  1. Does this count as a team improvement transaction?
  2. I think if the Twins can go sign Pineda to be a 4th starter in the 2 year 22-24 million. I would be fine with the Twins signing Gausman to a Martin Perez style contract of a 1 year with option contract. That would still leave us plenty of money to sign a starting pitcher like Bumgarner, Wheeler, or Ryu to a contract.
  3. Polanco is a good doubles hitter whether he hits home runs it not. I see Polanco as a 30-40 2Bs a season player depending on ABs. He also can be counted on for a solid average .270-.290. as far as HRs go I see a consistant 10-15 with 20 a possibility. Even without the HRs he provides value by being available and good OBP. With all the power on our team I would think OBP would be more important moving forward. That's why Arreaz is so valuable to us.
  4. I'm fine with either option. But I think it makes sense to bring him back. Now if we get Donaldson at 3B.....
  5. Schoop didn't get as much playing time as anticipated but I feel he slightly outperformed expectations. I was hoping for a .750 OPS and he did better. Was fine defensively and we knew about the low obp. That was baked into the cake. I am happy with what he did and he was also a great sport about Arreaz taking playing time away from him. That speaks volumes of his character and him as a team mate and team player.
  6. That is a savings around 20 million and some inexpensive parts that could play next season.
  7. I wonder if we could get Gray with less prospect haul by taking on a reliever contract? They have 3 I'm sure they want to get rid of. Gray, Davis, and $3-5 million for Rooker, Romero, and Harper or another fringe prospect
  8. Cron is likely to earn 7.7 million in arbitration. I'm sure he would like to come back. I can see the Twins offering an incentive based contract. Like 6 million base with 2 million based on games played/ plate appearances. I think the Twins would like to keep Gonzales as a supersub to fill in for injuries and resting others. If you are set o. Releasing Cron we need a replacement 3rd baseman. Also I thought Sano was not good at digging out bad throws at 1B making him a bad 1B defensively. This in itself is a long debate to be had here on Twinsdaily complete with video and in depth Parker Hageman analysis (nudge, nudge).
  9. As it stands our team really doesn't have many holes. 2 rotation spots and a bullpen spot. So I wouldn't want to trade from the major league team. I can see us trading prospects for a starter or a reliever and that's about it we will sign a backup C for a season it looks like. Someone who can compete with Astudillo and there is the Cron decision. I think we offer a lower guarantee with incentives to slightly more as insurance maybe 7 million with 1 million incentives or 6.5 million with 1 million.... Or sign Moustakas for 4 year 39-45 million. I think Cron is a safer low cost gamble. We have in house options and 3 hitters who could be ready at some point next season so why spend more there. So after looking at it, we will likely trade for a SP if we get rebuffed in FA. And if we do that it will cost prospects.
  10. If we trade for Betts we have to win the World Series or it's all for naught trading Killeroff....could we trade a different prospect instead?
  11. Let's leave off one of Pineda or Gibson, Martin, and School and bring in Wheeler.
  12. Since I can't like this post on my phone, I will just state it. And while I agree with this statement, I was only pointing out why we would trade Eddie. If we can get enough pitching from him to justify going down to 20 HR and 80 RBI at a fraction of the cost it could be justified...I imagine there would be more to a trade like this...
  13. I think the reasons you hear trade Eddie has more to do with other factors like 2 years if control at a price of 22-25 million. We have several strong prospects on the way and several solid players who can hold the position till the prospects are ready at a fraction of the price. And I only hear we should trade for pitching. So if.trading Eddy helps us get better pitching either through trade or cost savings, the we should do it. Otherwise we can wait.
  14. I like it. Kind of like when the Twins signed Morneau to his front loaded extension way back in the day.
  15. also John Gray from Colorado would be a good trade option. Colorado will want groundball pitchers back in a trade. So which Minor Leaguers do we have that do that? Enlow? Balazovich? And Tyler Wells maybe?
  16. Kershaw isn't going anywhere. But another ace who could be available is David Price. He has three years left on his contract and spent most of his career in the AL East. Since Boston would welcome the trade the Twins wouldn't have to give up too much. But Boston would need to pay some of the remainder of the contract maybe $21 million making his remaining contract a three year $25 million per year which is a fair salary for him at this stage.
  17. I think a 2 year 12 million is what he is worth. If he can get 550-650 PA during the 2 years, wouldn't be too far off if he was starting somewhere else. 750-850. Plus the lighter load may allow him to go an extra year or two. He has already made close to 40 million for his career and a 2 year deal will push him past 50. Also with the Twins likely going to the playoffs that has to be a factor to consider. If I were him, I would at least be interested in a 40-50% playing time here on a 2 year deal if the money was right.
  18. There is a pitcher with a large 3 year commitment remaining on a team that wants to cut payroll. If Boston would pay down Price's contact a little we probably wouldn't have to give up too much talent to get him. Have us responsible for 4 years 60-75 million of the 96 million and Boston gets to lower their payroll.
  19. Don't forget Wells is coming back from injury and I think he was Twins Daily pitcher of the year last year....
  20. Cron hit well before his injury. If he is good to go by Spring training then I say bring him back for 1 more year. Castro. I would sign him to a 2 year contract at around 6-7 million per season to be the 40-45% of the time Catcher. Romo a 1 year 3-4 million is fine. more than that probably not. Schoop and Perez are definitely not coming back. though Schoop did a good job so he should get offers this offseason. Gibson, Odorizzi. and Pineda. I am fine with bringing back 1, 2, or all 3. Once a player like Gibson has been around a long time, I like to see them stick around even past their shelf life so I will leave that decision to management but I am fine with bringing Gibson back because I think he can be a solid 4th starter for us. One who could win 12-15 games in a season. It all depends on costs and other moves made.
  21. Well at least this disaster will be over soon. The Yanks are coming to sweep and we are going to let them .....then off to the off-season.
  22. I'm going for a rematch of 65 where the Twins take on the Dodger's.
  23. What is the official HR count vs the Tanks HR count. We should have a post with the HR count watch vs Yanks.
