  1. Glad to his fastball up to 91. Now if he can gain another tick or two, he will be back to where he was. That is good news.
  2. Close for me also, not sure of backup catcher and expect Santiago to be in the rotation, with Rogers being the other relief pitcher to start. Also believe Park has a chance of making this team over Stubbs, who I do not see a role for, unless you decide to sit both Rosario and Kepler against lefties.
  3. It is early yet. Will take more note after first cuts are made(I presume sometime this week). One note is that it only costs like 25% of salary to cut an arbitration player. So do not think money will be an issue if the FO does not feel like either Santiago or Gibson is working out before the last week of spring training. Park is getting early looks, so it is possible he plays his way back on the roster, Vargas is optioned and one of many edge 40 man roster players is sent packing. Goodrum is also a dark horse for me and would like to see him get some early game reps against major league pitching to form an opinion.
  4. Too early to worry about Sano. Encouraged that May looked good, still too early but a good sign.
  5. I would say it is time to worry if Hughes velocity does not improve in 2 weeks. Before that I am inclined to believe Hughes has that time to ramp up. If he cannot get regularly above 90, the time has come to cut bait.
  6. Pressly is the only non space filler I see in that group. Would not mind if they sent Gibson packing, but the youngsters will have to step up into the rotation for that to happen.
  7. Dates are important here, but it looks like he is the real deal.
  8. the author feels Robert is a superstar in the making. I
  9. According to some scouts according to The Score, Luis Robert from Cuba is supposed to be the 'Best Player on the Plant'. He is planning to become available before July 2 where multiple clubs, including those who will be barred for signing players for more the $300,000 could bid on him. Multiple teams have been linked to him, http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/scout-cuban-prospect-robert-best-player-on-the-planet/ar-AAnkXkm?li=AAn4eAA&ocid=spartandhp Would it be worthwhile for the Twins to go after him? The Twins have been linked to, and expected to sign one of the two(Rays are going to sign the other). Wander Franco and Jelfrey Marte. This comes from mlbtraderumors yesterday, attributed to Baseball America. The signing would cost the Twins the shortstop, and will have some limitations down the road. Twins already have a shortstop considered to be very good in the system(Wander Javier), but Robert is a 1B player and almost certainly be ready when Mauer leaves after 2018(if not sooner). Twins also have a glut(very unusual)of middle infield talent, with only one(Diaz) 1B talent coming in the next few years. Twins need pitching help more, so losing the ability to sign front line international players for two years could be harmful, but if Robert is going to be a superstar, would it be worthwhile?
  10. Usually the GM decides who is on the club and lets the manager decide when they play. In the consultation if the manager is not going to use the player, then they jointly decide what to do. This is why I was more for firing Molitor than relieving TR. Maybe and I think the time had come(now) to make the change at the top, I just thought that Molitor was more of the problem than TR.
  11. Against LHP you are going to rest either Kepler or Rosario, so I would expect Grossman to start against ever LHP, if he makes the club and I think he will.
  12. My less than a lock include both Hughes and Gibson. I also feel Murphy will be the backup catcher. This is close Seth. More pitching competition cannot hurt, a lot of it is guesses at this time.
  13. Think you give him about half a year, if things to not progress, put him back in the pen and pencil him in as a co-closer. Super bullpen can cover a lot of starting pitching issues.
  14. It has been a long time since the Twins have had middle infield depth. Relievers are also fine and probably enough starters will make it to be OK. (Though everyone wants more) 3B/1B types are a long way away, long enough that the new FO tried to sign Mike Napoli to fill for 2 years. (Per reports here and elsewhere). Outfield should be fine, but see little depth at this time, but have 4 years or more of control to current crop. This year will be interesting as the transition continues.
  15. Gonsalves looks high on your list and Thrope looks way low. Outside of that we are knitpicking
  16. I understand Cedar Rapids, but a part of me would like to see Ft. Myers and get a feel for what he brings, also to try and get him here in 2019 to replace Mauer.
  17. Competition is good. Do not know why all you people think Gibson is a lock. I feel Santana and Santiago are locks, rest are open. Expect Gibson to win a spot, but the rest depends on Hughes health and the progress of the young kids. Think Haley will make the team in the long role, unless it is felt necessary to start Hughers there. This does not look much better than last year, depressing.
  18. Reading between the lines, I can see what Falvey and Levine think of Vargas and Park. According to mlbtraderumors the Twins offered Napoli more money than he signed for with Texas. That is telling me they do not see a future here long term for either Park or Vargas. The fact that Twins are still being linked to other DH types is singing the same song. Unless something changes Vargas are Park are both considered short term here. They could both be gone if the Twins can find an decent DH to sign(unlikely at this point).
  19. If Murphy cannot succeed at the major league level this year, he has the risk of becoming org filler for the rest of his career. Would guess Murphy gets first shot and if he fails Garver is called up. Interested on how the Twins rotation shakes out. Lots of candidates and not a lot of MLB success between them. Maybe with the fastball control mantra, most of them will have an extra minor league season or time to hone this skill. Seems to be missing among the Twins starters called up the last few seasons.
  20. Without a significant upgrade in play, I would be shocked if Santana was not DFA'ed somewhere in spring training. And if he was claimed(oh well, bye Danny). Escobar will be the other player on the hot seat as Twins may prefer a glove first (Adrianza) utility player to Escobar(especially when you have a 13 man pitching staff). You will still have 2 bench bats(Grossman and you backup catcher for PH duty). Believe backup will by Murphy in this alignment, but not sure.
  21. Little worried about Seth's comment on Polanco. He can hit, so question is on defense. If he is not good at either SS or 2B, can he hit enough to hold the position. Twins seem to have a great number of middle infield prospects coming, though most are like 3 years away(except for Gordon). Are we looking at Polanco more as a placeholder after all this hype or is he a full time regular going forward?
  22. I would push Arraez to Chatanooga to start and see how he does. If he can hit there it might be possible to feel very comfortable trading either Dozier or Polanco for pitching depth. I can see Vielma coming up this year also after a Dozier trade. Spring training injuries do happen.
  23. The bottom 4 teams in the division could finish anywhere. Believe the WS will do a few more trades and be at the bottom for a couple of years, but the talent they have acquired will be a factor for years after that. Twins will just depend on how far the pitching carries them. Believe the bullpen will be much better, just do not see the starting rotation being good enough to propel them much higher than 80 wins and could be a lot less if a few things go wrong.
