As frustrating as it may be. This is what I fear will happen..More of the same and fingers crossed...

I could see a trade for Jensen and Biggio. I'd like to count on Kirilloff but that's seems like a long shot. Correa @33 long term doesn't fit this Fo's MO

Philly knocked the Braves out..wow didn't see that coming..My picks are still in. Cleveland and Padres. Padres win in game 7. Cleveland brakes curses and including brides maids..With another rain delay.(mother nature loves baseball)..Starting to wish I had put a $20 on this crazy guess in Vegas in the spring. That being said even with our 18 losses in a row. If you win the last game of the season..who will remember the ones before that?

Sorry to see him go but not a surprise. Hopefully they spend that money elsewhere and stop gap SS so we don't have anymore players playing out of position and running into walls...

Ranking the 2023 Free Agent Shortstop Class
weitz41 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd be happy with any of them on a short term high AAV contract. That being said with 2-3 SS that may be ready soon between Lewis, Lee and even Martin it would seem like a waste of recourses to spend heavily on one of them. -
With this FO and there lack of signing SP's to contracts and how they've spent in the past on bats I went with an offensive approach. This wish list is with expecting Correa to optout and trading Kepler. Willson Contreras-5 yrs $116 mil. The FO is aggressive and does this early for a change..Do we have any catchers in the minors even 2-3 years away? Mitch Haniger-2 yr $25 mil. The FO waits this one out and get their patience signing..Injury concerns leave him looking for a job..That hasn't bothered this FO before. Maybe they can get him a little cheaper like 2 yr $20mil Marwin Gonzales-1 yr $1.25. Its a name we know. It doesn't have to be Marwin but a utility guy from outside the organization. Micheal Fulmer-3 yrs $16.5 mil. I know a reliever and multiyear contract..Hey it's my wish list. Rafael Montero- 2yrs $9.5 mil. Same as above. Emilio Pagan....Got to keep the FO in mind..They won't give up on him so just grin a bare it.. Austin Martin, SS/OF- No way!! I get it, but I believe our starting SS is already in the organization. C: Willson Contreras ($23.2M) 1B: Luis Arraez ($4.50M) 2B: Jorge Polanco ($7.50M) 3B: Gio Urshela ($9.00M) SS: Austin Martin, SS/OF ($0.70M) LF: Trevor Larnach ($0.70M) CF: Byron Buxton ($15.00M) RF: Mitch Haniger ($12.5M) DH: Jose Miranda ($0.70M) 4th OF: Alex Kirilloff ($0.70M) Utility: Nick Gordon ($0.70M) Utility: Marwin Gonzales ($1.25M) Backup C: Ryan Jeffers ($0.70M) SP1: Sonny Gray ($12.00M) SP2: Tyler Mahle ($8.00M) SP3: Kenta Maeda ($9.00M) SP4: Joe Ryan ($0.70M) SP5: Bailey Ober ($0.70M) RP: Jhoan Duran ($0.70M) RP: Jorge Lopez ($3.00M) RP: Griffin Jax ($0.70M) RP: Jorge Alcala ($1.00M) RP: Caleb Thielbar ($2.00M) RP: Micheal Fulmer ($5.5M) RP: Rafael Montero ($4.75M) RP: Emilio Pagan ($3.00M) Payroll is 8.43% under budget

Hard to argue with you. I agree bats seem like a bigger issue then pitching. I doubt there's enough $ to sign all players you mentioned. Contreras and Haniger I agree on. Especially if they trade Kepler. I think they'd leave LF open for one of Larnach, Kirilloff or Gordon to take. Switch-hitting Bell would be a nice 1b/DH upgrade. I think Bell and Contreras have played some LF the last couple seasons as well.

