  1. Kansas City offense is largely driven by three player. One of those players will now be out the next 6-8 weeks. He is hitting similar to Santana but with 97 RBI. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/08/vinnie-pasquantino-to-miss-six-to-eight-weeks-with-broken-thumb.html
  2. resetting expectations on the return of your 50 million per season investments. ouch
  3. While I totally agree with this post. I just wanted to point out how far away from the topic of claiming Rogers on waivers this is. I would like to see the Twins do something to bolster the pen but I think the real issue is the offense. they are not consistently scoring enough runs. The bullpen has to be perfect every time out with how we are scoring lately. its either a few runs or 6+ every 5th game. Scoring should be 4 runs a game + over half the time and its not.
  4. With the Twins Tonkin is averaging 24 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched.
  5. coming into this season the rotation was 6 starters deep. I suspect if the budget wasn't such an issue we would have signed a reliever to a contract as we didn't have many issues coming into the season. a hitter, bench and bullpen maybe a number 5 starter since we didn't know Woods-Richardson was going to be good this season, but we got DeSclafani before he was injured. I said all that to say we didn't pay for a reliever this offseason because of the budget. We aren't going to sign a 25+ million starter after signing a 21 million starter but 1 reliever at 8-10 million doesn't break the bank on a 160 million budget. on a 125 million with fixed costs designed for a 150 million budget does. I don't think paying for a reliever is their preferred method of finding them either, but I don't think they rule it out either. We did go into this season with lots of assumed depth. maybe letting Bowman walk was not a good idea this last time.
  6. When Festa gets back on a roll, it will be a Festivus for the rest of us! hopefully the one HR is it from him.
  7. Winder should be back up in a few days to help the pen. We should give Richards a few more outings to see if we should replace him with Winder. Also it’s about time for Varland to get ready for a bullpen move. That should help shore it up some for the time being. also I wonder if Zebby would have been given a chance to work the 6th inning today if the Twins had scored some runs and had a decent lead.
  8. The Twins were only interested in Maeda on a 1 year deal. If he signed a 1 year deal I bet he would have better results for the Twins but he still would be trending down this year. 120 innings of 4.74 ERA for 12 million while not ideal is not the end of the world either. The Jury is still out on Gray. I feel like he’s been solid this season but there are two more to go. Woods-Richardson has made their exits ok.
  9. He’s tied with Sano at 161 career HRs. Polanco with 112 in Minnesota puts the international class of 2009 at 434 career HRs in Minnesota and counting. Too bad Sano flamed out and they couldn’t get to 700 or so ….
  10. Right but there is a lot of venom being spewed his way that he doesn’t deserve. If he was blowing games, I get it. But his one hiccup was understandable. And he is far from an ideal pickup or what we needed as I agree we needed a shut down reliever and didn’t get one. Helll, Nero’s just signed with the Astros. He would have helped.
  11. I think after Zebby gets 2 more starts we move Varland to the pen if Zebby continues to pitch well. And Festa does too. Varland could still go back to the rotation if needed the first few weeks he’s in there and then if needed the last week or two in the rotation we can just do a bullpen game or two to finish out the season.
  12. There seems to be a lot of unwarranted Richards hate or strong dislike at Twinsdaily. He had a bad outing when he came in cold for an injury and pretty much perfect the rest of his games. He should be ranked around Theilbar because that is where his expected ERA around 4.5 would be. I think we should separate the trade which no one likes and it’s not the trade they don’t like, it’s the fact that we didn’t get what we wanted or the team really needed, from the pitcher who is a 6th or 7th man in an 8 man bullpen. Richards has done the job he was acquired to do better than he was expected to do it so far.
  13. Kikuchi essentially cost Festa. I prefer Festa in that sense. on Richards I get being mad at the trade but he has pitched well outside one bad appearance. At least the results you want are there. I think he will get some 6th inning opportunities in meaningful games soon. He is showing he can get outs.
  14. Other than that 1 appearance he has been unscored upon. I would like to see him in a little higher leverage situation though. But like I said before they need to get one of the three remaining options
  15. Seems like part of the problem is not trusting Richards in higher level situations. We need more good relievers and he has done well since that one appearance outlined in your article. Blasting Richards isn’t helpful as he isn’t the problem. With us needing another reliever it’s time for Varland to make the switch. It’s definitely short sighted for the Twins ownership to not give anything for the Twins to get a reliever at the deadline. Good news there is another reliever available in Hector Neris or even Diekman. We have options that are affordable. It’s your move front office what are you going to do?
  16. I think he has one or two more seasons in him. He won’t break the bank because of his age and he is not knocking in more than 85 RBI. 90+ RBI tend to equate to the 10 million plus contract. Also we have Miranda ready to step in and start playing more 1B if Santana slumps next year. I doubt Killeroff is back. Larnarch or Wallner could move to 1B as well when E Rod gets called up. We have options at 1B should Santana decline. If he does he still provides value with his glove. I bet Minnesota could offer him a 6-8 million 1 year extension and he would probably take it as he would get to play for a contender and stay in the same place where he is comfortable and not worry about his next contract during the offseason.
  17. We are not Tampa. I bet when they get normalized streaming and TV contracts settled for around 50-60 million in total revenue then payroll will start to go up depending on attendance. Maybe 140-150 million. Would be cool to see 160-170 million but I’m gonna doubt it.
  18. On defensive metrics, I think using several different ones as a cumulative guide to how their defense has been. Maybe take an average of their place in the different metrics to then get a feel of where they somewhat statistically rank then use the eye test to confirm or re-evaluate and re-rank as needed.
  19. But Jax has affected the outcomes of 56 games compared to the 23 games that Ober has pitched in.
  20. Cole Sands has also been pretty consistent all season. Alcala has too minus the meltdown yesterday. I think Alcala missed a few weeks being on the DL earlier in the year if I remember correctly. and Duran has been effective. That and Jax is what has kept this bullpen effective when it matters most. I do agree that Jax has to be in the running for team MVP this year though as he has handled the most highest pressure situations in games throughout the year. The team MVP will be a fun debate after the season with so many different player types potentially deserving it. A reliever (Jax) a Starting Pitcher (Ober) position player (Santana) bench player (Castro), and Buxton, Correa, Lopez, and Miranda could enter the mix depending how the rest of the season plays out.
  21. I say trade him to Pittsburgh. He is from Pennsylvania. If he breaks out, so what he is helping the Pirates (a small market team you probably root for a little). And former Bench Coach now manager gets credit and a good player if he breaks out. At this point, I think he is a change of scenery guy. The struggles and injuries over 4 seasons is enough. I don’t want to pay him 2 million to stash in AAA because budgets and stuff. I do think he can be a good hitter, but he can now be that for another team. I do wonder what his value is in trade.
  22. Has he been worth 10 million? No! It’s in the article, he is worth 8.6 million so far this year. I’m not moving the needle of his value. Do I mind if we overpaid a little for what he brings to the team? No I do not. I think he does lots of good things here as the pitchers say nothing but good things about him. I do hope he continues to hit. That is fun to watch.
  23. No one on this site was happy when Hoffman or Coloumbe left the team. I think we preferred to have them in the pen and rookies in AAA to start the season. Lots of missed opportunities with losing both of those pitchers. Though I am happy to see Sands improving. I wasn’t sure he would make it. I think Winder is getting better and better too. Henriquez improves our return on the Garver trade if I remember correctly. I would be happy if Blewett came back up and doesn’t blowit🤪. The fun is being patient and watching this all play out.
