  1. If he gets 500 at bats, you can expect 45 home runs and 200 strikeouts with about a .260 average. Glad to see that he does better with men on base. I didn't know that. If I were the manager and he was in a 3 game slump I would have him bunt in one situation and hit to right field in another in one game. If he could learn to hit to right field just a bit, he could become a monster. However, he is a big sucker for a 2 strike breaking ball that moves away from him so we'll continue to see big strikeout totals- which I don't mind when nobody is on base in a 1-sided game.
  2. I would have preferred Schoop at second. So now I would prefer Arraez but I don't know how good a fielder eaither one is. So let it play out but I think moving Arraez around could hurt his offense so I'd rather he stay in one position.
  3. I don't worry too much about early Spring games. It really doesn't count until the final week. I get to watch the Twins today as MLB will carry the game though the weather is iffy. I really want the Angels to get Odorizzi but I guess they aren't interested. I picked them and the Phillies as my surprise teams this year but both still need pitching.
  4. I'm comfortable with our catching corps though I can agree with the concerns over both. We may need to add a veteran (and probably should to our AAA team now) if either of them falter or get hurt. I can see Garver hitting .260 with 22 homers and Jeffers hitting .250 with 12 homers. Hopefully they stay healthy cause their defense and framing skills are very good.
  5. I hate the mph off the bat. So what? I'd take a 60 mph single over a 110 mph out anytime. It's stats like that that are ruining baseball (IMHO). While it's fun to get to watch your teams in early spring training, the real meaning of games comes in the last week before the season starts. GO TWINS
  6. Statistics, statistics. Oh how I hate statistics- especially when this old timer doesn't understand them. Actually, at one time when I realized I wasn't going to be a pro ballplayer and didn't wish to go through the long tenure of minor leagues to try to become an announcer, I wanted to go into sports statistics because I was great in math. Anyway, relievers can change dramatically from year to year so I'm not sure I can buy into this article. A manager has to manage his bullpen so pitchers aren't worn out by August- especially the way the game is played today. However, I will never like it when a reliever comes in and has a 1-2-3 inning while throwing 15 pitches and then isn't allowed to throw a second inning. It makes no sense to me- especially when the next pitcher gets hit hard.
  7. The Twins need Cave as a backup to Buxton who always misses games due to injury. Rooker's advantage over both Laurich and Kiriloff is that he bats righty and, with Donaldson likely to also miss some games, maybe keep Rooker and send out Laurich. Or trade Laurich and get something decent. However, I think the best thing would be to send down Laurich so he can hit every day and start Kiriloff in left. Arraez can fill in almost everywhere. And why would they keep Austudillo?
  8. Sounds like they need an icebreakers session with all pitchers and catchers where they wear names of famous people on their backs and each person has to guess who he is by answering questions posed to them about the other or having comments made to them about themselves. It works at all parties and seminars that I have been to so it should work for them. I would think it's even more important to catch the person in game situations to learn their tendencies, pitch movement, etc.
  9. Hard to believe that nobody has signed Odo. He must be pricing himself too high. Maybe someone will grab him this weekend- like the Braves or Nationals.
  10. If Donaldson is healthy, he is the best. Ramirez and Mercado are very good but not as good as John. Dozier is an up and coming star. Detroit is, well, Detroit. However, they will be reckoned with after this year as they have the best pitching prospects.
  11. I see Duran and Ober in the Twins future. We'll see about Balazovic.
  12. My favorite all time Twin
  13. Well they won't be coming to NC but maybe in the future. I'll have to follow them through league news and the milb site. I'm sure there will be a shuttle service between the Saints and the Twins as COVID is sure to affect both teams at some point.
  14. I'm looking for a higher average from Buxton and about 30 steals. I don't think he'll hit that many home runs and hope he can play 130-35 games. I'm worried about Pineda. He was great last September but he has never had that good a streak. I would be surprised if Sano hits higher than .250 but he could hit 45 home runs if he doesn't get benched. My bigger X-factors would be Garver, Rogers and Cruz as of right now. Garver and Rogers have to bounce back and Cruz has to keep chugging.
  15. We can guess all we want but, until we see the ball in games, we won't know. Sure Garver can't be expected to hit 30 homers and Polanco isn't more than a 15 homer guy in a normal season. You really can't compare anything to 2019 which was an anomaly for the team. Looks like Paxton is back with Seattle, the Yanks signed Jay Bruce- smart move, Arrieta to the Cubs (who knows if he can bounce back) and Matt Harvey gets another shot (why not). I think Hill has also been signed. Nothing on Odo or Homer Bailey. More to come this week.
  16. I haven't seen the minor league setup but am now hoping that St Paul will get to play in Durham so I can see some future Twins. I'm not sure what the Twins are doing by signing players like Garlick. He doesn't seem to be of major league caliber and should not have taken a player's spot in the first place. As for Hamilton, he has stuff but hasn't had success with it. Maybe he'll get through though teams have wanted him in the recent past. Bird made a splash at first then faded fast. Maybe he can find his swing again. Meloncin is a great signing for the Pods but they still may not have enough to catch LA.
  17. I'm a bit concerned about privacy as they ask a lot during registration but hope to give it a try.
  18. I'm surprised that noone signed Kintzler before. He doesn't strike out everyone but he is a proven reliever with save experience. A good signing by the Phils. KC and the Angels are my surprise picks in the AL to move up and contend. The Royals need for their young, talented staff to come through. Not signing Odo would be a mistake if the Twins pass on him. At least see if he'll take a deal with incentives. If healthy, he will win. I hope we sign him but, if not, at least get another starter if Hill hasn't signed yet. I'd love Paxton but he's out of our price range.
  19. Dobnack should be the 5th starter but let's see what Ober can do. I'm not high on Robles but hope he can revert back to pre-2020. I think we are ok with Colombe and Rogers sharing closing duties switching between the 8th and 9th innings depending on who comes up. Hopefully we will have several one-sided games to give these guys a break. I like Thielbar but think 2020 was a (good) fluke for him. Now let's get spring training started (or at least scheduled right).
  20. I'd trade Polanco and Lewis and maybe one other prospect for Gonsolin and Lux in a heartbeat. I wouldn't touch Price who has a bad history in the post-season and costs way too much. The Dodgers are no longer high on May but his lack of strikeouts with his stuff has to be a concern. Throw him in and we'll throw in another prospect (but not Kiriloff or Laurich).
  21. Price will likely be traded- maybe to the Yankees. Bauer is one guy I never cared for at all. He is a good pitcher who had a great year last season and has capitalized. However, I don't think he'll be nearly as good this year. Plus he seems to be a head case with his own beliefs and may run into difficulties with teammates and/or management. However, the Dodgers are definitely favorites to win it all.
  22. Wade wasn't going anywhere with the Twins but Anderson does nothing for me. The White Sox are a better team right now but, if we add Paxton or Odo, we are right with them.
  23. Don't know much about Tortuga, whom everyone doesn't like, but this guy seems to have some potential for a minor helper. Not enough big league innings to say if he'd be any good but he's still young.
  24. So now the Twins have lost Rosario and Schoop among others in the past 2 years. Both are serviceable players who have not yet been adequately replaced. We'll see about Kiriloff who I think will do well. Foltnywitz would be a gamble but was good in 2018. An Arenado trade would have been great but the front office won't give up Lewis and Sano for him. Hopefully Eddie won't come back to haunt us.
  25. You do not trade someone who has hit .300 at every level - period. Would the Twins have ever traded Tony Oliva? Just the thought of trading Arraez is stupid at this point.
