  1. Looks like with Schoop, Cron and Cruz we added 100 HRs to the lineup next year. Not sure yet who will be on base when they come up but....
  2. See this....This is my Boomstick! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eyp4Sdq6i0s They should just show this clip everytime he comes to bat at Target Field.
  3. If we sign another starter I do like the idea of Buckholtz. He can be very good or replaceable if not so good. And he wont be expensive or a long term commitment. So someone from the minors would have to beat out either Buckholtz or Odorizzi for a spot in the rotation or hope for an injury and we would likely have a starter to trade for prospects in July/August if everyone stays healthy.
  4. Plus Hicks has the benefit of playing home games in Yankees stadium where everyone gets a home run and you get a home run and you get a home run......
  5. Parker Bridwell was just DFA'd by the yankees. He is a good cheap relief option.
  6. So next offseason we resign Gibson we should be good. Depending on how the prospects develop we may want 1 other starter but that would be worst case. Also forgot kohl stewart
  7. I am not as worried about our rotation next year. We will have more options from the farm ready to go. Just to name a few: Slegers Gonsalves Romero Mejia Thorpe Tylers Wells Brusdar Grateral (at some point in 2020) Littel And then there are some i dont know as well like Poppin
  8. The Cubs and Houston picked higher than the Twins in those years. makes it easier to hit when you have the higher picks. I am confident that if Bryant was available when we had the pick we would have picked him instead of Gordon or Kohl Stewart. And Gordon and Stewart were considered top of the draft when we picked them. I would also include Berrios as his draft pick turned out pretty good. Stewart is looking like a potential 3-5 starter depending on his eventual ceiling and I think he can continue to build over the next few years. He may have to be a swing man or 5th starter a year or two but with a 96 mph fastball and developing other pitches He does have the potential of being a Kyle Gibson for us. Gordon still has the potential to be a .270/.330/.380 hitter with 25 2bs 10HRs and 10 Stolen bases as a middle IF. If Jay can be a solid Middle reliever his pick will work out ok just looks bad compared to Benintendi. I think Buxton will be fine. His defense is great and I think his bat will play just fine. By the way Killerhoff is looking like a good first round draft pick as is Lewis and Larnarch. I think the farm system even under the old regime was doing just fine.
  9. I think that's still too many openings for internal solutions. Plus I would rather Romero start as he does have top of the rotation potential. So signing 1 legit bullpen piece like Soria and another to add to the competition is not a bad way to go. That would give our pen 5 reliable arms and three competing for spots with a number of players. I do think a few of them can make it like Moya and Magill so I am OK with 3 spots especially if we have a minor league signing or two to compete as well. Moya, Vasquez, and Mejia are three lefties I think will get lots of looks. I think Mejia still has a solid shot at the 5th starter though. Curtis, Reed, and Duffy are three guys who have either not been given a chance or have control issues or haven,t been effective so far. I don't want to guarantee a spot to any of these three as they need to force their way back into the equation. Magill is in line for a bullpen spot too. Or at least should have a leg up on a spot. But like you say the key is if you plan on using Romero out of the pen. That would be the key to your argument that we don't need to go outside for bullpen arms. And that is a valid one though i hope the Twins do not commit to keeping him in the pen for a full season. I want him ready to take over for Odorizzi by the end of next season in the rotation.
  10. The plan for Austin is for Hrbeck to coach him and Cron into a full cage no holds bar WWE style knock out match for 1B winner takes all. How does anyone not see this comming?
  11. I hate the opener strategy. Its stupid . And i dont want to pay to go to a game they do this.
  12. I think the Twins are fine with him as C but if there is another concussion then what....I think they are more worried about the next one ending his C career.
  13. Actually with more playing time Adrianza was bouncing between .690-.725 he ended at .680 I imagine after he went on the 10 day DL for something and spent more time on the bench when he came back till Escobar was traded.
  14. Ehire is a below average starter almost average and a good bench piece. Most bench players have one good skill they are good at:defense or power, or speed....Ehire is across the board average in all things but an above average base runner. He is like the floor of Gordon.
  15. Let me rephrase. I think if Ehire said I want to be closer to 1.8 million that MLB is projecting or lets go to arbitration he may have been released. There is always a choice.
