  1. If he's willing, I'd give him a try as a 7th-8th inning guy who just comes in lets it fly.
  2. Personally, I thought Detroit's starting pitcher looked really good. Tall, strong lefty who was hitting the corners with a 95 MPH fastball with movement. He was a first round draft pick. Not chopped liver. You could see in the 5th his velocity dropped about 5 mph......the catcher saw it pretty quick. Hope he's ok. Sands deserved a little better. How is Polanco's play in the 2nd inning considered a hit?? He's a major leaguer and that play HAS to be made with 2 outs. Directly cost us 2 runs. Tigers bullpen is pretty good. I'd swap our bullpen with theirs right now.
  3. Cano is not ready for the big-time. Who's next? Minaya? Canterino? Any word as to if everything was ok physically with Ober? Radio commentators were mentioning his velocity in the last inning was 89-90 instead of his normal 92 range.....
  4. Man....I wish I was as optimistic as you are. Duffey, Stashak Cano, and Megill are just not high-leverage guys right now. And Pagan is not far behind. Romero? Yuck. Henriguez and Strotman aren't getting guys out in the minors Strotman has been terrible. i've heard nothing about Alcala and i think that is bad news. He went on the 60 day really quick, which I fear means more than just a sore arm. I think a move is necessary right now. Just my opinion.
  5. I posted in another thread, but would Gordon and a marginal prospect (Sands, Strotman, or Moran) get us Lopez from Baltimore or Trevino from Oakland in return? I would give Canterino a shot in the bullpen. I think his motion and max effort fits in the pen rather than as a starter. He reminds me of James Karinchak who came up a couple of years ago with Cleveland and was lights out for a while before injuries. Front office can't afford to wait.
  6. Would Gordon and Sands get us a decent relief pitcher? Need to make a move NOW and get Lewis and Kiriloff back on this roster.
  7. Please tell me the failures.....and lets not rehash the Rogers trade as that's up for debate.
  8. You can question the trade all you want.....but the FO being in over their heads? Joe Ryan for 1/2 season of Nelson Cruz? Signing Correa? Dumping Donaldson for Sanchez and Urshela? I think the FO is doing just fine.....they made the trade....they took a shot and in the present time, it's a loss, but I like the fact that they went for it.
  9. Defense can save a pitcher, but in no way would this have been a terrible night for Smeltzer. The run the Royals got in the first was on seeing eye ground balls. The play that Polanco made was on a weak ground ball. Celestino's throw was terrific but essentially was a hard single. I was so impressed with Smeltzer who seemed in complete control and gave up few hard hits. Frankly, he got the 1st out in the 6th and should have been given a chance to finish the inning. He'll be back soon. He has options and others don't. I don't know what other move they could make with Ober coming back, although I think that Stashak is just a body taking up a spot right now.
  10. IMHO.....Lewis belongs in the majors. Why couldn't he DH while learning 3B from major league coaches? Spell Correa a couple of games at SS (while Correa DH's) and work him into 3B.......just seems our lineup would be incredibly well balanced with Royce in it. Two observations from the minor league highlights......Wallner hitting that blast off of a lefty is impressive and Povich hitting 97 mph with his fastball? Holy #%%!!!!! Even if the gun is a little elevated, we haven't had a lefty with that kind of juice since Liriano.......
  11. I do think Sanchez will hit for some more power as the summer rolls on. I know that close doesn't count, but he's hit at least 3 balls right to the fence that have been caught that probably would have been out in that little league park he used to play in LOL
  12. To the naked eye, it appears Sanchez has been at least average behind the plate. He's now back-up catcher with occasional power. Dumping Donaldson (and his contract) was the key.....he's hitting .224 with 3 homeruns in that lineup? Good riddance.
  13. In the current state of pitching, it's almost a plus to get the Tommy John surgery out of the way. They have the new double-banded technique which supposedly prevents the UCL from re-tearing.
  14. I fear he goes someplace and uncovers his potential.....like the Yankees or Red Sox.....seems to happen too often.
  15. Scar tissue tearing away is INCREDIBLY painful.....he had a hit last night and smoked a ball that the SS made a great play on. Maybe that's positive sign.
  16. Enlow hitting 95 MPH on his first start back is still a very positive sign......
  17. It was crazy that with all the camera angles at stadiums these days, there didn't appear to be any that actually showed the tag vs. hand touching the bag. Every angle seemed to be blocked by a body part.....the call on the field was out and there was nothing to overturn it. He sure seemed safe to the naked eye.....
  18. and one giant blown save.....
  19. Would Smeltzer get us a stud middle/closer in a trade? What would it take to get Jorge Lopez from Baltimore? Always had a great arm, now switched to the bullpen?
  20. Just goes to show what a crap-shoot the draft/international signings are......Javier got more money than Vlad, Soto and Tatis.......oh what might have been!!!!!
  21. Thielbar hit 95 his last outing and looked better. I just don't know why his velocity fluctuates so much from game to game......
  22. Anybody else screaming at the TV when Rocco brought in Jax in a 1-0 game? Anybody yelling (louder) at the TV when Rocco brought in Duffey in a 1-0 game which the Twins needed to win? Baseball........funny game.
  23. C'mon....he's not being paid $30 million per season to hit under .200 and be almost hitless with runners in scoring position.
