    The Buxton time with the Twins has mostly been a bust. Too many injuries, too much time on the disabled list, too much hype, too little results. He shows streaks of greatness but more streaks of average or mediocre play. I really hope he'd healthy this year and plays well. But all he has proven over 10 years is you can't count on him. Falvey? He's ok. UT a poor manager of payroll. The Twins have a history of highest payroll in central division in recent years. Yet they have missed the playoffs 3 of the past 4 years. There appears to be little accountability for Falvey and Rocco.

    I'm not a Pohlad fan either but I've always said since the Falvey years that the Twins spend fine. But how they allocate the payroll dollars has always been questionable at best. I think in most cases teams would hold Falvey and Rocco more accountable. I think the bigger problem is the front office not necessarily the ownership. Sure you sign players like Correa, Buxton, Lopez to big contracts knowing the budget. Then they have to dumpster dive for players. That is the fault of Falvey et al.

    Yes i agree. There are too many "ifs" on this team. And I think they need to start off strong this year to at least take some of the sting out of last years choke job. A bad start could be disastrous to the team. Go Twins!

    Interesting thoughts. I think the trade is a wash at best. Texas won a world series so good for them. You mention the Twins in their "winning window." What winning windows? They have missed the playoffs 3 of the past 4 years. Last year they choked away their chances.

    A lot of questions in the pitching depth. We seem to have a solid 3 or 4 starting pitchers. Trading any of them seems foolish especially since the younger pitchers still have a lot to prove. The team is very poor defensively and doesn't steal, bunt, or even run the bases efficiently. They have a lot to prove this year. For all the hype about this team let's not forget they have missed the playoffs 3 of the past 4 years. IMO this year, more than ever, they need to have a very good April and May to take away some of the bad taste left behind.

    Like your predictions. Great if the good ones come through. My "prediction" is the Twins are just an average team with many question marks. 95 win seaso? Possible but nit likely. I believe the Twins miss the playoffs again. Then it will be three of the past four seasons as I think now they have missed playoffs on two of past three seasons. Or is it three of your? Anyway they will again tell us how great Falvey and Baldelli are after blowing it yet again.

    I'm not a huge fan of the Pohlads. But we at least had some stability in knowing the Tram would remain here. Minus one contraction attempt of course lol. I hope they sell and we get new owners. But be wary of some of this. We could wind up with an owner like the Marlins. They currently have a payroll around $50 million or so. IMO the bigger problem has been the distribution of the payroll dollars. Too many dollars tied up into too few players. They are only slightly below average in payroll dollars in the major leagues. Yes I would love to have a new owner come in and throw money around. But it's not likely to happen. Payroll this year looks to be around 140-145 million. That should be enough to be competitive provided it's spent wisely. It hasn't been in a lot of cases.

    Very surprising development but at the same time not. I'm sure these types of deals are complicated and take time and many twists. I've never quite understood all the negativity around Glen Taylor. He bought the team when it was ready to leave town. He's been stable influence on the team. I realize he has had his negativity. I would question his age somewhat. Does he have the drive to own the Twins? Anyway I'm sure tge Twins will have an owner. Who knows it may even be the Pohlads.

    Great article. Great analysis. To be honest I couldn't agree with you more. There's still no guarantees that France even makes the team. After all he signed a contract that is not guaranteed. That in itself is very strange. Plus, Lee Miranda, Julien, and others need to prove they belong in the majors. This could be one of the worst defenses in the league. Let's hope not.

    Interesting article. I'm of the ill believe it when I see it crowd. Baldelli is too entrenched in his analytics and platooning. The platooning is understandable but he takes it way too far. And it's just possible he has ruined any chances for extended careers with Larnach and Wallner by only playing them part time. How do you expect them to get better against lefties if they aren't given any opportunities? I would think many of our young core players are not happy with playing part time.

