  1. You should break down who you see as candidates for the rotation in your conclusion. Otherwise good article. For our rotation next year we have Berrios and possibly Martin I can see the Twins picking up his option if they are sure they can't sign 2 of Odorizzi, Pineda, and Gibson to extensions. What I see happening in the rotation is Berrios, resign one of our FA pitchers, I'm not sure about our third d starter, Martin and a rookie. We have lots of pitchers coming up and if Martin pitches the same this year he may have competition for a job at some point next year. Also we seem to have enough quality that we can cycle through pitchers again in our bullpen like we did this year. So we will have Rogers, Duffey, May, Dyson, and a big competition. I would list Littel for a bullpen spot but he may be in competition for the rotation still. I could see us signing an arm even reupping Romo.
  2. You trade prospects for a starting pitcher and you trade Eddie for prospects.
  3. I'm fine with Gibson. He has pitched almost 1100 innings for us. I would be cool with a contract extension for him for up to 3 years. He could get his 100th career victory here.
  4. I want to see Cave hit at least 10 HRs. (This will tie the Twins with 12 players with 10+ HRs on a team) I want to see Polanco and Gonzales top 20 (This will give the Twins a record 9 players with 20+ HRs on a team) I want to see Garver, Sano, and Rosario top 30 HRs (this will give the Twins 5 players with 30+ HRs I think the record is 4 which by the way the 1987 Twins were 2 HRs from Puckett away from that feat.) and I want to see Cruz, Kepler and maybe Sano if he can go on a big enough tear hit 40 HRs. (2 or 3 40+HR hitters on the team)
  5. from the article it looks like we will have the opportunity to trade talent at peak value for good prospects to keep the talent pipeline going from the farm. With us becoming contenders it will be harder for us to build through the draft and farm without being able to acquire good prospects too.
  6. The ones I'm sure will get called up:.Smeltzer, Thorpe, Harper, Grateral, Littel and Astudillo. The maybes include: Stewart, Hildenburger, Poppen and Romero. That's a lot of pitchers. Wade also makes sense if healthy and that speed guy specifically for pinch running. If the Twins want more on their bench. Everyone else listed deserves a call up but won't likely get it unless the Twins go for 40 total on the team. It's nice to have more than 40 players who deserve to be on the roster.
  7. I did want to add that Parker, Morin, and Magill have been solid with their new teams. Only Mejia is still struggling.
  8. I thought no the decision to pull Pineda after 5 was aided by the fact most of the bullpen had 2 days of rest.
  9. but most of these hitters are just entering their prime which means these players are more likely to figure things out. also with the lineup so deep, you can't really pitch around anyone. So that happens significantly less here than in other years past or future I imagine.
  10. Surprises this year include: Harper (no one expected anything from a 30 year old rookie who was in AA the previous year) Duffy (no one expected anything) Arraez (no one expected .350 AVE) Sano (no one expected .900 OPS) Castro (no one expected .800 OPS) Garver (no one expected .900+ OPS) Kepler (no one expected 40 HR) Cruz (no one expected 1.000 OPS) Adrianza (no one expected an .820 OPS) honorable mention Zack Littell (no one expected a 3.60 ERA in half a season of relieving) I like that this list is long.
  11. I remember in 1987 the Twins came within 2 HRs of having 4 players hit 30 HRs on the same team in the same season. Hrbeck 34, Brunanski 32, Gaetti 31 and Puckett 28. The Dodgers 1977 team with Baker, Cey, Garvey and Reggie Smith achieved this once. fast forward to 2019 and boy do i just feel a lot older....but this Twins team currently has Cruz with 32 and Kepler with 33 HRs already. Rosario is at 27 and both Sano and Garver are at 23. The Twins could end up with 5 players with 30 Hrs. They could also be a team with 2 or 3 players with 40 HRs if Sano gets more playing time and continues at his current rate. The Twins also have 11 players with 10 HRs already. and they already have 6 players with over 20 Hrs already. Kepler 33 Cruz 32 Rosario 27 Sano 23 Garver 23 and Cron 20 We also have Schoop 17, Polanco 17 and Gonzales 14 for a potential 9 players with 20 HRs in a season. Is that a record? Castro also has an outside shot at 20 making it 10 potential Twins with 20 HRs in a season. This is definitely fun to watch as the 2019 Twins are set to become the most powerful team of all time smashing the Major League Team HR record for a season. How do you see this playing out. How many 20 HR hitters will we have? How many 40 HR hitters?
  12. Does anyone know the status of Tyler Wells? I know he had surgery TJ I think, but I haven't heard anything about his recovery and he was a top 30 prospect at one point.
  13. What happened with Balazovich? Everyone was talking about him for a while and now crickets.
  14. Acquiring a starter like Ray, Stroman, Minor, Bumgarner, Syndergaard, or Greinke would do several things for the Twins. 1. We could skip Pineda a few times in the rotation to help limit his innings. 2. Send Martin to pen so we have a 2nd lefty. 3. Insurance from injury. What happens if a pitcher gets injured? 4 Incremental improvement is still improvement and every little bit is gonna help.
  15. Brandon

    Hate losing Davis....

I wonder where Jaylin Davis ranks on SF prospect list? SF system is not near as good as ours and I didn't see Davis on their updated top 30 list on mlb.com
  16. A Terry Ryan move, he traded Matt Lawton for Rick Reed a number 3/4 starter. Another was for Shannon Stewart Another was for Castillo at 2B Really I thought of these trades the Lawton trade didn't fully go as planned cause they didn't get the second trade pulled off as planned. But the other two were prospects for lesser names that really helped the team.
  17. Its gonna be a 1965 World Series rematch Dodgers vs Twins. Count on it. we even have the power lineup vs one of the best lefty pitchers of our generation.....
  18. The Twins already have a top ranked offense and a top 5 or 6 rotation. Though could use another top end starter. The bullpen is essentially fixed now. So it's not like there were lots of available options to make this team better. But I really wanted a wow move. I got 2 solid move. Very Terry Ryan like.
  19. Just so I can see this on paper, our bullpen is now: Rogers Dyson Romo Harper May Duffy rotating minor leaguers like Littell, Thorpe, Smeltzer, Stashak, or Poppen or Romero So the big variable will be if Graterol or Acala can come up out of the pen for September to show they can be an extra power arm in the pen for a playoff run. I feel like this is the floor of what I would want to see our team do so I'm not furious but not thrilled either. I am borderline content but not quite is probably a better way to state that. And I do feel like we kept our most important prospects in all of this. So there's that.
  20. I want to say that is OK to overpay to get the last piece of the puzzle for our team. We need at least 1 more good to great reliever. and if we could get Thor.....cool. I believe with our offense...It will never be this good again,,,, and our rotation is solid enough.... and with a better bullpen we could win the whole F'ing thing. I don't understand how the author of this article can say we are on pace to win 88 games over a 162 game season and say we can't win this year and not back it up. Baseball is not yet like Basketball, where you know who is gonna do well in the playoffs and who isn't. In baseball, you still have to play the games.
  21. I just wanted to say this is a real good article. Good job Patrick Wozniak.
  22. In terms of who we receive I hope to here from the Mets on Noah Syndergaard. But I think Minor from Texas is the more cost effective option or Stroman from Toronto. As far as relievers go ...maybe Arizona or Giles from Toronto....
  23. This is definitely a fun one to consider. The pain of trading likely Lewis and some other top prospect. Likely Graterol who may end up as good as Syndergard. We do have lots of mid rotation prospects rising up in the minors but only Graterol as a potential ace. Maybe Balozovich.....
