Bobby Nightengale just reported the Twins gave Jeffers the QO.

In the same post, he noted that Eric Orze was claimed by the Cubs and Jack Anderson was claimed by the Mets. The Mets also claimed former Twin Pierson Ohl from the Rockies. Derek Falvey is having a say in what arms the Mets are claiming.

Good for the Twins to offer Jeffers the QO. It wouldn't have looked like they would meaningfully invest in the team, like Tom Pohlad has said, if they were to not offer him the QO.

Well, I was wrong. I didn't think the Twins wanted to take a chance on paying a half time position player for $23M. The Twins made an interesting choice but they certainly have information and we do not.

I think they feel pretty safe that he is set to get a long term deal elsewhere.

I also think this is a good sign that they are actually going to add real payroll before next season.

Both good things.

Love it. I really don't see the downside here. Most likely, he will decline it and score the Twins a high draft pick. If he does accept it then they have their catcher problem solved just like that. Ideally I would love for him to accept it because I think it provides a good bridge for hopefully Vahn Lackey stepping forward in 2028, but I doubt that will happen. The last time the Twins extend a qualifying offer to a player was in 2023 to Sonny Gray. Gray declined it and the Twins got the 33rd pick in the draft and used it to draft Kyle DeBarge who is currently at AA.

DeBarge is certainly hitting great in the Arizona fall league too. Maybe there is hope for him still.

So the Athletic is reporting these players got the QO...

Jeffers, Seiya Suzuki, Randy Arozarena, Jake Bauers, Brandon Lowe, David Bednar, Trevor Rogers and Adrian Morejon.

The players that were possibly also going to get a QO that didn't are Jazz Chisholm and Ian Happ.

I'm surprised the Yankees gave that offer to Bednar. And good for the Brewers to tag Bauers.

I guess it's time to update the ol' blueprint.

He should immediately jump to the top of the list for the Twins.

I'd be ok with that. Young and athletic and coming off a down year. Have to think playing in a smaller market than New York wouldn't hurt him either.
