    Buxton is expected to be part of the future here. May not totally make it, but have to give it a big chance. Only have to look at Aaron Hicks to see what happens when you give up too early (not to forget David Ortiz). He could fail, players do all the time, but hard to see this happening that he becomes Billy Hamilton II. Giving up too early is a good way to get yourself fired (or relieved of duties in the current time).

    Having a hard time understanding how posters here feel. How would you feel or the league if Buxton announced 'I am going to sign with Atlanta and play close to home when I become a free agent' So if he becomes a decent player, he has fixed the Twins by cutting his market value or letting teams know if they trade for him, they will have to overpay to sign him. This is the treatment that maybe the Twins deserve after treating him this way.

    Certainly Austin, thought Cron was more balanced or backward.

    According to some of the MLB trade rumors I am seeing the White Sox are now the favorites to sign Harper. They are making the moves and the more the Twins and Indians show weakness, the more likely the Whities make their move this year.

    2 items to consider 1. Given the use of bullpens, do you think Bour would see a right handed pitcher in a clutch situation from the 6th inning on. He is trash against lefties. 2. With the 13 man pitching staff, you cannot carry extra position players that cannot hit both ways. Especially those who have 1 position.

    All players develop at a different rate. Messing with Buxton's service time was the worst thing the Twins could have done. Pohlad's have paid players who became the face of the franchise, for the Twins in the next 2 - 3 years this is Buxton. Chances of keeping Sano if he becomes good are small, since opinion seems to be he wants to play on the east coast. Twins behavior toward Buxton has created 2 or 3 outcomes. 1. Buxton never does hit well and becomes a glove only 3rd or 4th outfielder, and probably hits FA in 4 years. 2. Buxton turns things around next year or the year after and one of two things happens a. Agent tells Twins he is leaving after 6 years, so Twins have a choice and the only way to get full value(if they can) is to trade Buxton after year 4 or during year 5 (sell that to these posters and your fan base). b. Twins have to give Buxton a Harper like contract based on 1 to 2 years and maybe an overpay to get him to stay. This (like Mauer) handicaps your payroll to be competitive. This scenario could well get the FO fired, was it worth the risk? Only way to justify this is if the FO knows he is leaving when Buxton reaches FA. We don't have the answer to that question.

    Depends on how this plays out. If there is no chance he stays here, the Twins have really messed things up if he ever figures things out (read Aaron Hicks) only Buxton has a chance to be much better. Hope the Twins get a line on this in the offseason, because it can become an issue soon.

    I would have had Javier at #5 or #6. He is the key as if he makes it at SS, Lewis probably is moved to center field. This seems to be plan B. Rest of top 15 is mix, match and flavor, with edge to prospects closer to the majors.

    Different era, can't compare the two like you are trying to do. When Lee was pitching closers were doing 80-100 innings a year. Nathen is from the specialist era, more like 60 - 70 innings. I think when Smith started saving games, you still needed to go about 3 innings to get a save. Big difference.

    Blue Jays released him today, so Twins would only have to pay the major league minimum. Was great at one time, maybe could bounce back. I see him as high reward very low risk. What to the rest of you think.

    I think most of us posters would agree that Lee Smith deserved the HOF nod, Baines is a different issue and I rate him as marginal at best. After this I would say that Mauer's chances of reaching the HOF are great. Edger Martinez is now a shooin.

    I am willing to gamble one of our 6 - 7 starter prospects (or two) will come through this year to be a serviceable #5 starter (and hopefully better). I am not willing to gamble that we can fill the bullpen from within or not add another position player or two, who can make this team better. Twins have the big chance to move forward this year and are not taking it. I tend to agree with the poster who felt the new FO does not care for the TR regime players and are selling them short. Maybe we bring out the pitchforks sooner rather than later. Schoop, I can understand, low OBP, but power and good defense, do not sell that short. Did not understand Cron, unless the FO feels Austin is not the answer. Could understand making some trades to upgrade this club, do not understand why the FO is not working harder on it.

    Given the concussion issues for Garver, can see signing Ramos. Also do not know how Castro will come back. Cruz would be nice, but may want (and get) the third year, maybe Soria (would rather have a reliever further up the pile) Cahill (not at what it would cost)

    Lots of prospects hit the top 50 and then burn out. However this is for a one year rental, so hard to see Twins giving up a lot to get him. Price was reasonable and Twins could have done it, but a little more understandable if you are talking about sustainable.

    There are players out there who could help this club and Twins have the payroll space to handle them. If you do not want to spend money on a middle infielder install Arraez at 2B and spend your money in pitching. This club's offseason needs some excitement, so create some. Twins need some to move the needle on ticket sales.

    You are going to have to pay close to that type of money to get a front line starter. Or give up one headliner prospect (Lewis or Kirloff) plus other good prospects to pry an ace loose. We all have doubts the Twins will ever go in that direction.

    Twins have 21 B- prospects, most clubs do not have 10. This is what I am suggesting to use some of them to improve the major league product. There are many clubs tanking now, time to make some deals. This does not mean the top prospects, just use some of the near major league talent to improve the Twins

    Twins need to package some of the starting pitcher depth and some mid level prospect depth to get a real difference maker. I am worried about the OBP of this club and the great deal of swing and miss. Maybe some of this will improve, but am looking to Wade to make a difference maybe as early as this year. Rest depends on what the Twins FO wants to do. If you do not want to go for the division +, play Arraez at 2nd base, rotation starters until you find one or two that can do the job and try bullpen options along with signing 1 - 2 pieces. With about 7 starters, Twins can afford to package 2 of them or 3 of them for a major league piece that is a #3 and maybe better. Maybe the Mets for Wheeler or KC for Duffy. They need to find out if Mejia can make it or maybe he can be included in a deal for a better starter. If Twins decide to step up (and I along with a number of posters hope they do), Sign 2 - 3 major bullpen pieces and a second base player. Explore all trade avenues to improve this club. Use the fact that they have 21 B- propects and better to trade a few of them for major league players. We do not have forever, White Sox are also coming and any delay may have the White Sox push to pass the Twins this year and they have more money and a better farm system to do so.

    While not game over, it is clear the White Sox are another player, since the Twins seem choosing not to be. Twins had their chance to make some splashes and the Mighty Whiteys may have chosen not to get in. Would you have done Garver for Colume?? These are the types of moves you make if you are planning to contend. Twins are not sending a good message here.

    Well the Twins waited too long. White Sox decided to jump in and acquired Colume from Seattle. Maybe Twins should decide to rebuild now as it looks like the White Sox have sensed the opportunity and pushed chips to the middle.

    I have 2 questions. How much do the Mets want (I have heard it is a haul of close to major league ready talent). I would make Sano, Kepler and a prospect available and if they want more think very hard. 2. Is there something about Syndergaard we do not know (the GM is his former agent and certainly knows everything about him). This issue is what makes me pause since Mets could get a bigger haul for trading 2 years of DeGroom.

    I have heard there is a good chance Schoop is nontendered by the Brewers. Might be a good option for a year or two (or maybe more if he can repeat 2017 on a regular basis). Addison Russell also could be available. Do not know if I would touch him, but he is a good buy low candidate.He would also have to show he could be rehabilitated. From what I have heard he is a much worse case than Sano. Either or both could shore up the Twins middle for the next couple of years without a huge dollar expense, and allow the Twins to push a great deal of money into improving their pitching (to me this is the key to winning). Other choice would be to give Arraez a shot and see if he can hit up here. I would take a pass on most of the other older FA signings.
