    If Pineda throws around 130-140 innings of 4.50 ERA we break even on his contract. I don't think he should be much over 150 for the year tops. He will probably have another IL stint and maybe some time in the pen to help limit his innings. I don't think the Twins need to go out and add a starter as we have plenty of fill one during his IL times.

    I like that last night I saw the Twins down by 1 with 6 outs to go and I felt confident that we would get a run or two. We got 3 .....

    Of the two my preference is Kimbral because our top 4 in the rotation are pitching great and that is good for a playoff rotation. The 5th spot can go back and forth with Smeltzer, Pineda, Kohl Stewart, and Mejia and others. If we sign Kimbral we may not need to make any other moves at the trade deadline as the whole roster is firing on all cylinders right now.

    The way I see things. We have 5 good enough starting pitchers. Though we can add one in July is fine by me. We have 6 relievers pitching good right now so I'm fine waiting there too as we have 1 or 2 spots available to give others chances. Signing Kimbral or trading for a relievers does make sense but we don't have to rush into anything either. Our offense is awesome. Our bench is real strong too. Only the Yankees have a stronger bench, maybe Houston but that's it. We are sitting good and don't have to make any moves until late July. Maybe add a starter, likely add a reliever, and only if injury would we add in offense and even that is a maybe.

    They could sign him to a minor league deal with a promise of a promotion after 30 days...I'm indifferent on Kimbral. I would like the Twins to sign him. But not at the Price he wants. I'm thinking 2/24 or 26 tops. I don't want to get stuck in a bad contract. But at the above price Is a good risk point to me .

    Looking at the bullpen its the last 2 spots that have dragged us down. I think Mejia will be fine. We just need to find someone to adequately fill the last slot and we will be fine. We have lots of internal options at this point and as much as I would like to sign Kimbral, He costs a lot more than should be spent for that last slot. Even if he is bringing another elite arm to the pen.

    Odorizzi is still showing he isn't more than a 5 inning pitcher again however. Martin Perez has flashed a 97 MPH fastball which is promising but he has been wild and hittable. and Pineda looks to be great and is still being brought back up to a 6-7 inning pitcher slowly. I don't know if we have enough reinforcements in AAA or AA for the rotation but I think we should take a closer look into offering Keuchel a 1 to 3 year deal and get him going if Perez doesn't turn a corner real soon. The added benefit of Keuchel is his ability to pitch 6-7 innings consistently saving some wear and tear on the bullpen. The offense is too good not to take an extra step like this.

    We have the deepest bench I've seen since I became a fan in 87 at the age of 12. We also have 6 starters in the majors and several more in AAA waiting for an opportunity. It would be helpful to make our pen deeper with a Kimbral signing. As that would make the rotation situation justifiable. Our offense is deep with lots of options in case we loose 6 everyday starters again. Plus we still have a deep system for trade, development and to fill in for injuries. Not bad. But great if we get the Kimbral.

    Under Macphail we not only won 2 world series but he engineered the first player opt out clause with Jack Morris, gave us Major league baseballs highest paid player in the game. Though we didn't go to the world series under Ryan, he did have many prospect heists as gm he hit on so many that rival GMs did become more cautious trading us prospects. As much as I'm a fan of Ryan, I have to go with Macphail.

    If we signed Kuechel, we could put him on the DL and he can spend up to 20 days on rehab. This gives him the extra reps he needs and he could be ready by the time we need a 5th starter. I think the main idea is do you think we have enough depth to handle 2 or 3 injuries in the rotation at the same time. Currently our 6th starter seems solid to me, Mejia. Next we are looking at Stewart, Gonsalvez, Littell, Thorpe, DeJong, and others.... Do you see anyone or two in the group you are comfortable giving 4 to 10 starts to? If so then we only need to sign Kimbral. If not then we should look at another starter. Though I think Gio Gonzales would be a cheaper option with a similar results to Kuechel.

    We have to remember last year payroll was higher do to 50 million windfall from sale of bamtech. So we may be tapped out at this point. But I think a 3 year 51 million with option for 4th year is fine. If we can get him cheaper than do it.

    The good news for this season is that we have 6 or 7 20 HR guys in the offense or 4 who have hit 30 and a 5th with 28. Sano won't be the out every opposing pitcher is focused on this year as our 1 big power hitter. That lowers the pressure on Sano a little and makes a .240/ .320/. 480 a fine season.

    Last season we had a vortex of bad things happen to the Twins. C Castro was out out for the year by the end of the first month of the season. 1B Mauer missed just over a month with concussion symptoms 2B Dozier was hurt but kept playing cause everyone else was hurt. SS Polanco missed hakf a season to drug suspension. 3B Sano missed 6 weeks or so to loose weight and start over. OF Buxton missed most of season to headaches, injury, roster mismanagement, performance. Rosario missed a few weeks too. DH Morrison was so bad and we had no choice but to keep playing him cause there was no one else. We had Adrianza, Escobar, and eventually Garver as solid replacements. Cave too. Now we have replacements for the replacements. likely bench: Gonzales Adrianza (DL to start season) Austin or Duda Garver With these guys ready to be called up: Astudillo Cave Torres And there is still Gordon and Rooker who could be available as well at some point this season. That is a lot of flexibility and safety net after the disaster of last season as all thise guys deserve to be on a major league roster at this point. And that is why the bench was constructed this way. Layers of depth for worst possible outcomes. On pitching I think management feels we have this same kind of depth internally and that is why only a high end pitcher will make a difference. (Lets get Kimbral already).

    Astudillo will start the season in the minors because he has options. But he will spend time with the team. I see the bench as Gonzales, Adrianza, Garver, and one of Cave, Austin, Torres, Astudillo, or Duda. My best guess is Cave. The real takeaway is we have a really good bench. Several of these guys could start on other teams.

    I think the bench shapes up as: Marwin Gonzales Adrianza or Torres (we need a good SS backup) Garver Cave, Austin, Astrudillo, Duda from left to right is more likley to stay vs less likely. (Astrudillo has options so you know he now wont start in April in Minnesota). Anyway you look at it, this is a really good bench. a few of these guys could start on some teams.

    I would definitely send down someone with options as injuries can happen anytime and having someone ready who should be up in AAA is better than someone who is just the hot hand at the moment. Honestly I would send ROmero down initially as he can get more used to relieving at AAA. but numerous scenarios can still play out. If Magill is awful in spring training he could get cut. if he is solid he likely stays. Hildenburger could get sent down if his struggles continue. He would have the advantage over Romero going into spring training with all of the time he already has in the majors. There are also injuries and "injuries" that can change the equation too. so it will be fun to watch. like I said its better than watching which AAAA reliever will make the team.

    I wonder if the Twins offered 16 million per season with incentives to 19 million if that could get him signed.

    There was talk of Madson earlier. I think the Twins probably floated the idea of 1-3 million for the season (just speculating here) and Madson said he would rather retire than sign a below market contract. I do hope the Twins will sign another reliever but it is possible that Magill could have another good season in him. He may even improve. but if not if he is in the last bullpen spot and we do have other options to try out there. Though having more good pitchers is a better idea however.

    I know the Twins were interested in Madson, but he wants to be paid nire ir he is willing to retire. Adam Warren or Nick Vincent are probably our next targets.

    It is nice to see legit options instead of relying on the Bautista/ Rondell White/ Crede/ past prime player on last leg of career....although Duda is close to that group but still good if platooned.
