Yes indeed here we go again. Their announcement about not further reducing payroll rings hollow. I would n I t be at all surprised to see them at least try to move Lopez. Also Correa and Buxton have no trade clauses but those things have been bought out in the past to move a player. I don't think Buxton is going anywhere. Why would any team want to pay an undependable part time player 15 million per year. Correa? Very good player but there's questions about him as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he asks to get out. There will probably be several changes in personnel most of them will be deleting high salary.

Grading the 2024 Minnesota Twins: Hitters
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with your grades for everyone but perhaps Buxton is graded a little to high for my tastes. Anyway as I go through all the young players that are on the list it causes me to wonder if they aren't as good as they were panned out to be. For this year anyway just a lot of disappointments there. Hopefully they will all improve next year. Just because they played for the Twins or are on their roster doesn't make them a major league wallpaper. Good article.- 73 replies

After nearly 60 years of following Twins baseball this one has been the most frustrating and I might add, demoralizing. Perhaps part of the reason is it's so fresh and current. But the truth is this group of "professional athletes" was awful. Great expectations and the players playing like they don't care. The organization is at a very low point in it's relationship with its fans. I'm not a fan of just firing managers but for Joe Pohlad to back Baldelli and the front office is a huge slap in the face to fans. He provides no leadership and his insistence on a strict adherence to analytics and it's playback was almost laughable at times. Analytics are fine but nothing wrong with good old common sense baseball decision making mixed in. Pohlads endorsement of Baldelli and Falvey rings hollow. To endorse someone that presides over some of the most despicable baseball over players that performed for 2 months as if they couldn't wait for the season to end is inexcusable. The excuses have already started. That's Twins baseball. Expect more of the same next year.

More lip service from ownership. They just shrug off the inept play and then get upset that more fans aren't showing up. We've been lied to and otherwise misled for the past several years. Like Baldelli and Falvey dodging questions, making excuses, and somehow shrugging their shoulders during this EPIC COLLAPSE. They were not just losses. Most of them were embarrassing losses. How they can condone sloppy listless non caring play is inexcusable. Obviously the Twins Way is ancient history. The new Twins way is poor baseball, terrible public relations, and a team that has no fire, or discipline. I just wish they really did care about the fans.

Orioles 6, Twins 2: One Last Sunny Sunday
Whitey333 replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another listless game from a totally checked out Twins game. I went to the games Saturday and Sunday and the Twins were awful. They've been awful for weeks and the organization did nothing to try to make them look better. They turned out to be an embarrassment. And the worst part is they didn't seem to care. We did get the expected lip service from the owner and front office. If they run back pretty much the same team and team philosophy we will have the same results. Guys with no energy or desire to play. No sense of urgency. No sense of caring. No offense, no defense, no basestealing, no manager that has common sense. Do I think they should have fired Baldelli and Falvey? I don't know why they even want to be here. They act like they don't want to be. Will the organization take responsibility for the garbage play on the field the last two months? Probably. They will replace the batboys and call it a day. Sheesh.- 18 replies

Max Kepler Deserves a Minnesota Goodbye
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins maybe could have done something nice for Kepler. But no one has accused this organization of having any class. They don't stay with their players very often once they get too expensive. Yes the did so for some reason with Buxton by giving him. truly a part time, now very athletically limited wallpaper a 100 million dollar deal. It was a great deal for Buxton. But IMO they don't show much loyalty to wallpapers. Way too much turnover each year. Way too many new faces that have proven they can't handle MLB. It hard to embrace a team that is made up of 26 players. Many of whom have shown they don't want to play. There should be major changes coming in players, and coaches management and Front Office. What we may very well get is generally a let's explain why we blew it, make excuses, and do the same thing next year. That is unacceptable. -
Full no trade contracts mean very little. They can easily be bought out. I hope we keep Lopez but I have to admit that all options should be open this off season. I would expect payroll to decline again next year. Kind of shows some very poor planning. Like why sign Correa and Buxton and Lopez to long term expensive deals if right sizing was going to be in the cards. We found out a lot of the young "prospects" aren't ready and may never be ready for MLB. Interesting off season ahead. Before that we will receive the normal laundry list of excuses from the Twins organization for the epic collapse. The soft soap has already begun. Ins

Twins 2, Orioles 7: Stick a Fork in Them
Whitey333 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Typical Twins game the past month and a half. No heart, no desire, no discipline, no fire, no sense of urgency, no offense, no defense, no pitching, and no manager. This team and organization is a fraud.- 134 replies

For the first time in 60 years I'm at a loss for words regarding my Twins. I didnt think they would stoop so low as to not even show up to play the past 6 or 7weeks. It's really disgraceful.

