  1. Maybe. But my opinion is that he’s a horrifically erratic hitter and always has been. He’s a low OBP guy who strikes out a lot (both K% and OBP actually currently BETTER than last year)…and the offensive value is completely tied to HR’s and XBH. And those rates have been otherworldly, unsustainably high probably, the last couple years. But this year those rates have normalized pretty much right from the beginning. He’s sitting at a career 770 OPS right now, and 740 this year.
  2. I’ve questioned his very existence from the moment he signed. Kinda still do. But who knew his 777 OPS (well above career average btw) would make him look like Rogers Hornsby in this lineup.
  3. Buxton wasn’t hitting BEFORE he took that pitch to the ribs. Maybe a short rehab assignment?? Gallo got one during the same time frame. No. Instead, let’s bat him cleanup and leadoff first two games back. I expect Buxton will eventually have a hot streak or two yet. But head-scratching strategy with him coming back.
  4. Yeah, drafted in the 8th round out of college just like Dozier was. I want to compare him to Dozier, but even Dozier was in the show by age 26. The relative disadvantage for Williams is that the threshold for the bat is higher for a 1B,DH, and ‘emergency’ catcher. He’s really always hit, but it doesn’t seem that the twins or scouts/analysts really ever considered him a mlb catching prospect.
  5. Well, if Kepler in the lineup every day spites Gleeman… then every cloud really does have a silver lining.
  6. Love it with all leagues in full swing! Although, the Jordan Balazovic comeback train has jumped the tracks. Results for 6 of the last 7 outings now have been anywhere from not good to really bad.
  7. If that’s an Elephant taking a dump, then I resemble that remark.
  8. Problem was probably not the right word. I do think he has an uphill battle. Even with the Twins, 1B and DH figure to be fairly high offensive hurdles to clear…and apparently, they don’t love him at 3rd. He’s gotta mash. Play him every day in AAA, and see what happens.
  9. Honestly, I jumped the gun…just read the title 🙄. But a cool concept…I’m just too lazy to go back and introduce the math.
  10. I know…I’m not playing the game. But… LHSP - Santana RHSP - Blyleven RP - Nathan C - Mauer 1B - Morneau (I’d put Killebrew here if I had to, but I don’t have to) 2B - Carew 3B - Killebrew (played almost 800 games here…when in prime) SS - Versailles (I expect this to be Correa in the future) LF - Allison (apology to Larry Hisle) CF - Puckett RF - Oliva DH - Cruz or Molitor (I could go either way) Honestly, that’ll stack up quite well against most franchises.
  11. I approve of the recent Duran usage. (I post this under the supposition that Rocco reads comments of each TD game recap looking for affirmation and ideas. Who wouldn’t?)
  12. Thanks for the work, team. I also would have Balazovic outside the top 20. As of June, he's starting to leak oil fairly significantly. Likewise, I'd have De Andrade inside the top 20, as do you. What are the early reports on De Andrade's defense at short?
  13. Love the list. Some would consider Mack a poor fielder. He was a bit of an enigma defensively. The range was plus, the glove was average…but the arm was epically bad. Anyone and everyone ran on it. The throwing shoulder was toast before he got to the Twins. And it eventually abbreviated his career.
  14. Yeah, I don’t think you can go just with counting stats. Also, fwiw, I think Kepler has benefited from some of the flaws WAR has on the defensive calculations…specifically as it relates to inflated range factors in years where he played significant games in CF. Tom Brunansky was better as a Twin…both in terms of performance (though not by that much)…and in terms of accomplishment…with an epic ALCS and a WS championship.
  15. White Sox are legitimately good if/when healthy. And the LaRussa fiasco is in the rear view mirror.
  16. First time caller, long-time listener… I just wanted to say that even though it’s taken ten years, this Stewart guy is finally starting to show that he was worth that high first-round pick! I’ll hang up and listen.
  17. “Tip your cap to the Jugs A0400, it had us guessing all day,” said Baldelli. That’s good stuff.
  18. Win today, takes your chances tomorrow (and the day after). I don’t think they are purposely stretching him beyond a 4-6 out type of thing. He was pretty inefficient in this game, though. To me, 6 outs should always be in play with Duran. Having said that, I don’t think 38-pitch appearances are sustainable. I think that’s definitely undesirable, but I wouldn’t abandon the willingness to attempt the strategy in games like this.,,for it to work he has to be more efficient than he was in this game, though, IMO.
  19. I’d go with gritty or strong pitching, not dominant…but either way, nice win. On a hunch, I looked up how many of Taylor’s starts had him batting 3rd, 4th, or 5th….in 713 starts… 0 batting 3rd 2 batting 4th 31 batting 5th (Last two kinda surprising…but, KC Royals)
  20. I like me some Danny De Andrade. 730 OPS in that league is not bad at all. He’s 19, and he’s a short stop. Any reports on his defense at short?
  21. Strike outs are A problem, not THEE problem. The best offenses in baseball K about 4 times less than the Twins for every 100 PA. That’s barely more than one K less per game. Today the Twins K’d only 7 times…yet, collective BA was under 200. The Cleveland Guardians K less than anyone (2nd lowest K rate)…and their offense has been beyond atrocious. It’s the way the game is played now, like it or not. Some team is breaking the record…or almost breaking it…every year. Not that it wouldn’t help to K less. It would. But, that’s only one of the issues this lineup has. Below average BABiP team overall as well; XBH% barely league average, despite the small denominator; RISP struggles; lack of running game… If the team was counting on building a batting order around Correa, Buxton, Kepler, Polanco, then the offense figured to be ‘not great’. Buxton is not a great hitter…in fact, has never even been a good hitter over a stretch of more than 100 games. Correa has been a great player, but only a ‘good’ hitter. Kepler was sinking fast headed into the season. And Polanco is ‘pretty good’ and often injured. That’s not a heart-of-the-batting order that’s striking much fear in opponents. With the so-called depth, I called this lineup high floor, low ceiling coming out of spring training. Certainly have tested the floor. Gotta hope Kirilloff and Lewis are real…maybe one of Wallner/Julien…and go from there.
  22. To be a buyer, you should be ‘close’ or at least a serious team. This team can’t keep it’s head above water even while playing a soft ALC schedule. As of June 8, I’m a seller, if anything.
  23. He’s got more CF starts than any other Twin has games played regardless of position. The starter has zero. Batting a little better than his career norm…so, there’s that. It could have been worse. I’m just waiting for Rocco to DH him. You KNOW it’s coming. If you can DH a 35-year old Donovan Solano (5 times so far), you can DH Michael Taylor
  24. There are other places to post about the players you don’t like or that you think are hurting the club. That way, you can be taken seriously rather than randomly complaining in a game recap where said player played well, where you won’t.
