Hawkeye Bean Counter Verified Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Arraez was traded to Philly for Marquez - who will likely be in the top 100 by the end of the year. He has dominated A and high A as a 20 year old.  This is why I think we should trade Jeffers. Jeffers has more value than Arraez, and can guarantee a top 100 player or help for the team rather an end of the 1st draft pick which is a 50/50 proposition.  Dave Borton 1

Platoon bats don't move the needle. Especially short side ones. He might play 25 percent of the games, so like 15-20. So, yes, to me? I don't like it at all. Rigby, Danchat, Hawkeye Bean Counter and 1 other 4

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 The beauty of Call is he's under control for years, and a below average hitter overall, so he can block other guys for years ! He's also 31, so likely approaching decline years. Hawkeye Bean Counter, Road trip, Danchat and 1 other 3 1

Then they can get him off the waiver wire when the Dodgers release him tomorrow. A 32-year-old platoon player shouldn't be on the roster at all when there is higher caliber talent that is already over due for a promotion. And a guy with 1 HR on the season isn't "mashing" anything. clone52, Linus and Mike Sixel 3

If you can get him off waivers, great. Do we have a right handed OF waiting in the wings to be a bench guy? Maybe we do that I missed. .900 OPS against lefties this year. .768 for his career. Trot Keaschall, Buxton, Jenkins out there everyday as starters and having Call off the bench wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Hawkeye Bean Counter and Mike Sixel 1 1
Jim H Verified Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 The problem against left-handed pitching comes from Buxton and Jeffers being out so much in June and July plus the 3 switch hitters being bad against left handers. Adding a lefty masher doesn't really fix anything if you are going to continue to play Bell and Caratini against lefthanders and bat them in the middle of the lineup. Martin and Keashall are actually pretty good against lefthanders, so adding another right handed hitter makes little sense to me, when the only place he can play is corner outfield. If you are batting Buxton and Jeffers at the top of the order, a large problem for the Twins all year has been the mushy middle of the lineup. It was masked in June when Clemens, Caratini and Bell all got hot together. But really the only hitter who has resembled a middle of the order hitter this year is Clemens and he has been pretty streaky. I really agree with many, in that I would like to see at one of supposed premium prospects promoted and installed in the middle of the lineup. I want to see whoever is promoted playing pretty much everyday against both lefthanders and right handers.  Unless Buxton gets healthy and Jeffers is still here, most of what the Twins, might do, and have already done at the deadline won't matter much. The defense is still shaky, the bullpen will not become dominant, all the injured starters won't be coming back this year to save the Twins. The best thing about the Twins this year is they play hard and are generally fun to watch. I hope they make the playoffs but the front office should be most concerned about building a better team without so many holes and limitations. Linus 1
