  1. Other targets might make more sense, but if the Dbacks would take marginal prospects back and the Twins take the whole salary it might be doable, otherwise Orderizzi and a marginal prospect or two makes sense. Do not think Yankees would give as much value as that, at least without unloading Gray first(which Twins should also kick the tires on). If Dbacks decide to go total rebuild Twins are probably out of the Greinke sweepstakes.
  2. Herrera is the only name on this list I would want. Kelly is possible, but to this date at age 31 has not put it together and might want more money than the profile would warrant. The Japanese starter will have too many suiters and will command more money than he is probably worth, if you could get him at a reasonable rate go for it. Looking more for the trade market for starters. Would call Arizona and see what they want for Greinke, if we were even in the ballpark. If Arizona is looking for full talent and taking all the contract, I would pass, but contract is doable if Twins only send marginal prospects back, or slightly better prospects if Arizona keep about $10 million a year for the contract.
  3. Any of the guys would have high risk. But maybe it is time we took some. Prefer Donaldson, but either (and not both) would be a good start. Twins have the ability to take on Santana's salary, and give only a low level prospect in return. This is more a salary relief(clear a spot) play for Philly. Think he could be gotten cheaply. By the time it will make a payroll deference he will be gone.
  4. Agree that this system is deep and getting deeper. Maybe time for the FO to start bundling some suspects to gain some major league talent from the rebuilders.
  5. It is not known how good Tulo would be given his injuries, so I would pass. Donaldson, I could see, even 3/75 would not break the bank. I do like that he is not a big strikeout guy, Twins have a number of those.
  6. Pitching, Pitching, Pitching. Along with a big bat for either 1B or DH. Twins need to move fast on this front. Waiting has 2 bad sides: 1. They will not get players near the top of the pile. 2. It will encourage the White Sox to move up their plans as both the Twins and the Indians may look beatable. White Sox have a top 5 farm system, with plenty of money to spend. Not a good combination if you wait to let the market come to you.
  7. Agree, need at least 2 from the better relievers pile to have a chance to greatly improve this season.
  8. I know this was a semi joke. I do agree Twins need to spend major money on pitching to get to the next level.
  9. Think Stewart and Arraez are too low and Gonsalves is way too high. Great list.
  10. Prospects still have high value if you are not a club with almost unlimited funds. Twins issue seems to be moving the needle from prospect to (superstar or very good player). Look at the Red Sox. THey have a high payroll, but still have plenty of home grown talent there. That is what the Twins are lacking is getting the players to the next level. It may take a complete overhaul of the Twins minor league system and coaching to do that. Moving a player like Kepler would hurt, but you do not get very good talent in return without giving something that hurts up. The FO just has to be right. What I am seeing now is players doing better after leaving the Twins then they did here. That did not happen much in the Terry Ryan era. Do not know how the Twins position players will work out, but they have a chance to have a very good to great lineup, however I do know you will not win without a considerly better pitching staff, and I see good, but not great pitchers coming (maybe with the exception of Gastrol). Twins also have an almost blank payroll sheet after 2019, they can afford to make trades and signings to greatly improve this area (and not all will work, but Twins will fail if they do not try). I am hoping they stretch a little and go for the upper parts of the pitching Free Agents, not the middle and lower tier. If they do not I am afraid we are back to the Terry Ryan era of being competitive, but not being a real threat to win the World Series.
  11. I am more on addressing the bullpen and adding a free agent SP or 2. Do not think the position players need a lot more, and many of them will be overvalued. Maybe at the end of FA if someone (like Morrison) has fallen in the middle infield, by all means go for it.
  12. Drake surprised me. Did not think Fields would be here next year and with the Reed signing Fields was gone. I am much more concerned with Drake (also the club that signed him). Am beginning to wonder if the new FO is in over their head. We shall see what the offseason will bring, but I do feel without improvement or a sense of direction(both I feel are lacking at this time) the pitchforks will start coming out.
  13. I would keep Vasquez over Moya (Moya is more like an AAAA pitcher to me). May not sign the couple of players you selected, Adams is sort of meh. Might prefer Solarte to Descalso just because our lineup was so lefthanded last year. I would give Austin a change to sink or swim to start the year, with either Rooker or Sano able to play there if he fails. Granite could well be released if he does not have options left and I feel that Wade is better than him and Kirloff will probably be here sometime in 2020.
  14. Moya to me is a AAAA type player, and I could see Vasquez up and signing one of the very good LH relievers. Twins need 2 very good relievers to get to the next level, plus a SP and maybe a 2B, 1B among others.
  15. I feel this is the wrong approach. Cleveland is far from a super team. There is no fall back plan if Buxton struggles or fails. A couple of upper level bullpen pieces and a short term FA at 2nd base or maybe Arraenz should be close without breaking the bank for the future.
  16. Some of these may be people Molitor picked and the FO let him have. If that was the case, no suprises here. Outside of Alston, most of those coaches had been here awhile. Pickler may be moved to the office so only the pre FO coaches will have been moved (outside of Alston). Maybe Pressly's comments had more effect than we knew. :shoot:
  17. No surprises here, doubt either will be back. ESan may be through, Morrison will probably get a minor league contract with an invite. Long fall for these fellows.
  18. Arraez can flat out hit, I believe he is average to average plus on defense. Major leagues can always use players like that. I would like to give him a chance.
  19. I would keep Grossman, without Mauer Twins need OB type, but a non-tender could be reasonable. Would prefer Herrera (younger), and maybe Miller or Britton. Bullpen needs major work and I do not see the Twins signing a starter (though Corbin or Ryu would be nice). Second base or SS I would look to trading some of our depth pieces for a better and maybe cheaper player. Lowrie is too likely to stay in Oakland, but other pieces might help (maybe Castro from the Marlins).
  20. Again depends, I might try to trade a couple of the upper level players who would probably be lost for a couple of equal types who do not have to be protected. Who I would add after the givins: Arranz - he may be more ready than Gordon and could give us a year or two, sometime these guys work out. Jay would depend on if he could recover his stuff, if not he is a lost cause or just a LOOGY. Anderson - too good a chance he will be taken Davis and Lujan I do not know enough about or have a feel for if they would be taken. Would not suprise me either way and the Twins should have enough open slots to add 5 - 6 players, but some may well be left vacant for free agent signings. This is what will make this offseason so interesting. Rooker will probably be better than Weil so would not add him. Wade will be added, but hope he will be traded, how many outfielders do we need, and do not rate him likely to make the club next year.
  21. I expect the coaching staff has already been told. It will be announced today or tommorrow. At least for those being let go. Expect a busy transaction day.
  22. Good hire, FO now owns this, so will see if he is the manager who gets the most out of his talent.
  23. Maybe it was the number of years the Twins offered. I am guessing only 2 as by the third year there will be a glut of MI here. Still think Escobar could have gotten more elsewhere. Maybe he was sold on the take less and help a competitve team concept.
  24. Players develop at their own rate, and some fail. To those of you who are impatient, I would love to be an opposing GM (like in a fantasy league) who could get a decent player for very little by waiting out the impatient GM. Aaron Hicks is the poster child for this type of player. He played his way into the doghouse and was traded for a player of much less upside and value. I put much of this on the coaches the Twins have had and the inability to bring out the best in players. It can be done, we just have to find the correct coaches to help. Buxton and Sano have to be given every opportunity to succeed, if they fail then he have the problem of what to do with them. The biggest difference I have seen in the playoffs, is the pitching is much better, whether it be starting for some clubs or the bullpen for others, or in the case of Houston some of both.