  16. He belongs in a long line of Twins reserves. Al Newman, Randy Bush, Jeff Reboulet, Nick Punto, almost Grossman...his time here was too short, Gene Larkin....Im sure you can think of others. But we usually have a few decent long term reserves on this team. Why not Ehire too? I think he resigned here cause he knows he will get more game time here.
  17. Looks like the Twins kept Grossman until they signed Cron to a lesser than projected amount. I wonder if the Twins told Cron if he didn't sign they would non-tender him and sign Grossman. and because Cron signed Grossman gets let go. I will say i was for keeping him one more season. We don't have a lot of on base threats in our lineup as is.
  18. The time to get Ramirez was last season. When we had numerous holes in the lineup in the first half and we were still trying to compete. I would turn the page from here, but I wouldn't be opposed to a minor league signing later on in the offseason if it looks like we may have AB for him in spring training. If he could be a part time 1B/ DH/ RF then maybe he could be good for 400-500 AB during the season on a low base salary if he wants to play. But Ramirez is someone I wouldn't sign until after all the chips have fallen for the offseason.
  19. Didn't May miss a month with the back injury the year before the UCL tear? but yeah he was a rock up to the back injuries which occurred when he moved to the pen. I like May as a starter but if he isn't starting this year then he will likely be a pen guy from here on out. I would like to give Romero 1 more year of starting before moving him to the pen. Though that move is on the table. Just if we can make him a top of the rotation starter we need to go that route. Romero does have that potential. I like the idea of Astudillo on a 4 man bench with 1 OF 2 IF and a C with Astudillo being the 2nd IF. 500 AB may be a bit much but 300-400 would be possible if he is producing around an .800 OPS. Also I do think it would be good for us to have him earn his way back on the team. Meaning we have other options too. If Kepler is near Gold Glove in RF then maybe Cave or Grossman if keep him should learn to play 1B. I would rather have some areas where we do have great defense. especially if we get more flyball pitchers. (see Sonny Gray) from an internal prospective we currently have Gordon, Cave, maybe Wade, Rooker, Astudillo and maybe Reed as being ready or almost ready to come up and be a reserve or injury replacement,. pending any AAA FA we sign or waiver claims made in spring training (am I missing anyone here?)
  20. I imagine if teams know his salary and how much is left for the season. I imagine we could pay down a little so we get more than the league minimum covered. If Tampa offered to cover 3 million of the contract Cron signs I bet they may have found a taker. for us we will need an injury and then Cron would be a good pick up since he only has a 1 year commitment.
  21. I am fine with the move provided the Twins keep Grossman and Austin for the time being and do more to improve the team. Grossman has a 3 year track record of .360+ OBP which we can really use especially now that Mauer retired. Also I do hope the Twins sign someone like Cruz to DH. a good 1 or 2 year deal or best yet a 1 year deal with a 1 year option that becomes guaranteed with 400 or 500 ABs give or take. If the Twins want to win on the cheap then beefing up the power department is the way to go.
  22. I think Cron was DFA'd because his career going into last season was 106+ adjusted OPS and last season was 123 adjusted OPS. The Rays think he will regress back closer to 106 instead of remaining at 123. Plus Cron is not that good at getting on base which hurts his value and he is a neutral fielder. I don't think getting Cron will prevent us from getting a DH necessarily. We could go after Cruz. I think Cron provides competition for Austin as neither cost much and if one gets released at the end of spring training the cost will be around 1 million. 1/6th the season wage termination pay. I really hope we go after someone like Cruz cause power is cheap and we could have a powerful lineup next season at a reasonable cost. a low cost lineup with lots of power example: CF Buxton SS Polanco 3B Sano DH Cruz 1B Austin / Cron LF Rosario RF Kepler / Cave 2B Dozier / Kinsler/ Cabrera / or someone else who can hit 10+ HRs C Garver / Castro
  23. 9 starters and 4 bench and 12 pitchers. I listed Garver and Platoon 1B twice as the second have of the starters and on the bench since they will be on the bench.
  24. Realistically I think we sign Kinsler over Dozier but Dozier has more power for my example lineup.
  25. If we sign a 1B to platoon with Austin that can also play 3B could work. That way we can still sign DH Cruz and 2B Dozier or Kinsler and have lots of power in the lineup. Buxton Polanco Sano Cruz Rosario Dozier Austin / platoon Kepler Castro / Garver Jon Jay as 4th OF Adrianza IF Garver C Platoon 1B - 3B Deep line up and diversified bench. And protection from slumps from Buxton and Sano.
