First-time poster. This thread made me want to sign up and give my two cents.

I’m also a new baseball fan. 

Prior to this season, I’d only ever watched one full baseball game in my life. I’ve had such a fun time cheering on the Twins, having watched nearly every game so far (except for a couple network exclusives), that I regret waiting this long to get into the sport!

I’ve also lurked various Twins communities, including TwinsDaily. I was reading this site in the preseason when many folks were warning this would be an embarrassing year, a guaranteed 100-loss year, a sell-off year, a bottom-of-the-league year, etc.

I think it’s clear that those things are no longer the case. Yet, a bit amusingly, I see many of the same names still speaking so confidently of the future of this season!

Maybe it’s because I’m a newbie to the sport and haven’t gotten too jaded yet, and apparently I missed a lot of drama from last season, but this article captured many of the thoughts I’ve had this year so far about the fandom.

I’m surprised every day by the self-flagellation of Twins fans. Those who despise the decisions of the front office of last year now essentially asking for a return to that status quo: let’s sell our best players again! (And we promise we won’t complain about it next year…)

Those who watch a win streak and act like it’s an unfortunate anomaly. After all, they have a 100-loss prediction to maintain!

Those who watch players climb out of a slump and use the opportunity to remind everyone of the slump!

From my outside view, it hasn’t come across like merely having lost hope in your team. It’s come across like you’re actively looking for ways to preserve your lost hope even when the team is trying to give you some.

I was happy to hear from management that they are looking to get some good pickups this coming deadline and, thankfully, still “go for it!”

What else could I possibly want from them? I’m not watching the 2027 or 2028 Twins right now. I’m watching the 2026 Twins.

And I'd argue you can't with you "sum of ALL of it's pieces" on one hand and "can't lose any of their hitters" on the other. They're returning to the mean with RISP since the break. I hope they get back to putting up crazy numbers in those situations, but I'm not going to bet on it.

Some of us are old enough to remember a certain squad in the late 80s that won 85 games in a league that "struggled" and managed a pretty decent run in October.  And that team was below league average in runs scored, not leading the league like this one.  If ya got a shot, no matter how said shot comes to be, ya take it.  You miss all of the shots you don't take.

Oakland/Sacramento/Las Vegas handed them half a dozen runs the other day. They blew up in Cleveland for a day. Beyond that, the offense has been what the vast majority of people expected coming into this year since the break. 

I hope they win. I hope they make me (us) look stupid come October. I'll eat crow all day long. Already glad to eat crow on Kody Clemens. I know certain people hate "analytics" and the predictive stats and all that. But they're crashing back to earth hard on offense. The Titanic has hit the ice berg and we're going down. Ryan Kreidler, shockingly, was not actually an everyday bat. Welcome to the return to the mean.

One thing I find odd is that you don't even have to get into advanced analytics to see the problems.  Like...rudimentary, old-school markers are screaming red flags.  Bad run diff.  Third place in their division.  Never above .500.  Top player is hurt and second best player might have a dead arm.  Eye test says these guys continue to play defense like they're allergic to leather.

Hopefully if they invest they do so wisely with payoffs.  I'm not holding my breath.
