Very nice win while battling the rain. Lopez is a concern. He's supposed to be our ace but so far the mantra it's early and his advance metrics are good is ringing shallow. If we are to be successful we need him. Margot is now 0 for 19 pinch hitting yet we keep sending him out there . I'm concerned about jackson. Why is he on the roster. If we don't have anyone better than him in our system we are in a world of hurt. But a lot of positives. Correa is hot!!! Bottom line: just win baby.

Who Says No To The Athletic's Proposed Twins Trade For Alonso - I DO!
Whitey333 commented on LA Vikes Fan's blog entry in LA Vikes Fan
Absolutely no to this trade proposal. -
Interesting. The Twins are kind of in flux. They beat up and pad individual and team stats against some very bad baseball teams yet are lije 12 games below .500 against teams with winning records. Yes I agree the young prospects need to step up and show what they can do. But that is hard when Rocco usually only plays them half the time. Are these prospects as good as all the hype? Or is it mostly JUST hype? Its hard to know because they don't get enough playing time and situational playing. I think the Twins, even with several areas of weakness, will not do much if anything by the trade deadline.

Tough Decision Time for the Twins
Whitey333 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes. Farmer has run his course. It's time to move on. It's also nearing time for fi al decisions on players like Kiriloff Julien Wallner and others. If you have no future plans for players like these that have been hyped to the max even overhyped, then trade them to another team. This "process not results" philosophy surely isn't helping the team and definitely not the players. Calling these prospects up and then only play them part time does no one any good.- 77 replies

Lewis is so fun to watch. He just needs to stay healthy. I am much higher on him than I ever was on Buxton. Let's remember we are beating very poor bottom feeding teams. We have a terrible record against winning teams. Im glad they beat these cellar dwellars and beef up individual stats. But they are not good teams at all.

A Couple of Suitors Definitely Miss Carlos Correa Now
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Carlos has been good for the Twins. 200 million dollar good? That's still up for debate. He is on a very hot streak right now. It's great. But as all hot streaks go it will simmer and Carlos will return to reality as a good shortstop and good player. IMO a 3 week hitting binge, while great and well needed, against several bottom feeding teams tempers it to some degree. I don't think the Mets and Giants have any regrets nor should they. They saved a lot of money. The Twins have Correa and are happy.- 54 replies

Ice article. Well written and researched. Perhaps over researched. It seems to me it's simply a question of starting or relieving and what's best for the Twins and Varland. All the other data mentioned seems important only to Rocco and his ridiculous spreadsheets.

Nice comeback win against another bottom feeder. If we could just get major league baseball to revamp the playoffs so we could face these terrible teams we might go deep in the playoffs lol. If Lewis isn't hurt he should be playing. If he was available to pinch hit late last night he should have. Lewis needs to play! We won despite our manager. Rocco is a very poor manager.

Good article. Even greater responses from many of you posters. Very well researched by you all. Than̈ks for all the information. Count me in with the people that don't like the new analytical brand of baseball. It is boring and too antiseptic. It's smart to use analytics to aid your team. But Rocco overplays it way too much.

It's amazing how one blowout game against a lousy Colorado Rockies team sku things for so many. Yes they won. They should be walking all over teams like that. We are in the midst of another 13 game schedule of bottom feeders. Let's take advantage all weekend against Oakland. IMO one reason we do not have a better record is because we have a mediocre manager. He's permanently attached to his analytical spreadsheet and has very little feel for the game itself. Play Lewis everyday. It's time to dump Rocco and Falvey

How can the young players, prospects, be expected to perform well at the major league level when many times they are relegated to part time status with the Twins. They need to play regularly to develop. To have them play a bench role or a role in Roccos strict platoon system seems ridiculous. Perhaps Kirilloffs days as a Twin are numbered. Perhaps also that the team handles their playing g time very poorly. Perhaps also that many of these prospects are just not that good. Perhaps our scouting and development personnel needs to be looked into.

Correa is a very good shortstop. I think he's a little overrated at least when compared to what he is being paid. You don't get much for 35 million a year anymore. 200 million guaranteed. I don't think we have gotten value. I think he's a steady reliable fielder with only average to slightly above average performance. Bottom line is I'm glad he's on the Twins but I sure wish he would perform at the level he's getting paid for.

