  1. With a wide open window to win and more budding young stars on the way, the FO needs to set up a path to a championship in the next couple years. I think we are in for a very unexpected off season. It has started out as bad as it possibly could have.
  2. @chpettit19 I was bring a bit sarcastic. $$$ does indeed buy championships but the Twins may be better off bot spending all of it cause they make some very bad spending decisions. As a fan, I would rather watch a team play that wins more than it loses no matter what the payroll is. The optics of the ownership quote yesterday will probably do as much damage as the actual non spending does.
  3. Huge payrolls bought the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers et al what??? Nothing but disappointment. The Twins are lacking 2 things for 2024, Grays replacement and Buxtons replacement. What is Buxton actually plays and play’s well??? Thats like a freebie. $15M freebie. What if Varland/Festa et al finish with 3WAR. Not out of the realm of possibility. Todays news is going to be long forgotten when the team is winning another central division crown.
  4. I think you are spot on. There is probably on going dialogue mgmnt/ownership about how close some minor league prospects are to being ready and if the team can win the division with a payroll around $130M
  5. If only they would not sign guys like Gallo, Archer, et al…. Going young is going to have some painful moments but we have some guys that are close to making the jump to varsity. If ever there was a time that playing money ball could work, its this year. The central division isn’t going to be any better in 2024.
  6. At most, they will spend $140M. Probably closer to $130M. I’m hoping they bring up 3 rookies. That will be much more exciting than 3 Gallos.
  7. They need to hire a FA expert to help them stay away from the garbage they bring in.
  8. November 6, 2023Minnesota Twins activated SS Nick Gordon from the 60-day injured list. November 6, 2023Minnesota Twins activated RHP Matt Canterino from the 60-day injured list. November 6, 2023Minnesota Twins activated LHP Jovani Moran from the 60-day injured list.
  9. His knee hurts. Go play the game. Geez.
  10. The rumor mill already says the Twins won’t spend big in FA. I think Montgomery is gettable for $17-19M but you would have to go at least 4 years because someone else will. Seems like they will go back to doing a reclamation project or two again in the $2-6M range. Mahle might be one of them if they think he will be ready in August 2024. I would bet against them doing nothing with pitching.
  11. I don’t think we should go after kiermeier or anyone else for CF. We have 3-4 internal solutions. Its a temporary issue anyhow (2024) as we have Erod and Jenkins on the express train in the minors. The FO should focus on the P word.
  12. I can see Farmer coming back and signing Mahle to a rehab deal. The rest are going to down the road. The point of free agency is to find something better for the organization and as players. It’s possible that we roll with Lee at 2nd to save payroll and get an extra draft pick. Polo would be the 5th infielder and Farmer gone. I would put the chance of Gray or Maeda coming back at 1%. Its just not gonna happen. We have pitching needs so it will be fun watching it play out to see who signs or gets acquired by trade.
  13. Varland/Festa et al can fill a roll for the Twins. I would only take Gray back on the QO but I bet he will be pitching sown south in 2024.
  14. @Karbo I don’t think Gray will be back for that kind of $$$. He will likely sign for over $30M/yr on a 2-3 yr deal. The rest looks solid but somehow I see the FO doing some kind of Galloesc tinkering just because they can’t help themselves….. the FO really should target a front line SP but it wont be Gray. The assumption that Gray wont accept the QO. If he does, then signing a second cheaper option like Giollito would make sense.
  15. Well …. I guess the experts are somewhat in the know but I would predict a bunch of surprises. The Twins might actually sign a player or two rather quickly is my first thought.
  16. I was just going thru the FA list of SP while enjoying my deathwish coffee. After careful consideration, I would try like hell to sign Jordan Montgomery to a 4 year contract with a team option for years 5 and 6. He will be 31 next month but has only 755 IP in his MLB career so he is smack dab in his prime and fresh off a world series championship. What will he cost? Some where around $100M? If I were in the FO, I would offer $75m over 4 years plus the 2 option years which could send it well over $100M. A possible bargain if he continues to be as consistent as he has been!
  17. @gman he is a smart kid that seems to be able to make adjustments. Its a chess match! If 2024 is in line with your extrapolations, thats allstar quality if the K rate is below 27%!
  18. He is just too far away from being a MLB regular role player. Hopefully someday he figures out the swing and miss. I doubt a rebuilding club would want to clog up their roster with him.
  19. @mikelink45 the real win is with the guys that didn’t make the top 30 but will make a contribution n MLB over the next 5 years.
  20. Thats a cool look back. Seems so long ago!! We really do have a nice farm system as it looks like we will continue to produce major leaguers.
  21. Wouldn’t it be a sneaky time to outright Alcala so other teams would let him pass thru waiver claims? Might be a dumb question….
  22. @Major League Readyisn’t depth a wonderful problem to have?! If Buxton’s knee is actually fixable, we might just have an above average OF in 2024. I know its a lot to ask but I’m gonna hope for one last time that he will play 120 games in CF. I will not bet my retirement on that happening tho. Even if the injury bug bites in 2024, we won’t be in need of bringing up a kid that isn't ready or making a mid season trade/pickup for Gallo or Stevenson type. Sorry, not sorry. Cheers to Buck possibly, maybe living up to his 4.5 tool potential.
  23. Not my first thought but I am interested to watch how the 2023 pitching draft class progresses. Lots of college arms that may play well in pro ball relatively quick. Who will be the next later round pick to climb thru the system the fastest.
  24. Jenkins is the shiny new toy with a high ceiling. 4 years younger and most likely to be a season behind Lee in arriving at the show. @tony&rodney I agree 💯 % with your comments/watch list. whats really gonna be crazy is possibly watching Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford in the Rangers outfield for the next decade. Good grief!!!
  25. It would be awesome to go back and watch the 64-69 twins. So many good/great players. It was crazy cool to be 18 and graduating highschool and going to college in 87 when we won it all! Gladden was clutch!! I’m still salty about Bruno getting traded.
