  1. Twins will probably need a starter. Cahill will probably cost too much, but worth a look. Heard Moore's velcosity is down, but would check on his price. If cheap enough, jump on it.
  2. I am in the make minor moves group. Selling would be a horrible message to the young core and give them a reason not to stay here.
  3. Enlow is the type of pitcher who could move up fast, depending on fastball control. Good to see him get started.
  4. Actually Britton might be less expensive than Brach, money plus control
  5. I am more for trading Polanco or Escobar and bringing Gordon up. He has more upside than any of the other two.
  6. I am in the boat of being both buyers and sellers depending on where Twins are in the next two weeks and how players perform. Unless Twins fold in the next two weeks trading Santana as much as this board likes the idea is off the board. Polanco is at an all time low in value, but him and a mid level prospect could fetch something. Dozier will not bring back a major piece, but Polanco could be of interest with a prospect for a starting pitching from TB. They seem to have more depth there than most teams. If the Twins fall apart Santana could be dealt to the Yankees as they have a deep farm system(as does Boston) that could pick up a major prospect or two. More likely Twins add a bullpen piece or two and call it good.
  7. No Curtis and Reed have not been up yet, Bard is also a possibility
  8. I also feel the Twins should actively market some mid level unneeded prospects to some of the orgainizations under penalty for their bonus pool money and use it to improve the depth and upside of the farm system.
  9. Tonkin is your classic AAAA pitcher, just not quite good enough, but great as a depth/AAA closer. Need to move up some of the Chatanooga relievers to at least AAA and see what they have. We have some definite openings at the major league level.
  10. As I understand it Jorge was the 26th man and went back to AA. Any promotion to AAA would come from there.
  11. Think we might get to a WC game. More than that would be a surprise, but Cleveland could have one or two starting pitching injuries or hitting could implode and they could fall down. Do not see trading much of the upper level farm talent on a short term fix. Could see trading Polanco as part of a package for Gray or Archer(since both of those clubs value cheap decent players with control). Would not trade Gordon as he has too much upside, would actually bring him up, when Twins clear a spot with a trade before the deadline.
  12. Vargas is still a power bat and homerun threat off the bench. He is the only one the Twins have at this time. If the Twins fall out of contention, Granite could probably come up in the wave of players Twins need to take a look at, do not think it will happen sooner.
  13. I agree that Belisle should be DFA'ed. We need to find out this year which relievers can get the job done and which relievers need to go. You do not want to have inexperienced relief pitching in critical roles when this team figures to compete(starting next year). This year has been fun, let's get some value out of it.
  14. Good for him if this actually happens. Looking forward to seeing Jorge on TV. Anyone know which game he will pitch in?
  15. Santiago's 2018 salary + Gibson's 2018 would make one very good pitcher, if signed for about $16 million a year. Gibson should get about $5 million and Santiago should be able to get at least 10-13 million a year for 3 years. That is the price of starting pitching now. I would rather let both walk and sign 1 very good pitcher for the combination money, than to keep 2 OK or less starting pitchers. Gibson is a fine pitcher at cheap value, if you are not a contending club. Otherwise your starting pitching needs to be better(even if you do not ever plan on Gibson starting a playoff game).
  16. We have high standards here at TD, and quick pitchforks and tar.
  17. You never pick a date I can make. Maybe some year if I live that long.
  18. It seems clear from what I read today, the McKay had already decided to he wanted to go to Tampa Bay. So his advisors put out the story, he would not deal on slot value. This did not suit the first 3 teams, so not unexpectedlly they all passed. System can still be gamed if the player takes the risk and makes it difficult to deal with for other teams. This issue needs to be fixed in the next collective bargining agreement, and feel the the MLB players will try and reduce the money to the newbies. It happens in all the other sports the first contract is very team friendly.
  19. Draft to me is based on 2 people. Whether Lewis will hit enough to fulfil his potential and whether Enlow can become a #1 or #2 starting pitcher. If these happen, Leach would only have to be a #3 to make this a really great draft. Enlow could reach here in 2019 - 2020 time frame and that would be a big plus(I believe Blylevan got here at 19). Rest of top side of draft could take longer to develop, but it will take 3-4 years to totally evaluate this draft. And I believe best case is Rooker could be here end of 2018 or even in midseason. We shall all see.
  20. Santana is a #3 usually and Berrios has an upside of a #2. We still need that ace, rest can be filled out by farm system. I am OK if Pohlad spends the money this winter to fix the bullpen(short term) and get us that ace or very good #2 starter. Just would be anti-Twins to do this.
  21. This is a draft that has a lot of us mystified. Maybe the new FO has a theory that drafting pitchers high is a crap shoot and that the best position players(Cubs have used this strategy since Epstein took over). 2. Pohlad has agreed to buy FA pitchers as Twins will need them sooner or later 3. Position players are weaker in the Twins farm system and maybe some of the outfielders and a couple of prospects will be traded for pitching help with some of these their replacements(most will arrive about the time current crop leaves). 4. Twins may only see the money to sign 1 - 2 of their current young players(Sano for sure, hopefully), so use this last chance to upgrade position players for the future. We do not know the plan, but will reserve judgement until after this offseason and see if the checkbook opens for significant pitching reinforcements.
  22. I am talking FA pitching of #1 or #2 starters. Sorry if that was not clear.
  23. Maybe Pohlad has promised to buy the pitching needed. Is that possible?