Just another example of analytics run amok. Lopez has not pitched well for most of the season. Anyone can SEE that. Good pitchers produce "good numbers" real or analytic. The only thing that I see is it reinforcing Baldelli theory of " we are interested in the process not the results" philosophy he has frequently mentioned. I totally expect Lopez to pitch a great game against the lowly Rockies. Then people will be singing his praises again. After all we SHOULD beat the lowly Rockies. Right?
-
Reading an analytical spreadsheet doesn't make you a good major league baseball manager. Being able to manage a game is vital. Rocco doesn't possess the skills apparently to do that. Pulling Varland after only 63 pitches and five innings because he may have to face batters a third time is just plain silly. If he was getting hit, even a little, it would be easy to understand. But he had the Rockies eating out of the palm of his hand. Wednesday day game is a MUST win. Lopez needs to come through. He has not pitched well most of the se9ason. He SHOULD be able to beat the cellar dwellers. This Rockies team is every bit as bad as the White Sox team.

Blah blah game against a very blah blah team. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they won. It's great they beat a team they should beat. Lewis is awesome. Like a previous poster said if only he can play a full season like that. I couldn't help but people talking the same thing about Byron Buxton. Yes only played one full season in 2017. I sure hope Lewis injuries are over. He seems to give the team energy. Go Twins.
-
Yes and if the 4 blind mice otherwise known as the umpires hadn't missed the obvious foul ball off the bat of Buxton, twins would only had 2 runs and not 3. Glad they won but not overly impressed. But with the "easy" home schedule this week we should win most if not all of them. But I say should because of the Jeckyl and Hyde nature of this team. My guess is by Father's Day we may have them penciled in for the World Series again.

It is ok to blame Baldelli to some degree. He's the one that sees the tone. He makes the lineup. This team is lifeless most of the time. They are 8 games below 500 against winning teams. Now with a relatively healthy lineup they can't blame injuries for losing. They've turned to blaming the umpires. Yes they should win against the rockies, a's at home this week. I'm just not impressed with Baldelli as a manager and this FO .

Pretty pathetic performance. We have now gone scoreless in 22 straight innings. We have a lifeless team with only minimal leadership by the veterans. We still have a manager that is obsessed with analytics and shows very little ability to manage a team and a game. My God he still sends out Margot to pinch hit. Sometimes in very key situations. Does his analytic chart tell him that Margot is 0 for 17 pin h hitting this year? Yet he keeps sending him out there to pinch hit for lefties. He says Kiriloff can't hit lefties. We'll right now he can't hit right handers either. He's only had 8 at bats against lefties so hiw do you judge him or Larnach if they are pinch hit by someone that is 0 for 17? They should get squared around this week as we face the lowly Rockues and As at home. Then like the 12 game winning streak we had they will tell us how good they are. IMO they are about as good as the 14-18 record they own since the 12 game winning streak.

I would probably go with Ryan. With the constant platooning of many twins players making them essentially part timers it's hard to build up stats. Correa has been good but certainly not great, more pedestrian. Jeffers is very streaky and only plays half the games. Hardly worthy of an all star selection much less start. He would need to get very hot plus Rocco would have to let him play more. Not likely to happen.

Yes the home plate umpiring is bad. But it's bad all over not just the Twins. What's worse is constantly whining about it Ala Kris Atterberry on the radio broadcasts. His constant blaming the Twins woes on the umpiring is so childish and typical of the losers lament when not finding actual reasons for poor play. He conveniently forgets or ignores the times when Twins pitchers get bad calls in their benefit. It's OK to mention it once in a while but not nearly every inning. Go Twins.

Yankees 8, Twins 5: Walks Will Haunt, Twins Swept
Whitey333 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That's why amongst many other reasons I don't like Rocco. Resting Lewis after 2 days! 2 days in which he hit home runs. I'm sure the previous 58 days he didn't face major league pitching must have worn him out. It was a terrible starting lineup. Plus add in another terrible performance by the 18 million per year Lopez and you have bad results. Plus we keep sending up that great pinch hitter Margo who the Yankee broadcasters happily mention he is 0 for 16 in theses last pinch hitting stints. Rocco is too stubborn to incorporate any actual baseball managing with his analytical show. One of the absolute worst managers the Twins have ever had.- 48 replies

Where the Twins stand after (about) 60 games
Whitey333 replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I think k the Twins are an above average team not a great or good team. They must improve against teams above 500. The season isn't young anymore. I think we will be competitive all year buy it's also possible they won't even make the playoffs.- 42 replies

Yes the "Buxton era" is a myth and is over. It's unfortunate but it's true. He's only been a part time player for nearly all of his career. The limited flashes of greatness are diminished. Ive never been a Buxton fan and I'm still not. I truly feel sorry for him due to the injuries. We never knew if his potential was true or over hyped. The fact that he was able to finagle a 100 million dollar contract from the Twins is pure genius on his part. Unfortunately all he is and has been doing is hurting the development of someone who could perhaps play regularly. Yes he will still have a game where he may hit two Homer's and then all they will keep telling us how great he is. Then the nex 2 for 20 with 10 strikeouts will come up. Somehow it's time to move on from Byron Buxton.
