  1. I don't see a need for Wacha. We should be at the point with enough decent young arms that we don't need a Bundy type to get through the season. Not saying Wacha is Bundy but he has the potential to be close enough that I'd rather let the young pitchers continue on their journey upward by filling the innings that Wacha would occupy.
  2. We need another bat. A decent one. I don't like the idea of skimming off the slim prospect pile to trade for one and I'd rather not tread water by trading an existing hitter to gain a different hitter and I'd like to keep the young starting pitching depth that we have. So out of the FA's available... I'll take Mancini. For 1B and DH with the occasional OF when necessary. Deepen that lineup.
  3. The Twins asked him to play SS for 4 years. The Twins made the playoffs in 3 of the 4 years that he played SS. This is not failure. That is a player that helped his team win at SS. I understand that they want him to play 2B now. Fine.. I understand that there may be better fielding SS's to choose from. Fine. However... he wasn't a failure.
  4. I don't have the expertise to disagree with your reasoning. I'm sad if it came across as if I was. I'm still saying I don't understand how anyone approves lower level due diligence on that contract. Especially when it is only the 2nd time the organization has crossed the 100 million line on a contract. How many millions or years do you need to out distance before the high level due diligence is necessary? I appreciate your content. I really do.
  5. I was sleeping during med school but there are only 3 scenarios that make sense to me. 1. The Twins were aware of the injury when the committed 105.3 million to him with player opt outs and went through with the deal anyway. 2. The injury worsened over the course of last season. 3. The Owners are asking the front office and medical staff why they didn't know about the injury. Does anyone else have a 4th or 5th scenario that I'm not thinking of?
  6. Thanks for this. There are two paragraphs that I don't understand. I think the most likely scenario is that Correa fell into the Twins lap quickly last year, and everyone recognized it was most likely a 1 year arrangement. So the level of due diligence required by the medical staff is lower. Imaging of all prior nicks/bruises isn't necessary in that case. This time around given the commitment of 10+ years, teams were being more diligent and likely getting new imaging of any body part that had ever been treated for an injury (surgically or not). Thinking it's a 1 year arrangement is logical to me if he performs as hoped. However, the deal was a three year commitment with an AAV over 35 big ones if things go wrong. Injury is perhaps the primary risk of how things could have gone wrong. An underlying injury is something the team would need to be aware of (thrown together quickly or not) since they absorbed all of the risk. Over 100 million dollars worth of risk. Carlos had the opts outs so in my limited thinking, while I understand the difference betwen 12 years and 3, still the level of due diligence required should be at least similar to the level the Giants and Mets put forth. Lower level due diligence makes no sense to me when you consider that 35 million out of a limited budget for a crippled player would cripple the franchise for the next two years.
  7. Change is slow. To make it happen faster, it usually takes something extraordinary. This might be that something extraordinary. An owner that makes the Yankees and Dodgers declare unfairness may be just what the doctor ordered to produce change.
  8. It was an industry assumption that Correa would opt out of that 3 year deal with us and he did. Poor play or injury would have kept him in Minnesota for the duration. So... all the risk was on the Twins... the Twins better have known of any potential injury that would leave them holding a 35m a year bag for 2 additional years. If a more comprehensive physical was required due to the 300 million dollar figure, that would mean a $105 million dollar deal such as the Twins struck is not a big enough deal to require the really really good comprehensive physical. I will remain of the opinion that 70 million dollars of injured player is a huge issue for a team like the Twins. If the Twins didn't know about the injury... that's a system failure that must be addressed.