    I sometimes think players, as well as managers, coaches, and media are over worked and over played with analytics. It seems that instead of worrying so much about spin rates, velocity, etc they should pitch to their strengths that got them to the big leagues. It's OK to use some of the analytical stats but let's not overdue it. I think in most cases if they pitched to the degree that got them to this point they would be better off.

    Wallner getting platooned and pinch hit for when facing lefties comes with a double edge sword. Yes hecstruggles with it but I believe he only had like 18 or so at bats against lefties all year. So how do you improve when you are not given a chance?

    Let's just wait and see how this all shakes out. The three recently signed players do not move the needle much. France doesn't even have a guaranteed contract. Makes me believe he is just an insurance policy for Miranda or others. I'm thinking he's not even here when the season starts. Just more dumpster diving.

    We sure could use a healthy Duran. When he's at his best he is very dominating. Last year he took 9 losses plus blew many save opportunities. 9 losses for a "closer" is disastrous. As hard as he throws I sure hope he can stay healthy. We need him if we are going to be serious contenders. Go Twins!!

    It's crazy. It's insane. It's the new wave of analytic bs that is ruining the game. Bottom like is Buxton and Lewis have not nearly lived up to their hype. It's time for both to put up or shut up. They both need to play full time for a full season and produce at or near their expectations or move on from both of them.

    Many times I've heard the Twins say "stick to the plan" and it's the process not the results that are important. They have missed the playoffs 3 of the past 4 seasons in perhaps one of the weakest divisions in baseball. IMO one of the faults of the manager is the unwillingness or inability to make appropriate in game adjustments and decisions. It's analytics gone wild!

    The Twins play boring and predictable ball under Rocco. They don't steal,they run the bases like the three stooges, and play very poor defense. Rovcos platooning and stupidity when resting more than one star player at a time at home especially is aggravating. Plus it shows lunacy. I can't think of any other major league team that would hire him to be manager if the Twins let him go. He brings very little to the table.

    Nice article. We'll done. I agree with your analysis! I think the success of tge season, or lack thereof, will depend a lot on the young players that proved last year that they either aren't ready to contribute or simply not good enough to contribute. Signing Bader may prove to be another waste of resources.

    Paddock is in a perfect place for him. The Twins are well known for acquiring oft injured pitchers. Who would want Paddock? Why? They may have a very hard time finding a taker. Not even the Marlins.

    Well I'm glad they added a couple of players finally but they are very marginal indeed. Although they just spent $10 million on free agents (chump change in the scheme of things) they are very likely going to wind up dumping that amount and probably more through trades upcoming. They still have a chance to move the needle buy it hasn't moved yet.

    Interesting move. Always seem to be trying to find someone to cover for Buxton. Maybe it's just time to dump Buxton instead of always having to use a roster spot for his backup.

    I see where MLB.com is now ranking the Twins bullpen best in the majors. Interesting but in my view not close. The same thing was said about it last year. They did go on to lead the major leagues with the worst record of letting inherited runners score. And it wasn't close. A bullpen is supposed to put out fires not pour gas on them and make it worse. Certainly not one projected to be the best in 2024. I learned long ago to not believe the hype. It's way overblown

    Pretty typical Twins move involving pitchers. Acquire a pitcher with injuries. He had bone chips from his elbow removed last year. Why not try?

    Very good comments. Well thought out and thought provoking. The highest payroll in the division has always been interesting. My contention is it's not the total payroll dollars, but how those dollars are allocated. Spending half of your payroll on 3 players doesn't leave much room for improvements. Also the notion that the Twins have the best bullpen in baseball is sheer nonsense. Last year they led all of baseball in inherited runners scoring. Meaning they couldn't put out the fire. Isn't that what a good bullpen is for. Keep in mind this team has missed the playoffs 3 of past 4 years during a so called open window.

    Great article. Well thought out and written. Just another filler article to take up space. It just indicates how nothing the Twins off season is. Just write about things we know aren't going to happen.
