  1. I’m not seeing the value in Gurriel with the Twins right now. Hopefully Kiriloff is finally healthy and can showcase his elite batting skills and start all season at first base.
  2. Thanks for the nostalgia. I was a teen during Mincher’s time with the Twins, and I fondly remember his stellar contributions. What great memories for this kid!
  3. Respectfully, you apparently never watched Sano flail away at bat after at bat for whatever part of the season he stayed healthy. He has shown zero ability to command the strike zone since his rookie year, when he looked like he could be a version of Miguel Cabrera. He swings at anything, and his disinterest in off season conditioning is legendary. You are correct that he couldn’t catch up to major league fastballs, which is the one pitch most swing and miss sluggers like Sano feast on. He had a few moments but ultimately was a massive disappointment in Minnesota. What a waste of talent! But I wish him well as he tries to resurrect his career.
  4. The problem is that Rocco manages by computer algorithm, which dictates that most starters will not face a lineup for a third time. So it’s five innings and turn the game over to the BP. Hopefully Pagan will not be part of it. But if you are Mahle, Maeda, or Gray why would you sign an extension here if the manager doesn’t trust you?
  5. I love Arraez but I thought the Twins would have to give up more than Arraez to make this deal because of his limited power, limited versatility and injury history. Getting a top five prospect and another young prospect from Miami made this deal even better. And they still haven’t traded Julien, Lee, and Lewis.
  6. No to Marco Raya or Festa. Maybe Headrick. Raya has some real potential upside as a high end starter that is in short supply for this team.
  7. Adell would be a good risk if the price is right. At least he has some defensive upside, unlike Sano. But some outfielders would have to be moved, so who would that be? Kepler for sure and maybe one other. I wouldn’t trade Larnach or Kiriloff for Adell, as they both have untapped potential.
  8. No way to the Gallen trade if it includes three top prospects. Lee and Rodriguez should be off limits in any trade and the FO already traded players of Festa’s upside last year to acquire injured starters Mahle and Paddock. But I would strongly consider the Woodruff or Cortes trade for those players, especially Cortes, since the Twins have a surplus of lefty hitting outfielders. Miranda would be difficult to include, but his field position isn’t clear yet.
  9. I agree that Rocco wasn’t given the best pitching staff to work with. But there were too many head scratching times where he took the starter outs when they had low pitch counts. It seems like this happened too much to Ryan and Gray, their two best starters. Use some intuition, Rocco, and put your computer algorithms away for awhile.
  10. Hopefully the FO realizes that Lewis and Lee are too important to trade, but last year’s trades for starters w injury concerns doesn’t make me optimistic. I think Martin has too much talent to give up on yet, but I could see him moved in a trade.
  11. Agree that Bauer isn’t worth it and would be a clubhouse cancer. Also his contract is not what the Twins would accept.
  12. The Twins problem is that they are not a contender unless they can keep their players healthy and a couple of young arms emerge as legitimate starters. As I have stated before, my fear is the FO will trade a potential impact minor leaguer, like Lee, Lewis, or SWR for a starter with two years of team control. It sounds like Kim is a solid player but I’m not sure a trade for him is necessary.
  13. There’s nothing there. Scott Boros leaking rumors to help his negotiations with the Mets, whose “money is no object owner” is all in on getting Correa. Just move on!
  14. Dumpster diving again! This FO needs to learn that it’s time to see what they can get from: injured starters coming back (Maeda, Paddock, Mahle) and a lot of arms trying to make the roster. The only way the team is competitive is for the young players to recover from injuries and play up to their talent, two young starters emerge, and for Buxton to finally be healthy, I’m still on edge over the potential for the FO to mistakenly trade potential impact players Lee, Lewis, or SWR for some short term patch on another oft injured number three starter.
  15. Click bait column that worked on me. There is no chance of Sale coming to the Twins because: he has a no trade clause; he won’t allow himself to be traded to a non contender like the Twins; the Twins will not take on his contract his $27 million unless the Red Sox eat half of it. Next story……
  16. I’m not in support of any trade that involves Lewis, Lee or SWR, all potential impact players. But I don’t trust the FO given their tack record from last year, trading prospects for starters with potential injury concerns.
  17. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Analytics has its place, but a manager should be able to rely on intuition, not just computer algorithms, to make decisions. Rocco seems to be unable to do that with the pitching staff. Five innings and they are gone most of the time. Also it appears that Rocco has planned days off for position players scheduled in advance, regardless of how that player is playing. So he sits a HOT HITTER right in the middle of scorching the ball. Why not ride that hitter for a couple more games. He even had Buxton AND Correa both out at the same time upon occasion. How does that make sense? After all it’s baseball, not football or hockey.
  18. It is time to move on from Correa and stop just being leverage against other teams for Scott Boros. Correa wants to play for a contender and that isn’t the Twins any time soon, given the inability of the FO to make progress. I will be shocked and amazed if Correa signs with the Twins!
  19. Disappointed about Enlow, as he was a top prospect derailed by TJ. I do understand why they would take a chance on Ortega, given that he has some experience in the big leagues, but I’m not too fond of a guy with lack of command. How many of those guys can you have in one bull pen, where every batter is a nail biter, which is what Pagan does.
  20. Polanco is not a failed shortstop. He’s just not a plus defender there, is better at second, but can fill in at shortstop for short periods if necessary. That’s not the same as he can’t play there because he is a failure. That said, he would be a solid trade chip if he is having a good season in 2023 and the team isn’t in the mix for the playoffs. With Julian and Arraez available and hopefully AK able to play first base, Polanco could be moved.
  21. I now live in fear of the FO making trades for modest short term success with soon to be free agent players at the expense of long term sustainable development. It’s time the FO admits that last year’s trades were unhelpful and plan for the future. Just don’t trade LEE, Lewis or SWR, as they have potential to be impact players that are always in short supply.
  22. I cannot see any viable plan for 2023 from the FO. Maybe as a replacement for Garlick McCutcheon works. But the Gallo signing was a head scratcher given all the young lefty hitting outfielders now on the roster. The FO seems to be chaotically reaching for life preservers right now.
  23. I thought Farmer was acquired for this role until Lewis or Lee are ready. I wouldn’t do this unless we just traded spare parts. They have to keep their best young minor leaguers since they likely won’t be in contention this year.
  24. My first thought on Wacha was OK. He was pretty good for a number of seasons and likely an upgrade from Bundy and Archer. I don’t seem his as a scrap heap acquisition like some others over the past few years. Still, we need to find out about Varland, SWR, Winder, Sands, Enlo, Canterino, Balazovic and others. It looks like another rebuild to me so why take innings from the young guys? I still am afraid the FO will make another trade mistake to acquire a number 3 or 4 starter and we lose good minor leaguers like Lewis or Lee.
  25. Since Rocco seems committed to using only his computer algorithm instead of his instincts and intuition, starters will only be occasionally allowed to pitch past five innings, and under very limited circumstances. So building a bull pen that can effectively handle four innings game after game is essential. Unless they have a lock down BP it is a fool’s errand to handle SP like that. No wonder high level free agent starting pitchers won’t come here. What competitive starter wants to go five innings and 160 innings a year under this manager? Only the injury prone.
