  1. I thought Larnach lost significant weight coming into last year, which seemed to help him defensively. With good health and his power potential he could be a 30 home run guy and RBI machine. L and K Boys 2022 (Larnach and Kiriloff)! Let’s find out what the young guys can do this year.
  2. The Twins are clearly in rebuilding mode. Let’s see if Martin, Julian, and others are ready to contribute instead of a mediocre to slightly above average player who bats right handed. The FO has lost enough minor league depth already, trading for injury prone pitchers. No more please!
  3. Dominic Smith is another left handed bat locked into first base, Kiriloff’s best position. Right now Arraez will also get some time there unless a trade is made. So that seems like a redundant move to me if Kiriloff is healthy. Nelson Cruz would take at bats from younger players so that makes no sense.
  4. Don’t let Rocco see Ryan’s stats: 32 starts, 173.2 innings pitched. That’s almost six innings per start for a whole season! Rocco’s computer algorithm doesn’t allow that! Five innings and the starter is done! And only four innings for Ober.
  5. I have lost confidence in the FO given the head scratching move of signing Gallo, a left handed hitting outfielder with more swing and miss than Kepler, resulting in a glut of lefty outfielders. Also trading promising minor leaguers for starters with injury concerns like Paddock and Mahle. I fear more bargain basement signings for starting pitchers in the future instead of finding out what their young starting can do. pitchers. What a dreadful FO! Fire Rocco too, since he is clueless on handling starting pitchers.
  6. The team sure appears to be rudderless under this FO. I cringe with the thought that they will try to make a splash by trading Lewis or Lee or SWR for two years of another above average starter to add to the stable of injured number three starters. It’s rebuilding time again!
  7. One thing does remain true is that paying Correa $35 million/ year for the last several years of his contract, while his skills diminish, would hamstring the Twins. So would that have been worth it for the first six or seven years of his contract?
  8. I was under the impression that Wallner has good speed and athleticism for a guy his size, and a strong arm from when he pitched in college.
  9. I think the FO will still make a deal of some sort with the free agents left over. Maybe Eovaldi? My fear is that they will make a trade using their best prospects like Lewis or Lee in search of a two year stop gap position player or starter, which was their MO last year. The team is in rebuilding mode and I’m not sure they know it or admit it.
  10. It’s hard to argue with how you constructed this roster. I think it is time for a tear down, which makes the trades during last season a big mistake. I’m not sure the FO understands this though. The FO was all in on trying to get to the playoffs last year and traded for starting pitchers who had injury concerns, which eventually occurred. That cost solid prospects and will make the rebuild take longer. The only thing that changes this trajectory is for young SP like Ryan, Ober, Varland or others to emerge as solid above average starters. It may be a make or break year for the FO. Hopefully they don’t panic and trade Lewis or Lee.
  11. With Farmer on the roster a Mateo trade only makes sense for depth and if it involves a low A prospect. His defense would help but his speed would not be fully utilized as Rocco won’t allow base stealing or hit and run. He thinks he still has the bomba squad. Dump Rocco!
  12. No to any deal that includes Lewis or Lee, both potential cornerstones. I fear this FO is going to make a panic trade to make it seem like they know what they are doing. This team is not positioned to make a playoff run, so let’s just admit that and go from there. It’s time to see which young players can make major strides and be a part of the future. If they can’t be a factor by the trade deadline then blow it up and start over. And dump Rocco, as he depends too much on managing by computer algorithms, has no apparent managing instincts, and has shown an inability to mange his starting pitchers.
  13. The Gallo signing makes no sense even if they trade Kepler. They have too many lefty hitting outfielders, including younger ones with more potential. Another head scratcher from the FO. I’m usually a Twins optimist. But add to this mess an incompetent Rocco’s handling of his starting pitching staff and this team is going nowhere in 2023.
  14. My concern is the FO will make a panic trade that includes Lewis or Lee, trading the future for some short term benefit for a team that won’t be in contention in 2023. That’s what they did with Mahle and Gray. The Gray trade was understandable, but Mahle had health issues and they knew that. Trading Arraez, as bad as that would be from the fan perspective, is somewhat understandable if it can bring a player of real value, not another number four starter or someone who is a free agent after 2023.
  15. I have lost confidence in the FO and Rocco. With the current group of starting pitchers this team isn't going to compete for anything except maybe a .500 season. The best we can hope for is that two of the young starters, like Ryan, Ober, Varland, or SWRichardson take a giant step forward. But I fear that Rocco’s apparent unwavering belief in four or five inning starters will frustrate Gray, Mahle, and others who will want out so they can pitch for a real ML manager, someone who has some instinct and intuition and doesn’t just manage by computer algorithms.
  16. Why sign another left handed hitting outfielder with so many on the roster already? Also I wonder if they made a run at JD Martinez, who signed w the Dodgers for $10 million. But he probably is looking for a World Series contender, which the FO has ensured the Twins aren’t.
  17. DeLeon might have a chance, as he was a highly touted prospect at one time. Otherwise it’s just roster filler for the minor league teams.
  18. Just hoping the FO doesn’t trade any more young talent, especially Lee, Lewis, or Julian, in an effort to win 5 or 6 more games.
  19. Agree on passing on a power bat with a lot of swing and miss. We don’t need another Aaron Sabato positionless player who strikes out 40% of the time and bats .200. .
  20. Speed is great but without power that’s a pass at number five. I’m hoping for a college power arm that can move up quickly and has a high ceiling.
  21. Agree to stop signing reclamation project pitchers and see which young pitchers emerge from the competition. Varland got some experience already so let’s see what he can do as a number five starter.
  22. Lewis, Lee, and SWR should all be untouchable. They have the greatest potential to be impact players, which are essential to making a long playoff run. The only reason to even consider a trade of any of the three is to acquire an actual ace with team control, and even then I cringe at the thought.
  23. Great news! Let’s hope the pick has as much potential as the Lee pick did in 2022. Maybe a fast moving college starting pitcher similar to Kumar Rocker.
  24. Arraez’ trade value is an all time high right now. But because of his limited skill set I don’t think he brings a frontline starter unless another significant player is included. I shudder to think that would include Lewis or Lee. The question to ask is whether the team can backfill Arraez’ spot in the lineup, and the answer defensively is yes since he has no primary position. His one tool is as an on base machine, a very underrated concept in MLB. That said, with Polanco set and 2b Julien raking at every minor league level and now in the 40 man roster, Arraez could be a trade candidate despite the fan backlash. But don’t trade him and other pieces for another number 3 or 4 starter. We have enough of those. Maybe a better option is to trade Polanco, who has a team friendly contract and is still a good player despite a down year.