  9. Is it possible that the Twins have been dipping into the Correa money? Just asking for a friend.
  10. Signing Joey Gallo means we have to trade Kepler or else Kirilloff and Larnach will not play? I understand that September was a long time ago so we may have forgotten but as a reminder I'll mention that we had Cave, Celestino and Garlick in the OF. Why anyone would assume health if they took any kind of notes last season and the year before that and the year before that and the year before that. ? We also saw the Twins move players around and rest last year. I'm not sure why anyone assumes that we won't do the same again this year. We also have the DH position that can be provide playing time if we actually have a healthy log jam. Now if the fears expressed are correct and Gallo is given every day playing time and is producing like the same Gallo as last year, while Kirilloff or Larnach sits on the bench and watches it happen. I promise that I will join you and start calling for new management. We can have an honest competition for playing time between Gallo, Kepler, Kirilloff, Gordon, Larnach... let the best man win. If the Twins truly commit to letting the best man win instead of who they think should win and do this not just in the OF. We could add Mancini to this roster and deepen the competition and lineup a little more and provide insurance against injuries. We could aslo add Segura to this roster and deepen the competition and lineup a little more. Those are probably the only two bats left in the market that interest me. We also have the DH spot to keep players busy. C Jeffers Vazquez 1B/3B Mancini Miranda Arraez or Miranda Arraez Kirilloff 2B/SS Polanco Farmer Gordon or Polanco Farmer Segura OF Buxton Gallo Kepler Kirilloff Garlick or Larnach or Buxton Gallo Kepler Gordon Garlick or Larnach Minor League depth C Get somebody on a minor league deal SS/1B/2B/3B Lewis, Lee, Martin, Julien, 1B minor league deal Aguilar, Dom Smith, someone like that). OF Larnach Wallner Lewis Martin Celestino
  11. I've waited 14 hours with no response. So... I'm going to ask again. If you have "PLENTY of front office insight", share it on Twinsdaily. You have PLENTY of it. After all, I'm under the impression that Twinsdaily does this sort of thing, providing Twins information to a Twins community. Why would Twinsdaily keep this front office insight from the readers. I spend time on this website, I haven't read any front office insight, the real stuff, words from the people involved. Don't give me unidentified sources providing a sentence to someone from the Athletic. When you say it this definitively... people may believe that there is "PLENTY of front office insight on this". Since we currently have owners of this website providing articles of varying interpretations of the events, I will hashtag the owners @John Bonnes @Seth Stohs @Nick Nelson @Brock Beauchamp @Parker Hageman and wait for this "Front office insight". Hopefully not much longer.
  12. 41 million was spent by the Twins shortly after the Giants deal with Correa was announced and before the Correa deal with the Giants fell apart. Making assumptions like everyone else. I assume budgeting is a part of the process. Is it possible that the landscape had changed in between these two amazing San Francisco events?
  13. I don't think we should rebuild but we have articles suggesting that it's time to trade Sonny Gray, Mahle and Maeda. Not signing Correa seemingly is the reason the articles seem to be suggesting this. That is way too much weight being placed on the signing of Correa. We may not have Rodon at the top of our rotation but we have 9 starters that look like they could be decent. Let's see if they are. We have 13 starters currently on the 40 man and 12 if Ronny gets moved to the pen. Mancini might makes us better... Drury might make us better. We have some 40 man trade candidates. So... Correa has signed with Giants... What's next. I don't believe the roster is done. I'll reserve judgement until the off-season is completed.
  14. I typically get the blame whenever someone doesn't go perfectly at my house. I might as well get tagged with this one if blame most be found.
  15. Correa is still only one guy. If this team was just a Correa away... I might feel different. What's next.
  16. I won't argue your thoughts. I expressed concern at the beginning of free agency under the assumption: That chasing a big contract would require freezing the money available for that contract and therefore cause issues offering that earmarked money to others. However... Since the Giants made the deal. The comments... even articles are suggesting that signing Correa is the difference between competing and starting the rebuild now. That is way too much weight on a single player.
  17. I have never seen a year when the Twins had "Too Many" of anything. I have however read multiple articles and posts every year suggesting that we have too many of something. I beg for a log jam. I beg for it. It has literally never happened.
  18. In my opinion, We are placing too much weight on Carlos Correa.
  19. I admit that I don't know why? However... Is the roster done? Claiming "bad roster construction by this FO" with off-season remaining is like walking into a unfinished basement and telling a person while he is working on the basement that the basement looks like ****. If the roster is done... I'll join you in this sentiment.
  20. Ugh... Might be Emilio's middle name. However, I feel it is important to note that this article is a push poll by asking who was "hurt more". More importantly... the article is laying out a comparative damage assessment one year later and asking for opinions. Asking one year later is kind of evil when one team traded for an expiring contract while the other team received 3 players with multi years of control. So... I feel compelled to say it again. Both players acquired by the Padres are no longer with the Padres. The players acquired by the Twins are still Twins.
  21. I'll never understand the need to choose 9 thinking number 10 can't play. Or 11 or 12 or 13 or 14...............
  22. Drafted players are not finished products. Alex Kirilloff, Ben Rortvedt, Jose Miranda, Akil Baddoo and Griffin Jax were the first 5 picks of the last Ryan Regime draft. They have been developed almost entirely under the Falvey/Lavine regime. Who gets the credit? Chicken or Egg while you are at it.
  23. Nicely Done. I don't have the answer either but the out loud thinking was refreshing.
  24. Last year... Not so much. This year. (Shouting off in the distance) What's that? Hey I gotta Run... I'll get back to ya.
