  1. A lot of us are high on Graterol and Enlow. One or both could well be here in 2021(I would hope). That is a little more than a level a year(assuming they both start in CR this year). I believe Enlow could well be in CR this year, maybe Graterol also. Some of the mid level ones could disappoint, it would be expected that some will fail. I am more worried about Gonsalves and Little than the others, but there still is a market for pitchers who can pitch and locate. Exciting time to be a Twins fan.
  2. Saw on MLB traderumors the Twins have inquired on Chris Tillman. Please put this one to bed and say NO!
  3. Welcome! I see things a bit differently than you, but that is what a forum is for. As long as we keep Sano and need a place for Rooker to play, do not see a place for Mauer here in 2019. I feel he may already know this and that is one of the reasons his brother and the Twins best minor league manager left the organization. This could change if Sano gets into more trouble or Rooker does not move as fast as hoped. Too many flags for his being resigned here. He could finish his career elsewhere, but non-power 1B are not an easy fit, especially on a contending team. I only see two options, he takes a small contract for a part time role here (3- 5 million a year ) or he retires. Sorry to say this, I like Joe, but baseball is a business and I just do not see a big role for him here next year.
  4. Plan B. Sign Arreita or make a trade. Lynn is not a fit here and Cobb is a #2/#3 type which will not move the needle much. I preferred Chatwood to any of Lynn or Cobb. That ship has sailed, so Twins will need to make a good move or just wait with what they have until 2019. Grenke might be a good try depending on how many prospects the DBacks want against how much contract the Twins take. If the Twins take most of the contract will the DBacks only take a couple of lottery tickets. I would make the call and they wait it out. DBacks have to move soon on Martinez, so they may be motivated to deal.
  5. Rooker and Enlow might have made the top 20 for me. They would certainly have more trade value in my mind than a Duffey at this time.
  6. I believe I have read on other Twins related websites (or maybe this one) that it was well known in Chattanooga to keep Sano away from female personnel. This was not portrayed as a one time incident. At the major league level away from the park and the team an individual has much more freedom, and I assume many more chances to meet females. At Sano's level a great number of them would be more willing and out of public view there is a much less chance of anything being reported, even if Sano was in the wrong as long as it did not go to rape. There is a problem here and now the Twins have to address it.
  7. I think the basis of this article is trade value, if you went to trade for Archer, the first name they would want in return would be Lewis, not Berrios. Lewis will probably be here in 2019 and should be here in 2020 with 6 years of control. That has very high value to clubs trading high value assets to a club that is playing for the short to intermediate run of contention. Lewis I believe is already close to 30 in the top 100 prospects and with another great year will probably make the top 10. All this has a great deal of trade value.
  8. Sano has created the problem for himself and now he has to work his way out of it. Unfortunately it may not be here, as I could see him forcing his way out of town by continued erratic behavior. I hope not, but there is only so much a team can take. Better bet would be to find a veteran he might listen to and have him on this club as a mentor for a year or two until he figures it out. Sometimes however the person in question never figures it out until they have wasted all the talent and chances they had.
  9. Shortstops have far more plays than centerfielders due. Buxton's defensive runs saved is impressive considering the number of plays compared to a shortstop.
  10. The perception will be that ownership does not spend the money until the actually spend the money.
  11. The issue here is with the culture and until you change that you will have these stories. I agree change will come slowly, but to many of the males who excel at sports, they have come to expect the almost all women are available to them, and do not take no for an answer very well. You only have to look at college football or basketball to realize this is a fact. Twins have a problem here, and I hope they can get Sano to fix it, before it becomes an issue where both sides feel they want to move on from it. That would be a big loss for the Twins as it that occurs the Twins would be selling very low on a high level talent. Still if that is what it takes to clean up the issue, we have to be prepared to do so. Doubt Sano will get a big time suspension for the one issue, but am very concerned about the pattern and if MLB takes that into consideration when handling the discipline. This story is just one more of things that are now coming to light and for women operating in the sports or news world, hopefully the start of something better.
  12. I also had wondered that same issue, and if it was tied to Jake Mauer leaving the organization. I feel Mauer at some point this last year reached out to the Twins about his future here, and was told either wait and see or that it looked like he would not be returning after 2018. Given Rooker's progress and the Twins looking at one or two year deals with the Sano question also, it could be the Twins feel they have enough first base options going after 2018.
  13. Looks great. Really liked Enlow and think he could be the front line starter we need. Move him up fast.
  14. Seems like this analysis above is correct. There are plenty of 40 man spots that can be used for a DFA. My best guess is that Vargas will not be here long.
  15. I agree that the Rodney signing probably took us out of the top tier relievers market. However I am very concerned about the pen, losses in April and May while sorting things out make difficult runs later in the year. Twins have 57 games against teams that are rebuilding in our division, let's take advantage of this and move now to make the playoffs. Pitching wins, and a top flight starting rotation is not in the cards for a few years, bullpen is easier to build, but want a least 1 if not 2 more guys to be here to start than risk a bad couple of months early sorting the pen out. Maybe the new wonder boys in the front office have a plan or know where they are going, but in this case I am in the 'show me' camp.
  16. I can see Burdi coming back as the first year after TJ surgery if usually not good. Bard could be well one where the new FO outsmarted themselves. I can see the Angels using Bard as a chip if they need to acquire an asset at midseason. He then will get to a club that can stash him for the rest of the year. In my mind this was not a good move.
  17. Twins to get to the next level need an ace, Darvish would be great. Payroll will not be a major issue for a few years, go for it.
  18. Relievers tend to come and go. I have seen it pointed out that when Rodney implodes it is for crooked numbers, so ERA tends to be high, but the results are not so bad. According to MLBtraderumors there is an option for 2019.
  19. Burdi did not figure into the Twins plans for next year and the first year back from TJ surgery can be dicey. May get him back, though am much more worried now that he is with the Pirates. Bard I was not happy with as I thought he might have a chance to help this year. We will see.
  20. Do not know his status or his agent, but Lewis should be here in 2019 or 2020 and Twins have many middle infield prospects. Would hate to lose Gordon and or Jay, but cannot see the message the Twins are satisfied with a wild card spot, will make it tough to land top flight talent in the future. Remember the White Sox see their window opening about 2020 and they are one of the top ranked farm systems (like the Twins were a couple of years ago). Let's not blow this.
  21. I would do the trade for Cole in a heartbeat, and then sign other starter (no worse than Lynn/Cobb with preferring Cobb. I am OK with the Archer - Longorilla trade including Sano. Sano is a Boras client and Twins chances of retaining him for more than 4 years are small. I would see if Sano is interested in a 6 year deal before I did this, but hope the Twins have already done their work. Sano + Gordon + Starter and Granite should be somewhere in the ballpark.

