    So far Pineda is still available and there hasn't been much movement on the trade front for starting pitchers. The Twins can still sign Pineda. They did sign their rebound candidate in Bundy. U was thinking Kluber ..... On trade Bassitt makes the most sense as he will cost the least od the big names and we should have Oakland throw in their SS to bring the cost down even more. Plus Bassitt will be a reasonable cost extention candidate. 3 year 45 million give or take.

    I was hoping for Kluber to be our injured rehab pitcher but Bundy will do. I still expect the Twins to resign Pineda. That leaves us with trading for Bassit or....... I can live with that rotation. Winder or Duran will be up soon. so someone can get injured by bad results if need be.

    In planning SS for next season I see our first starting pitcher signed in FA is a fly ball pitcher. So we target a more fly ball pitchers and.... Anyone can fill in at SS. Maybe a platoon of Gordon and Polanco until we can call up Lewis or Martin......

    Texas has nor real contracts on the books this offseason I think it was less than 6 million. Their arbitration class is really low too. So they have a completely blank slate heading into the offseason. So paying 2 players 50 million doesnt create problems yet.

    The 11 million option tells us he is going to start. I see him being in the Katz mode of pitchers. 30 starts and 150 innings. If he can keep the era around 4 he will be valuable in that role and the 11 million option is picked up.. There are still lots of solid starters to sign or trade for. I wonder if we might be able to make a bid for Story or Correa if they linger on the market. That would be the benefit of signing inexpensive starters. If we get Pineda back reasonably then trade for a starter making 10 million that leaves us with 25 million or so for a SS and reliever.

    I think the minor leaguers are unaffected by the lockout and should have a normal spring.... Right.....

    I think Bassitt is the best player to acquire. Being 32 or 33 and with 8.225 million in career earnings, he is probably the most anxious to sign a 3 or 4 year contract in the 40 to 65 million range. Knowing Oakland they will want value and quantity. Celestino, Moran and Sands and Cave to fill in as the prospects develop. A cheap lotto ticket for them.

    I think it depends on how close you think at least 2 of the starters are to being ready for a tryout at the MLB level. If you think an 8 to 10 starts for Bundy then give Winder a chance..... I say 2 starters because if Ryan shows he needs a breather in AAA then is Duran ready for his chance. Or if someone gets hurt... At what point is Balazovich or Sands or.... Ready? All Star Break maybe? I am not defending the Bundy signing but I do get it. I do wish we would have signed Pineda to a 2 year deal. I do think that is a perfect contract with all the minor league depth we have.

    Shoemaker had a longer.leash because our number 6,7,8,9 starters were all injured and there was no one else ready to step in. He was gone as soon as there was.

    On the plus side we will have money for a Story signing at this rate. We will just have to out-score our opponents 8-7, 9-8, 7-6.... to win games. Also we will have the ability to release pitchers or swap out with those who develop in the minors. We have lots of depth and more on the way. now we just need the #3 and #2.5 starter

    I don't mind this signing provided we get 2 more good pitchers. I am not as thrilled with it.. Maybe Pineda and a starter from Oakland. So i can feel better.... .

    If we can help Bundy control the HRs allowed he can be good. He doesn't walk alot of people and he K's a fair amount. but he gives up 1.5 HRs per 9 and last year 2.0 per 9. in 2020 he allowed .7 and was in the CY Young conversation. His other numbers hits, walks, and K's are pretty constant.

    I doubt anyone is impressed. If Bundy can real in his homers he can be good.

    Stroman just signed with the Cubs too. I wonder if we will be able to get Pineda signed before the lock out now.... Then we would only have to focus on a trade for a starter.

    So thanks for all the ideas posted here. It makes more sense. I figured one of the 2 would be non-tendered but both seemed a little like shooting yourself in the foot. I mean I know we need players that can go down to the minors but we have Rogers, Duffey, Thielbar and Alcala as guys who will not get sent down next year leaving us with 4 spots. seems like having one of Minaya or Coloumbe wouldn't hurt the roster management. On a seperate note, will they be able to negotiate a split contract during the lockout? sign Minaya to a minor league contract with a major league salary component?

    I would think Minaya has shown enough to justify a 1 million contract. I mean even if his era goes up a run, he provides value at the back of the pen.

    Not sure I get the first 2 moves. I thought they earned a chance to make a million each next season. That is low cost right?

    Is this gonna hurt our ability to trade for a good SP from them?

    I agree he doesn't have the stats. He needed at least 800 more AB with around a .730ish OPS minimum to get there. and even then he would just be at the bottom of the line of qualifying this way.

    There are still lots of options out there for starters in the range of where I expect the Twins to play. I think a trade for one is out there, a Pineda signing, and ........ I would actually be happy if the Twins just resigned Pineda before the lockout to a 2 year deal. I am not as high on Ray as others. I am fine if we sign him and fine if we don't. The Twins front office met their critical objective with me in terms of getting Buxton resigned. While last year was awful for the Twins FO in picking FA, they have had success there in the past. as long as whoever they sign get a full spring training in, (meaning if they sign a starter during spring training, then that pitcher should start the season on the DL so they can get a more complete spring training in and be able to compete when they arrive in the Twin Cities). Then I am good.

    Tori checks lots if extra boxes for reasons to be in the Hall. Minority, great with team mates, media, loved by fans, winner, so if you can justify with counting stats like 900XBH or 2600 hits or 525 2Bs or 375 HRs 1500 RBI, 9 gold gloves and 200 career steals. All of which were within possibility with 2 more seasons, Torii would be in the Hall. With 800 or so more ABs he would likely hit or been close to those numbers ....

    I would tender all of them. The most questionable decision is a low cost decision that I hope the FO isn't too worried about. Coloumbe is the biggest question and at 800k or 1 million is not too much for a pen arm. Rogers probably depends on progress from surgery. But I don't see nontendering him.

    So if we can sign a pitcher now before the lock out...... Perfect...... We would be set up to trade for a starter and sign a desperate pitcher at a cut rate due to spring training being underway..... Too bad Kluber signed already....

    Super 2 arbitration was set at 2.116 this offseason and Arraez is at 2.121. So it seems he qualified for arbitration. I guess that's already included in most offseason planning but now its confirmed.
