  1. Didn't mean to infer that I know him, just what I'd heard. He was healthy enough (from what I heard) to pitch at the end of the college season but shut it down to prepare for his pro career. The Rocker route makes no sense. The only reason Rocker went independent ball was the Mets literally didn't make him a contract offer due to medical red flags. I doubt that's the case here. The independent route has not worked out for anyone in the past that i can think of......just my 2 cents.
  2. Rucker and Larnach had 2 of the best college seasons of all time (granted at the D1 level) and they hist .387 and .348 respectively. So anyone hitting over .350 in college is still impressive.
  3. Prielipp is going to sign. He wants to be a pro.....now. He doesn't want to wait. College baseball was his showcase. I saw a couple of Bama games and on at least 2 occasions it was "intimated" that some weren't happy with him that he was sitting out the whole season and not even considering coming back toward the end of the season to help out the team and make a run in the CWS. He sat out to protect his professional stock and avoid any chance at injury. No way he goes back to play another year of college baseball. If the Twins make him a reasonable offer, he will sign. I wonder if the parameters of a deal were already in place.
  4. Texas State is not DII....they were a very good D1 team who could've/should've beat Stanford to advance to the CWS.....they absolutely choked in game 3 of the series and Stanford advanced. I noticed him during the series....he was clearly their best offensive player.
  5. If they are going to get a legit starting pitcher at the deadline, they are going to have to give up some real assets which include Lewis (hope not), Martin and Steer all of whom play similar positions to Lee and Schrobel. I have a feeling this played into their thinking as well.
  6. So we need a starting pitcher, 2 relief pitchers and a hitter, but don't sell the farm? Good luck with that. IMO....we don't need a hitter. Who are you benching? What we need is guys to perform to their contracts (Correa and Buxton) and the young guys to continue to develop (Miranda and AK). If we are going to get Montas or Castillo we are going to have to give up some real assets, not Cave, Gordon, Urshella, etc..... I'm hopeful that Ober can help soon. Maeda as a bullpen piece? Take a run at a real ace, and get an expiring contract relief stud. I'd much rather see Smeltzer and Winder in the bullpen than Smith and Pagan.
  7. Could Sands move to the. bullpen and have a similar increase in velocity as Jax? His slider/curveball could certainly be nasty coming out of the pen for an inning or two, but it sure would be nice to increase the velocity.......
  8. Mediocre fastball? I regularly seeing it hit 96-97......
  9. I'm sure that's true, but what is he going to say??? "I'm really so unhappy here. This city sucks and I hate these guys in the clubhouse?" Not trying to be a dick...... He's obviously still got the stuff and he surely shoved it right up the Twin's behind during that start.
  10. Seriously. Pagan hits 98 mph earlier in the inning and Reyes never even sees a letter high fastball (a pitch the whole world knows he can't hit)......is that all on Jeffers?????
  11. 250 BA, 8 HR, 34 RBI's in 220 plate appearances as a rookie don't seem to indicate he's lacking in any of those things.....he got hurt....he's rehabbed and he's crushing it currently in the only place he's allowed to play. What do you want from him?
  12. I don't understand why this is so difficult. Kiriloff should be your primary first baseman. Arraez has done an admirable job but AK has a very good glove and the right size to play the position. Arraez can focus on what he does best.....DH and continue to hit the crap out of the ball. He can also fill in at 1B and 2B when needed. Miranda has been nice, but he's not Kiriloff who I think is one of those natural hitters that doesn't come along very often. Miranda can split time with Gio and other places. He may have trade value as well.
  13. I'd love to know the rule.....it was called a ball. There was no swing......strange.
  14. Except when he gets through 5 on 59 pitches....... SMH
  15. Larnach and Martin for Montas? I love Larnach and think he's going to be a very good player for a long time.....but you've got to give up something to get something. Kirilloff looks to be getting healthy, but I think teams would be scared to deal for him. The question the FO will need to ask themselves is are you willing to spend the $$$$ to keep him when his contract is up. If not, stand pat and try to acquire some bullpen help.
