  1. Just so I can see this on paper, our bullpen is now: Rogers Dyson Romo Harper May Duffy rotating minor leaguers like Littell, Thorpe, Smeltzer, Stashak, or Poppen or Romero So the big variable will be if Graterol or Acala can come up out of the pen for September to show they can be an extra power arm in the pen for a playoff run. I feel like this is the floor of what I would want to see our team do so I'm not furious but not thrilled either. I am borderline content but not quite is probably a better way to state that. And I do feel like we kept our most important prospects in all of this. So there's that.
  2. I want to say that is OK to overpay to get the last piece of the puzzle for our team. We need at least 1 more good to great reliever. and if we could get Thor.....cool. I believe with our offense...It will never be this good again,,,, and our rotation is solid enough.... and with a better bullpen we could win the whole F'ing thing. I don't understand how the author of this article can say we are on pace to win 88 games over a 162 game season and say we can't win this year and not back it up. Baseball is not yet like Basketball, where you know who is gonna do well in the playoffs and who isn't. In baseball, you still have to play the games.
  3. I just wanted to say this is a real good article. Good job Patrick Wozniak.
  4. In terms of who we receive I hope to here from the Mets on Noah Syndergaard. But I think Minor from Texas is the more cost effective option or Stroman from Toronto. As far as relievers go ...maybe Arizona or Giles from Toronto....
  5. This is definitely a fun one to consider. The pain of trading likely Lewis and some other top prospect. Likely Graterol who may end up as good as Syndergard. We do have lots of mid rotation prospects rising up in the minors but only Graterol as a potential ace. Maybe Balozovich.....
  6. I think Syndergard makes the most sense in that he would be here for 3 more seasons and be a top of the rotation arm. For that I would include one of Lewis or Killeroff but not both. What would the Mets want back in a trade? likely Lewis for either SS or more likely CF, Graterol for the rotation and another lower level prospect or two. I think the key is if you think we can sign Buxton to an extension or if you think the extra year of control through 2022 gives us enough time to win. as of right now Lewis is lining up to be Buxtons replacement if need be. Our IF seems pretty set for several years if Arreaz is our new 2B starting next year. Polanco has 4 years left on his new deal. We will need a new DH and 1B after next season so 2 of Killeroff, Larnach, and Rooker will be needed. We will really have a nice rotation if we resign one of our three free agent starters after the season. in this scenario. Berrios Syndergard Martin FA (Gibson, Pineda or Odorizzi) Thorpe/ Smeltzer/ Stewart/ Poppen/ Wells/ Jax/ Balazovich / Colina and others....
  7. I think your trade proposal of Larnach, Thorpe, and Gordon, plus Jeffers or another good prospect could get us Boyd from Detroit.
  8. My expectations for Astudillo has always been a .260 - .280 hitter with average power. He hits enough to be a bench player but not enough to be a starter. His time in the majors won't be long either. 4-5 seasons maybe with 1200 or so plate appearances is my over under for his career. It would be cool if Arreaz was the next Tony Gwynn....
  9. Didn't the Two s sign a reliever or 2 recently like Krill or somone else that could get a **** too?
  10. Also I would be surprised if we didn't resign Gibson to a 3 year 48-51 million contract. If there is a team with enough money available to sign one of our free agent pitchers it's gonna be us. The big question is which one and how much?
  11. Little seems to found a home in the pen. Keep an eye on him as he is likely one of our mid relievers moving forward.
  12. Man that 2012 draft was good for us. Buxton, Berries, Rogers and Duffey. That's basically 3 allstars and a nice multi-year filler/ possible solid reliever.
  13. For this season they will stick with Schoop at 2nd unless he basically gives up. Arreaz will get more time as long as he keeps hitting but Schoop will remain the starter. He is paid to be a starter. Now with the way Arreaz is hitting he may push Schoop once or twice a week into the bench. But Arreaz will get his other at bats moving around the diamond and he will also spend some time on the bench as well.
  14. Also consider the Twins will have a huge 40 man roster crunch after the season. I would be looking to trade several of the fringe players who should/ could be added over the higher ranked prospects. We only need 1 or 2 relievers and maybe a starter. So it's not like we have to make lots of trades. Just one or two. They could trade several guys clearing the 40 man so we don't loose much in the rule 5 draft next off-season.
  15. Also note we will have an opening at 2B so having Gordon to compete with Arreaz makes sense.
  16. Gorden and Rooker for both Madbum and Smith and some cash seem about right. Probably a little high honestly. Both those players should be big Leaguers. And 6 years of low cost production from both is alot to give for Half a season from 2 players. I would rather send more to Toronto for Giles and their starter. But we do have lots of prospects to choose from. Maybe instead of Gordon we could trade Gonsalves....
  17. Right now there are only a few teams clearly in buy or sell mode. With the uncertainty of how the market will play out and there is time and more buyers the cost to acquire tends to be higher. As more teams fall out and become sellers then the market will normalize. The other factor is those who are going for the wildcard may only be marginal buyers and not want to move their prospects or they could be out of it but close enough to not want to sell. Lastly this is the first year of the full cut off being July 31. So we will see if the market heats up a few days earlier to ensure sellers take advantage of their short term assets. Will be fun to watch. Hope we get some good stuff.
  18. Well I don't expect us to trade for David Price and his 30 million per year contract. Though I bet we wouldn't have to trade much to get him.....but I see the Twins doing what is needed to get done to get us players. Rooker is a great trade chip as is Gordon and Larnarch. We will not have a place for these guys for a few years with others coming up.
  19. Someone more in the know should do a similar article with the development of Cody as a writer from a blogger to All Star Writer here at Twins Daily. Would be a good way to show others a development path too
  20. I just wanted to say this is a real good post. Jeurys Famillia, Kelvin Herrera, and Soria were the ones I was most interested in signing if I remember correctly. Not including Ottavio because we new we had no chance there. I wasn't too concerned with the pen cause I thought Romero, Mejia, Hildenburger and that FA pitcher we released that cost 8.5 million would be good.
  21. One thing that could also be affecting the team is all the minor Nick's requiring 10 day IL stints. Let's see Buxton, Rosario, Cron on offense after Cruz, Garver, and Sano... Didn't Pineda go for a spell, and Odorizzi. No one really in the pen accept Mejia and they are doing well.....
  22. Today would have been a perfect day to let Thorpe make his MLB debut in the 9th inning. Also it's good that Kepler set his career high in HRs before the All Star break. You don't want to have that last one hanging over your head as something you didn't get done before a mini vacation.
  23. I agree with Brock. The bullpen really needs another high quality arm.
