  1. These are top 10 prospects from weaker systems. Do not have an issue with acquiring lottery tickets.

    Radio matters

Network might matter now more than a station. I do remember not only WCCO, but WGN out of Chicago (I heard some of Kolfax's perfect game there) and KMOX out of St. Louis (with Jack Buck and Harry Carey) great baseball station. It is hard to find games in the remote areas and clear channels is a great thing out there, rather than having to change channels every 40 miles.
  3. It is close, but I feel that opening this door would start letting many players in with close, but not great overall statistics. Edgar Martinez is the name the comes to mind. Very good hitter, but no position after the first few years. No lifting his team on his back and carrying them when needed. The early era had multiple players in this category and none of them or very few are in the hall of fame. Martinez did not play in the current era where his statistics would be better than they were in the era he played. It will be interesting how the HOF treats this players as Mauer is also in the category(higher in my mind because of the position he played when he won his three batting titles).
  4. It can never be wrong to add more talent. Go after some of the Braves players that were freed.
  5. Evan as a discussion piece I can see the logic in this. Do not think it is likely, but the suggested possible trade to the Reds for either piece makes some sense. If you are coupling that with signing or trading for another #2, #3 starter it makes a lot of sense. Santana's numbers under the ERA suggest he may be a significant regression piece, and since I (and a number of other posters on this site) do not trust Gibson who has had good stretches before. Twins need to be aggressive in pursuit of pitching, but as TR found out, you cannot force players to come here. Would think some moves would start happening.
  6. Nice article, I tend to agree with this, just do not think it will happen.
  7. I am more for using the International bonus pool money (and acquiring more) to sign some the prospects that were released from the Braves for violations. I also am assuming that we cannot get either Darvish or Ohtani (but it does not hurt to dream or try). Braves have many prospects that are higher level and for the Twins (who are a mid market team, not a low market), it would help sustain over the next few years what we have going at this time.
  8. Morrow or Nicasio would be in my range. Not quite as expensive, but both could be very good to great. Slightly prefer Nicasio, but either coupled with a Kinzler or a Shaw would be wonderful. McGee would also be a possibility. Twins are on an upswing, let's get some help to tack down the games the offense gives us.
  9. There are so few decent curveballs around, that if he can control that pitch, he could well be a decent midrotation starter with a 90 - 92 MPH heater and a changeup. It was commented by the announcers in game 7 of the ACLS that McCullers threw 24 consecutive curveballs and the Yankee hitters just looked silly at the plate. Let's get him moving up before the league starts seeing great curveballs again.
  10. Seth, Is Enlow having arm issues or does not have high velocity on his fastball, this answer leaves some troubling questions. Other thing is he could just need to fill out to gain 2 - 3 MPH on his fastball
  11. Would guess that Rooker is going to play 1B at some time this year in Rochester and there was no room to continue the Park experiment.
  12. Nishi was Bill Smith and Gardy, Park was TR, but seems to have worked out better, just do not know if he was healthy how it would have gone. There was not room in the win now mode the Twins were entering, and Park realized that, so good for both sides.
  13. I would hope they would take him back, but a prospect that would not have to be added to the 40 man for a couple of years with upside could be fine with me.
  14. Great article. Twins probably have the chips to trade. Might sent both Gordon and Gonsalves for the right FA pitcher. Especially if I can extend them. The win window starts this year. Would also consider trading Sano if discussions on an extension show he and his representatives are not interested. You win with pitching. In this line you hope Rooker can measure up. Or you deal with Tampa Bay for both Archer and Longorilla expected they are heading for a full rebuild.
  15. I like the new direction and wish Kohl Stewart well whether it be with the Twins or another club. Twins have changed from pretenders to contenders, and with this change the Twins need major league ready talent. None of the players left off are regarded as sure things, so you take the chance. Only downside will be if the Twins do not spend money this winter to improve the club and fill those holes. Players like Slegers were regarded closer to helping the big team than Stewart. We may disagree, but I do not mind this direction.
  16. Twins needed pitching now, not 2 years from now and the only way they are going to do that is with trades and free agents. If we strike out on both, this move could be bad, but the fact that the new front office was willing to take some risks says a lot for where this franchise is now. We are into the win now era.
  17. This could happen, a couple of really bad clubs could draft him and stash him for a year (Detroit and Cincinnati) come to mind.
  18. If Diaz is still here in 3 weeks (expect he will be), but a bad team could take a flyer.
  19. Would be surprised if we lost either Stewart or Diaz. Would agree with Seth, that it seems the Twins will be signing some relievers this offseason, otherwise some of this makes no sense. Twins have gone from rebuild to contenders and these moves seem to reflect that change. Now if the Twins do not sign some relievers the pitchforks will be out on the website.
  20. Would be surprised if we lost Stewart or Burdi because of the injuries and the red flags on both these pitchers, Diaz we could lose, but would probably be returned as he is far from ready and most clubs do not need a 1B type(calculated risk), I would expect to lose 2-3 in the rule 5 draft, which ones are a mystery.
  21. I have not seen numbers that high, but have seen in the 4 or 5/$100 range, and it could be a players market at the top end.
  22. This is what we call small sample size. Mike Schmidt did not reach the Mendoza line his first year in the bigs. Do not know how things will turn out, but Seth has contacts where the bulk of us do not. Let's wait and see.
  23. Do not think both is an option, unless there is something I do not know. But the Twins need an ace, this is a good place to start.
  24. Grossman is probably as good or better than Werth and tends to hit lefties better. We also will need to see if Kepler or Rosario are platoon only or can stand in against all but the super tough lefties. Werth would probably want to be more than a bench bat so do not see the fit here. Lackey No, No, No.
  25. Twins have a large number of players that have some chance in the major leagues. Will be interesting on how many are exposed to the rule 5 draft. Burdi does seem low and a number of these should move up or down based on the season. I like Leach, Reed and Burdi among this group. Couple of the starters could make it. Might use some of them as lottery tickets as I feel the Twins need to thin some of the prospects rather than lose 3 - 4 this winter.