Twins attendance has been pretty consistent over the last several years. 1.8 to 2.0 million per year is pretty normal here. I think for all the negative aspects of the Twins I'm surprised it isn't lower. The Twins brought this on themselves and then blame the fans. Not very professional or classy. I can only follow them on radio. It gets old and stale listening to Kris Atteberry gush over Correa and Buxton making routine plays . I still love my Twins but admit not as much as I used to. To me they play lifeless, listless, undisciplined and very boring baseball and have for quite some time.

Make It Official! Twins 8, Marlins 3: Not Dead Yet
Whitey333 replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Look, I'm glad they won. It was needed. I'm not overly excited. They beat a very bad team one day after not even showing up to play. Probably would have lost if playing a good team. Our great leaders, Correa and Buxton got some hits and RBIs after each getting doubled off in base running gaffes. Twins have everything near perfect set up for them. Playing the 100 loss Marlins, then hosting the Orioles who have now stated they won't be starting their best two pitchers and will rest some of their starters. It's soʻ sad that they put themselves in this situation. If they somehow sneak into the playoffs I don't see how they can have any quality starting pitchers available for the playoffs. They don't belong in the playoffs. They don't deserve it.- 39 replies

Yes Rocco is the manager of the team. And although it's true he is not on the playing field in these losses. However he is the man that puts them out there. He determines where they play and where they bat in the lineup. He is supposed to set the tone. They aren't listening. There needs to be some accountability. There currently is none.

Red Sox 8&9, Twins 1&2: Twins Playoff Hopes Floundering
Whitey333 commented on C-Gangster's blog entry in March To October
Great article. Well written. -
That was about the biggest bunch of gobbled goop I've ever read. A great example of baseball insistence on over analyzing everything. Well nevermind!

Interesting article but I don't buy it. Rocco is not a major league manager. He may be a good spreadsheet person and a yes man for Falvey but he appears to have no in game management savvy. Pulling Matthew's MAY be questionable but putting in Irvin in that situation was just one of many strange moves all summer. The person writing this article did a great job of research and bringing up his views. Ɓut all it appeared to be was a public relations promotion regarding Roccos managing skills.

The Twins should have moved on from Buxton a couple of years ago. He's totally undependable. I feel sorry for him for all the injuries. We never got to see much of him regularly. Yes at times he shows flashes of brilliance but always refle to his mediocre career batting average of .245. He's probably the most over-rated and over- hyped Twins player in recent memory. It's amazing that people consider him the face of the franchise and he's only a part time player. Truth is he just clogs up the roster with his never ending trips to the il. Ns

Just another loss in an absolutely terrible display of baseball over the past 6 weeks or so. I believe they are 11 and 22 in their last 33 games. Pretty pathetic. And they are losing so badly. Twins problems seem simple enough: no offense, no defense, no manager, and very little pitching. The choke continues.

The Twins are a train wreck and have been for quite some time. If we miss the playoffs the FO and manager need to go. Falvey and Rocco need to go nk matter what. Put players at their best position and keep them there. Quit moving them around everyday. Try to maintain a steadier lineup. Don't expect players to bunt if they don't know how. Not knowing how to bunt and stealing bases is a direct result of poor management. Truth is this Twins team has been quite boring to watch for the past 3-4 years. Yes and all ww hear is excuses about the Twins. The radio announcers have it down. We are told daily it's bad umpiring, bad field conditions when on the road, bad luck, etc. Could it be these players aren't as good as they are hyped to be? Could we maybe get a major league manager?

A Postmortem on the Twins Trade Deadline
Whitey333 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great article. I'm worried that next year could be disastrous. I'm hoping not. But with Lopez salary bumping to 22 million next added to correct 36 million and Buxtons 17 million that doesn't leave much to build the roster. The future of many of our prospects is very unproven. They don't seem to be developing, probably regressing. I'm basically talking about players currently on the roster or close to it. Management's insistence on going full board analytics and platooning has not helped the young players careers. They need to play and play regularly whether it's against lefties or right handers. Players like that need to play fulltime to see what they can do. All most of our current twins prospects play mostly part time. This begs a future issue. Why would a young player want to sign with the Twins knowing they likely will be relegated to part time status? -
Nice win Twins. Glad to see everyone now thinks we are going to the world series. Amazing what one win will do. Even though they have one of the worst won/lost records in baseball the past three weeks they will probably make the playoffs. But the final weekend could be interesting to follow as the Twins play the Orioles, the Royals play the braves and Tigers play the White Sox. Go Twins!!
