff. If not, what's the point? It is great though to finally make a significant signing.
  25. Very bold, interesting, and totally unexpected. We do need starting pitching. Hopefully we address that as well. For what they paid Correa they could have gotten two quality starting pitchers. If they add a starting pitcher or two they could actually contend. Nice.
