  1. Seth Romero went in the 1st Round. Shock, maybe this was one of the players the Twins were hoping would drop to them. Or maybe in Minnesota he was undraftable.
  2. That could be good for the Twins as they may be looking at several of them. Unless the new FO already knows that Pohlad will open the wallet and buy some frontline pitchers the next 2 years.
  3. See the NC pitcher fell all the way to 15. Clubs seem to be doing more diligence than before. Scary that high school kids went 1-3. Maybe the Cubs model with success of position players early is changing thinking in the front offices.
  4. They must have had an idea of what Lewis would sign for before the draft. Maybe they will be double-crossed again by Boris, but it will depend on how badly Lewis wants to sign. Was not happy with the pick, but will wait and see how it turns out. Maybe they saw things in the pitchers they did not like, or maybe McKay just played too much hard ball with them.
  5. Greene probably has the highest upside and the biggest bust factor. College arms are more predictable, but there are no guarantees. That is the issue with this draft. I also do not get to see the spin factors and other things the Twins look at. That is a piece of Information that seems to mean at lot to our FO.
  6. Yes, Belisle needs to be DFA'ed. We need to get the rotation going between Rochester, Chattanooga and here until we find pieces that work. If it takes this year fine, we just can't keep blowing games with the same old tired pitchers.
  7. My comment was that I do not want to pick to save money and I do not care if the pick is the safer one. I just do not think that a ceiling of a number 2 or number 3 is where I want to pick. I just feel other players have much higher upsides.
  8. Greene would still be my choice, just think the chance of him failing or turning into a one or two pitch closer is a more likely outcome. Twins may want to avoid that outcome.
  9. I hope if he is the Twins pick that he succeeds. Just do not think he is the correct choice, but this is not my area of expertise. Just feel picking him is picking not to fail, while I want to hit the homerun with still a high enough floor to be successful.
  10. NO! to McKay. If it is him I have the tar and pitchforks ready if he fails.
  11. Still feel to be competitive starting next year Twins have to sign a #1 or #2 starter, who can take the team further down the road toward the playoffs. Twins have plenty of money coming off the books in the next 2 years and people do not start to get expensive until 2020. Window should be open.
  12. I have more issues with the pen. Twins are now plugging in fillins to the rotation, but today still had a chance to win starting the bottom of the 7th. We need to get some of the kids up here and stabilize the pen, before our chances are blown away. Then you can make decisions on the path forward, to buy or sell. But give this club a chance.
  13. Team had one ace(Frankie) and one Ervin(Bert), and a decent bullpen. Things have changed, starters do not go 7 that often. Bullpen as a result has to be deeper. Plus they only had one team to beat to make the series. Teams have to be deeper now.
  14. I think the Twins should call Turley up later this week and send Rosario down to Rochester. Rosario seems a little overmatched at this time and he will be back. Meanwhile Twins are going to need relievers who can pitch multiple innings so why not give Turley a shot. Maybe have him meet us in SF.
  15. I feel if you get an overpay option, you take it. It is hard to blow off the fans by trading your best pitcher, but this season may well wind up like 2015 and passing on very good to overpay deals will not help the Twins down the road.
  16. I still say take the BPA, but if you think the draft is that deep, then games can be played, but that also takes a club above you listening to an advisor and passing on the player you want. The problem with high schoolers is that the difference in money where they would be taken in the 30's will not be enough for them to take the gigantic leap and pass on what is offered to hopefully become a higher pick in 1-3 years. And 1 year only if they are willing to go to a junior college and have the issue of lesser competition.
  17. I am in the camp with it is good to compete this year. However I hope because of the hopes the Twins have, they do not turn down any overpays for players not in the long term plans(Santana, Santiago, Dozier, Kinzler) and other over 30 players.
  18. There are number of high level FA pitchers who may choose to move after the next two seasons. I would like one under 30 whose stuff can play even if they lose a little. Twins should get a shot at one if they are willing to spend the money. An ace helps a lot in the playoffs. let's move forward.
  19. Santana worked out, There is a big difference between a number 3 starter and an ace. You are talking $50 million plus.
  20. I think you are expecting Pohlad to spend the big bucks for pitching to put us over the top. Would love to see that happen, more likely you are looking at fools gold.
  21. You are deluding yourself. Cleveland is still the best team in the division by a long shot and just got Cory Kluber back. It will cost you a fair amount in prospects to bring in enough help to just stay close. You could well have more clarity in a month and a half and most likely you will have wasted time in not finding out what you have for next year.
  22. Hughes will be bullpen rotation depth next year, Gibson should be nontendered after this year. Santiago will be an FA. You will need 3-4 starters, plus 4-5 relievers next year. I am all for starting to indentify them now. How else are you going to have an idea of how many you have to buy on the market this winter?
  23. I do not know how difficult it is to get a GM from another organization during the season, I expect it is impossible. So waiting until the end of the year was the only thing Pohlad could do, once he decided to go outside the organization. I was a TR defender and maybe the move should have been made earlier, but that is water under the dam. GM and top of organization changes come over winter, not in midseason unless you are promoting from within, The only other change you can make is to hire someone currently unemployed, I did not see any of that type I would want to run the Twins.
  24. Would still rather have Greene as he could be a 1 in 10 year talent, but Wright is my second choice. Do not feel a #2 ceiling and a 1B floor should go 1:1
  25. Buxton is more valuable long term, but could be done after 2018. Sano window is shorter, I would start with Sano. Buxton's contract will also be less, possibly much less and probably only cover 1 to 2 FA years, to me Sano is the new face of the franchise, let's pay him. Also his skill does not diminish as fast as other skills. His hitting could well last to between 35 - 40 depending on how well he took care of himself.