    Go big or go home

Many teams are looking at the relief pitching market. Doubt there will be any bargins until you hit the suspect pile. Noted one article suggested Kinzler's wife wants him to sign with Arizona, so that team may get a hometown discount. But most of the relievers will not be cheap. Let's not sit here and 3 days from now have to make panic signings because no one has accepted an offer. Make your moves now toward the top of the pile, and start to play with the big dogs.
  23. It is going to cost the Twins a significant major league piece to trade for pitching help. Twins will have to make at least one big money purchase and one major trade to reach the next level. Hope the new FO gets it right. As I see it sign the relievers and trade for a starter. Starter will cost you Gordon plus probably a major league piece. Maybe Gordon, Sano, + for Archer and Longoria. If you do not think Sano will sign here, then use as a trade chip to get to the next level.
  24. Don't forget that the Mariners are still playing for either the division or the wild card. It is time to move some prospect chips into the table before all the big dogs get going. There are going to be a few fire sales this winter. Let's get the prime and not the scraps from these teams (Tampa and Kansas City now), probably Toronto , Baltimore and either the Rangers, Mariners, or Angels later. Stanton to the Yankees really changed the landscape and Twins need to decide direction now. Next winter will be too late.

    Go big or go home

Found two interesting articles today about direction. One stated that with 5 clubs already all in (Yankees, Red Sox, Indians, Astros, Angels, and maybe even the Mariners ). There was the comment that most of the rest of the American league should be sellers as best expectation would a wild card spot and a quick exit. The second article was in the Tampa Bay newspaper today and suggested the Ray's should do a total rebuild. That means all players with value should be traded. Twins should be willing to trade prospects for some of Tampa Bay controlled assets, starting with asking what Archer would cost. Most of these deals will take place in the next few days, so let's get started.