  16. I really hope I'm wrong, but I think tonight is going to ugly for the Twins......
  17. Seriously,....it's a one run game, and my first thought was "Rocco isn't throwing up the white flag" because he's bringing in Duffey. There is literally no situation that he is pitchable in right now. As for who else? Ahhhhhhhhhh....they just sent out a reliever with a sub 2 ERA....call me crazy, but I think most would take Cotton.
  18. I don't think it's difficult. He's your full-time 1B. Arraez becomes your full-time DH (no more Gary or Jeffers DHing)....Arraez can sub at 1st and 2nd, even third as needed. Kiriiloff is a huge upgrade defensively at 1B although Arraez has done an admirable job. I think Miranda goes down, although he's making that decision more and more difficult. I'm most confused on what they'll do with Royce. He's got to be on the big league club, IMO. Does Gordon have trade value? He's a solid player, but Royce is a future star.
  19. Here is the problem I have and you've hit it on the head. You say that Rocco changes his views or strategies on a game by game basis....depending on how things are going. If that were the case, I'd be happy. But Rocco lost me in Archer's last start vs. the Tigers....he went five innings and was at about 55 pitches. He was pulled and the bullpen blew that game. Afterwards, he's questioned about it and says something like "we had a plan....we were going to use Pagan for two and Duran for two and I didn't want to change that".....(that's not a direct quote but close).....and to me that's the problem He doesn't adjust based on how the game is going. Archer was cruising and yet he was pulled. Rocco has a plan and seems to have very little feel for the game. Smeltzer wasn't cruising yesterday but he was doing fine. Had the 8-9 batters coming up. The move made no sense.....other than the plan.
  20. I did.....I guess I still don't understand the theory. If the tough matchup is in the 8th, you're going to trust anyone else in our bullpen to pitch the 9th? That's my issue. Pitching the 9th is a different animal, regardless of the matchup. Duran can handle it. I don't know if we have anyone else who can.......
  21. They aren't going to use Duran in the 9th when there are tough matchups? Huh? Who is a tough matchup for Duran? I'd take a tough matchup for Duran vs any MLB hitter vs. Duffey. Duran should be the closer. Period. Against any matchup. Occasionally used for 2 inning saves the way the Yankees used to use Mariano Rivera.
  22. Hard to argue that Smeltzer should've been left in???? WTH? Not hard for me. 62 pitches and he's been your best starter the last month. You don't even give him a chance to get the win? You're assuming Springer comes up with a runner on? I'm assuming he pitches a clean 5th and 6th.......both are purely assumptions. Let him go and see if he gets through the inning. If you run into trouble, you can't be concerned about bringing in a reliever with runners on......that's their job at this level. This crap about facing the lineup a third time is little league. It's just Rocco having no feel for the game. As for folks putting Duffey and Pagan in the same category? C'mon. Pagan has given up some solo shots and early in the season his control was erratic, but his stuff is 100000 x's better than Duffey's. I would've felt totally comfortable with Pagan and a 5 run lead. Duffey? I felt sick to my stomach watching him run in from the bullpen (check the game log....I predicted Springer was going to tie the game after Duffey faced 3 batters). He's TERRIBLE and if they send Cotton out and keep Duffey.????? Well it's clear that Duffey must have some incriminating pictures of Rocco on his phone. Finally........Arraez. When does the national media start paying attention? He is simply amazing.
  23. I wouldn't hesitate to take Prielipp is he's there, but I bet the Twins will be overly cautious. It's funny, but IMO having the TJ surgery out of the way is almost a positive with the number of pitchers who ultimately have to have the surgery. I also think Rocker is really intriguing in that spot. I loved the way he pitched at Vanderbilt. It will be interesting to see how he throws in the Independent league.
  24. I've just got a bad feeling that Berrios is going to throw 7 shutout with 10 K's against the Twins.....he will have a little more adrenaline facing the former squad.