The Minnesota Twins' 2023 Payroll Preview
weitz41 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I guess I'd start with is ownership willing to match this years payroll? My guess it will go down a bit with lower attendance this season and so on. But if it stays the same I'd want them to go out and get Willson Contreras, Tommy Pham and a couple of quality relief pitchers..say Fulmer and Taylor Rogers. I'd like to add a frontline starter or Aaron Judge but outside of Correa type of contract I don't see either happening. I could also say the same for them signing quality relief pitchers. Give me one of the better catchers, a right handed hitting left fielder and a couple of quality BP arms to cover the excessive amount of innings our 5 innings and a cloud of dust pitching philosophy creates.. Add a starter if there's any payroll left. I want to believe Kenta Maeda will be a starter but I'm not convinced that will happen right away coming off TJ. -
A lot to do with the 40 man between now and opening day 2023. So many 60 day IL makes it a bit messier then normal. I'd like the Twins to protect Sisk, Headrick, Julien, Canterino and Severino. Plus add a FA RH outfielder, frontline starter and a couple quality BP arms..With 52 on the 40 man now there may be a few Akil Baddoo's that may get grabbed. So don't put your pitchforks and torches away just yet.

Guardians vs Padres...Padres in seven. Cleveland's drought continues even with a new name. Padres win their 1st ever. This would help me feel a little better about the Twins season and is probably the least likely outcome. Which again would remind me of the Twins season.

Review the Debuts: Twins Rookie Pitchers
weitz41 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
SWR gets my vote. I think he's got the highest ceiling of the starters. Duran if he ever goes back to being a starter. Not that a great BP arm isn't something to get excited about. 4-6 good to great innings trumps 1 outstanding inning. IMO- 31 replies

How Can Rocco Baldelli Regain Twins Fans Favor?
weitz41 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Until the FO and Rocco (they are a package deal) start using analytics as a guide instead of a one way street thru 9 innings of baseball. I don't see anyone changing their opinion of them. Just an example: 8 of the top 9 teams in innings pitched by starters are in the playoffs. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say those 8 teams use analytics as well.- 147 replies

weitz41 replied to Squirrel's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Congrats SWR! The person putting names on jerseys is working overtime on this one. ? -
Resign. Extend 1-3 years if you can. He holds down the stop until Lee is ready.

Passing the Blame Around for the 2022 Twins
weitz41 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If I'm looking for something to blame this season on it has to be #1. Their lack of or unwillingness to spend on SP and BP may have caused trades that didn't need to happen and could have cost multiple game in BP implosions. Injuries played their part but if we had invested in 1-2 SP and 1-2 BP arms would we have needed to trade for Paddack, Pagan, Mahle, Fulmer and Lopez? Hindsight in 20/20...- 39 replies

Great season by the Wind Surge. Just came up a couple wins short. Good to see Balazovic have a decent outing to close out his season. Shuffield has played well (.855 OPS) for a fill in. Not everything went well in the bigs but plenty of players to be excited about on the farm. Headricks, SWR, Julien, Lee, Varland, Laweryson, Sisk and even Martin. (after returning from IL) Those are just the ones I can think of in AA and AAA. Plus some of the guys we traded at mid season. We may not have a top 5 farm system but seems to me there's plenty of players on the cusp of contributing to the Twins when called on.

Same here. I'm starting to think this part of the Berrios trade may work out for the Twins. Just noticed that today is his bday. Happy birthday SWR

I agree with you on most of your points. I'm probably in the minority here but I'm much more optimistic about 2023 at this point then I was last year at the same time. If the FO could go into uncharted territory and sign a quality SP to a multi year deal, add a couple of good BP arms and the Twins have an average amount of injuries (the Twins have 18 on the IL. The rest of the division combined: 22...) I think 2023 will be better then the last couple season. Now I'm not saying they'll set a club record for wins...like the last series of the season will be important for the Twins..I'd call that a better season.

I can live with the risk reward outcomes on the Twins trades this season and that's because most aren't truly complete until the end of next season. In Paddacks case 2 more seasons. The Lopez trade is probably the one I like the least. That was a lot to give up for a guy with 4 months of success at his position. As for the prospect costs other then Povich and Hajjar what did we part with that we don't already have a lot of? How many 2nd basemen, 3rd basemen and utility players can we fit on our 40 man roster? Put one of them in the OF? Anyone remember Sano in the OF? The Rogers trade: If we gave up such great assets for such a terrible return. Why are none of those players still on the Padres roster? If next season is a dumpster fire we'll recoup some of our prospect losses Aug 1st. ***Patiently waits for my paycheck from the Twins PR department***
